There are a couple of discussions going on at Talk:Lincoln that members of this project may be interested in. There is one proposal to remove all project banners except for WikiProject Disambiguation. The page currently also hosts banners for WikiProjects Lincolnshire and Biography. Since Lincoln, Nebraska is just as important to Nebraska as the original Lincoln is to Linconlnshire, I thought that if the other two banners are kept, you might want your there, too.
Secondly, there is a proposal to move Lincoln to Lincoln (disambiguation) and redirect Lincoln to Abraham Lincoln, as his page gets the most hits. This again, may be of interest to members here.

WP 1.0 bot announcement
This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:41, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Requested photographs
I am slowly chipping away at the list of requested photos in Nebraska, but at this writing there are still 967 to go.
Is there a shorter list of higher-priority photo requests? Right now, I'm concentrating on National Register of Historic Places sites in the northeast and central portions of the state; otherwise, I'm taking pictures to illustrate towns through which I happen to pass when the light's good. However, if someone's working on a particular article and badly wants illustrations for it, I'd be willing to make an extra effort to photograph it.

- That approach seems like the right one to me. I was doing the same thing in Philadelphia, but not in the wintertime. --DThomsen8 (talk) 17:43, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
- Ammodramus, are you still on your picture-taking project? I haven't noticed your request until now, and I definitely have some specific requests for you - I made at least 1/2 of the ones on the list you're looking at, and have some I would LOVE to see. • Freechild'sup? 22:18, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
- Still here, and still taking Nebraska photos. I just finished a week-long swing through the Panhandle, which has left me with a ridiculous number of megabytes to edit and upload—but if you've got a request, would be glad to move it to the front of the queue.
- The likely bad news for you is that I don't get to Omaha very often, and I suspect that Omaha is where you'd like pictures taken. However, I get there from time to time, and would be happy to get some pictures for you when I'm in that part of the world. Assuming, of course, that you don't want a detailed photographic survey of the neighborhood of 30th and Ames after dark...
- I appreciate whatever you can do Ammodramus. I have written a number of articles about the rest of the state, too. Here's some of what I'd especially love to see:
- DeWitty, Nebraska
- Ponca Fort
- Camp Atlanta
- Moses Merill Mission
- Naomi Institute
- Rock Bluff, Nebraska
- Historic houses in Nebraska
- Lee G. Simmons Conservation Park and Wildlife Safari
Thanks for asking! And let me know if you'd like a top 10 list for Omaha! • Freechild'sup? 08:47, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- By all means, include a wish-list for Omaha. I don't know when I'll next be there, but it may be on short notice, and it'd be a good thing if I had a list ready. Of course, several of the Historic houses in Nebraska are in Omaha.
- Can you supply directions or lat-long coordinates for DeWitty, Nebraska, and can you suggest what I might find there? I don't know if there'll be buildings left, but it sounds like the cemetery might be available to photograph—assuming, of course, that it's not out of reach on private land.
- Will try to hit Camp Atlanta in the near future: that's close to Kearney. As I recall, there's a single very large red-brick chimney standing in a field northeast of Atlanta, which I assume remains from the camp.

Election Results
why are presidential election results deleted from Nebraskan counties by "Until It Sleeps" when added? They were properly sourced (http://www.uselectionatlas.org/) and formatted and the topic is found in articles for most other U.S. counties. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.13.30.115 (talk) 00:41, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

Nebraska articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release
Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.
We would like to ask you to review the Nebraska articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.
We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Invitation to help with WikiProject United States

A consideration for cross project consolidation of talk page templates

US Collaboration reactivated & Portal:United States starting next
Casliber recently posted a suggestion on the talk page for WikiProject United States about getting the US Wikipedians Collaboration page going again in an effort to build up articles for GA through FA class. See Wikipedia:U.S. Wikipedians' notice board/USCOTM. After several days of work from him the page is up and ready for action. A few candidates have already been added for you to vote on or you can submit one using the directions provided. If you are looking for inspiration here is a link to the most commonly viewed articles currently under the scope of Wikiproject United States. There are tons of good articles in the various US related projects as well so feel free to submit any article relating to US topics (not just those under the scope of WPUS). This noticeboard is intended for ‘’’All’’’ editors working on US subjects, not just those under WPUS.
The next item I intend to start updating is Portal:United States if anyone is interested in helping. Again this is not specific to WPUS and any help would be greatly appreciated to maximize visibility of US topics. The foundation has already been established its just a matter of updating the content with some new images, biographies and articles. Please let leave a comment on the Portals talk page or let me know if you have any questions or ideas. --Kumioko (talk) 19:17, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Jim Suttle (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Hi, can you local editors keep an eye on this BLP, to me eye it seems to be getting a lot of partisan content additions and to a single local source and some youtube and some stuff about snow - there clearly a campaign by the opposition - whoever they are to recall him but weather its all official or the wiki is being used as a partisan attack tool I have little idea, IP revert war broke out today so hence the request for local feedback, thanks. Off2riorob (talk) 00:57, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- I've removed a couple of comments from this talk page by IP editors editorializing about Suttle's performance as a mayor, per WP:TALK: in particular, per "Talk pages are for discussing the article, not for general conversation about the article's subject (much less other subjects). Keep discussions focused on how to improve the article. Irrelevant discussions are subject to removal." Ammodramus (talk) 02:32, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
Then all of this should be removed, Off2riorob requested local opinions and they were given. --174.71.78.253 (talk) 03:20, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Adding "Popular pages" to U.S.-related projects
A very interesting tool of the Wikimedia Toolserver is called WikiProject Popular pages lists. These lists are similar to project-related article lists like U. S. article lists used for generating assessment statistics. The Popular pages lists include the rank, total views, average daily views, quality and importance ratings for the listed articles. Here is the full list of projects using popular pages lists. An FAQ also is available at User:Mr.Z-man/Popular pages FAQ.
I recently added links to lists of popular pages as shown below to the U.S. Portal - WikiProjects box and the nominations sections for each of the selected articles boxes.
Portal:United States/Projects/Popular pages
Because this project was not included, I am bringing up the popular pages tool here. This tool makes it very easy to track three of four balancing dimensions when selecting articles for showcasing at a portal - quality, importance and popularity. When tracking the fourth dimension, topic, the related article lists tool (such as for U.S. article lists tool) also might be useful by filtering on categories of interest.
If you do decide to use this tool, feel free to update Portal:United States/Projects/Popular pages as well.

Suggestion to pull this project under WikiProject United States
Someone recently suggested that this project be included in the list of projects supported by WikiProject United States. After reviewing the project it appears that there have been some recent active discussion on the talk page and some updates to the main project page. The project has been added to the list of supported projects but before I fully implement this I want to ensure that the members of the project concur with this action. I will contact each of the active members of the project and ask them to comment as well. Please feel free to contact me if there are any comments or questions. --Kumioko (talk) 02:17, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I'm afraid that this action is due. It would ultimately benefit the success of the Nebraska wikiproject, and so I support the move. Thanks for nominating it. • Freechildtalk 18:31, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Courthouse Photos
I propose that photos of all Nebraska county courthouses be added to their respective article, and possibly the corresponding county seat article. This would serve to beautify the article and serve as a visual representation of the county. Help is needed adding them to their respective county pages by adding the following to the County Infobox template
|ex image = courthouse image filename.jpg
|ex image cap = xxx County Courthouse in xxxx, Nebraska
The following counties do not have courthouse photos. Contributors may want to cross them off once a photo is taken and uploaded. -- Ichabod (talk) 01:38, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
- I am working on this, despite (POV) my deep skepticism that photos of 1970s courthouses would beautify anything.
- With the addition of a courthouse photo to Dundy County, Nebraska, we've now got photos of all courthouses at their county articles. However, some of the photos need to be replaced with better ones. Ammodramus (talk) 18:24, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

WikiWomen's History Month
Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:Nebraska will have interest in putting on events (on and off wiki) related to women's roles in Nebraska's history, society and culture. We've created an event page on English Wikipedia (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to seeing events take place! SarahStierch (talk) 00:27, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

I've nominated People from Bassett, Nebraska and People from Newport, Nebraska to be upmerged into People from Rock County, Nebraska. These are the only populated places in Rock County and both categories have just one person it it. People from Rock County is totally empty except for the links to the subcategory pages. The basis for my nominating them is WP:SMALLCAT. I invite you to come to Categories for discussion/Log/2012 June 9 and put in your two bits whether you agree or disagree with my recommendation to upmerge these categories....William 23:10, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

development of NRHP-listed place articles in NE
Hey, are there any Nebraska editors here? I am interested in developing articles indexed by National Register of Historic Places listings in Nebraska. It happens that the NRHP nomination documents for most NE properties are now available on-line, and these are good sources for good starter articles.
How about Madison County NRHPs, just picking one randomly, to start? Anyone willing to help develop these? I'll try to watch here, but contact me at my Talk page if I don't reply. --doncram 05:09, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
- I did one or two NRHPs in that county, and lately I've been developing articles for several northern, western NE counties including National Register of Historic Places listings in Cherry County, Nebraska and others nearby. Is there anyone following this Talk page? --doncram 02:35, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
Discussion to remove the Automatically assessed logic from the WikiProject United States template
Greetings, there is a discussion regarding removal of the logic used to populate Automatically assessed article categories from Template:WikiProject United States. Most of the categories (over 220 Wikipedia wide) were deleted in February 2013 because they were empty. These categories were previously populated by a bot that hasn't run since 2011 and the categories aren't used. Removal of this uneeded/unused logic will greatly reduce the size and complexity of the WikiProject United States template. Any comments or questions are encouraged here. Kumioko (talk) 18:44, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- Lest there is any confusion for people who don't speak the same language, the words "logic used to populate Automatically assessed article categories" refer to the feature that was supposed to allow this WikiProject's template to "inherit" class and importance ratings from other WikiProjects. Kumioko says that there are no longer any bots performing the function that formerly copied those ratings. --Orlady (talk) 23:20, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Suggestion
Hello all! I was curious if anyone else thought it might be a good idea to make a (nonbinding) guideline on how all the individual US state WikiProjects should organize themselves, to help standardize them. I originally put this suggestion in the WikiProject United States talk page, so feel free to look there if you're interested. It's pretty empty though; basically all they said was to see what each of the individual projects thought about it. Please tell me if you have any concerns with this idea; hopefully we can find a way for everyone to love it! Also, I'm new at making proposals, so please forgive me if I do anything silly. :) Hope that you like this idea! JonathanHopeThisIsUnique (talk) 04:56, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

Animated Flag
I would suggest changing the animated flag, currently implemented by
- <span style="position:absolute;top:-50px;left:-172px;z-index:-1">[[Image:Animated-Flag-Nebraska.gif|180px]]</span>
to a standard image inclusion at the top of the article. Right now it runs into the sidebar and makes both the flag and the navigation look ugly and unprofessional. And I'm sure it would look worse with certain of the non-default skins. I would have cited the MoS and been bold, but I'm not sure that that applies to WikiProjects. Instead, let me just say that there are good reasons not to use page-scoped absolute positioning on MediaWiki. 98.23.128.19 (talk) 20:10, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
- I see what you are saying, I have no objections to making this minor change. Cheers Gmcbjames (talk) 23:16, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
- I would favor the complete elimination of the animated flag, which I find noisy and distracting. Ammodramus (talk) 22:52, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
- Removed animated flag on main page - cheers Gmcbjames (talk) 21:30, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
Upcoming Edit-a-thon
Hi Nebraska folks. For everyone in the Omaha-Lincoln area, I wanted to let you know that UNL will be hosting an Edit-a-thon in March. The event will be a part of the campus Women's Week, and aimed at recruiting more women as contributors. I'll post more information as the details get worked out, but we welcome you to join us. We would also be happy to get ideas and sources for topics relating to improving coverage of women's history in Nebraska, in addition to start and stubs already covered by the project. Daclausen (talk) 18:01, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
- Daclausen, what a great event, there are many stubs and articles which can be expanded especially in the area of women's history in Nebraska. You have my support. Cheers Gmcbjames (talk) 19:13, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

US 50,000 Challenge invite
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject United States/The 50,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more states than they might otherwise work on. If there's the interest I will start 1000 State Challenges like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of states regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for the US and your specialist/home state like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every state, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any state sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thankyou.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:20, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
Request photo of ditch-weed for Cannabis in Nebraska
I know that feral hemp grows wild in many parts of Nebraska; if any of y'all happen to pass through such an area, could you pull over and take a photo for Wikimedia Commons so we can add it to Cannabis in Nebraska? Thanks! Goonsquad LCpl Mulvaney (talk) 05:17, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- I'd be glad to oblige, but you might want to send me a reminder come spring: December is not a great time for photographing forbs in Nebraska. — Ammodramus (talk) 13:08, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Popular pages report
We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Nebraska/Archive 5/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Nebraska.
We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:
- The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
- The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
- The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).
We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Nebraska, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.
Warm regards, the Community Tech Team 17:16, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
Request Title/Headline Change for University of Nebraska High School
The page for the University of Nebraska High School is still under the title "University of Nebraska – Lincoln Independent Study High School." The official name has been "University of Nebraska High School" for over five years. I'd like to put in a request to have it changed. Paperwork can be provided upon request. You can also check the official website:
https://highschool.nebraska.edu/
If the process for the same is different, I'd appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction.
Thanks,

I just looked into this--you're going to need an administrator to delete the current redirect University of Nebraska High School page in order to move the original. Daclausen (talk) 20:00, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

Help updating Gallup (company)
Hello, I'm looking for WikiProject Nebraska editors who might be interested in reviewing some suggested updates to clean up the article on Gallup, which has a large base in Omaha. The infobox is missing key content, such as Gallup's former names, its industry, and where it was founded, and the Gallup Press section is currently supported only by primary sources. I've made some suggested changes to fix all these issues. As disclosed on the Gallup Talk page, I have a financial conflict of interest, as I'm offering these updates on behalf of the company as part of my work with Beutler Ink, so I'm looking for other editors to review. Thank you in advance, Danilo Two (talk) 13:15, 24 May 2018 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.
If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.
If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.
Thank you. — The Transhumanist 07:49, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
RfC on election/referendum naming format
An RfC on moving the year from the end to the start of article titles (e.g. South African general election, 2019 to 2019 South African general election) has been reopened for further comment, including on whether a bot could be used move the articles if it closed in favour of the change: Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (government and legislation)#Proposed change to election/referendum naming format. MfD nomination of Portal:Nebraska
Portal:Nebraska, a page which you created or substantially contributed to, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; you may participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Portal:Nebraska and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Portal:Nebraska during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
Monroe Hayward
If there is anyone knowledgeable about Neb legislature history/practices, a question on Monroe Hayward has been unresolved since 2006. Thank you. rags (talk) 22:57, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Ragityman: this has been answered. If you're interested: He became ill and died before taking office. Why he didn't take the oath before falling ill is unclear; no archival sources I have seen mention any reason. Thanks for alerting me to this issue on the page -- forgot to reply back at the time.
