Reference to Grosseto being an Etruscan city.

There is an orphaned reference on the Grosseto, Italy page, which says that it was one of the principal Etruscan cities.

However the rest of the article specifically says that the town originates in the High Middle Ages and the first mention of the city was in the 803. I have searched everywhere for information regarding an Etruscan connection on the web, but have turned up nothing (except for reprints of this Wiki entry).

I am thinking that the error is erroneously using the word "Etruscan" instead of "Tuscan", but wanted to speak with community before making the change myself.

Could someone please let me know if I am mistaken? Kinneytj (talk) 11:12, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Immacolata needs new article/redirect

The article on Mario Cuomo (U.S. politician of Italian heritage) says: "His mother was an Immacolata." I have no idea what this means. Immacolata is currently an article about a fictitious character. Could someone please create an appropriate article for this or create a redirect to an appropriate existing article? Thanks.

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Italy

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 22:30, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Palazzo Pitti has been nominated for a featured article review. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. Please leave your comments and help us to return the article to featured quality. The instructions for the review process are here. Reviewers' concerns are here.

(NO) in article titles

I'm inclined to think an article ending in (NO) should be moved to end in Novara per standard naming conventions when disambiguating titles. This would include Arona (NO), Gozzano (NO), Momo (NO), Pella (NO), Pisano (NO) and possibly more. GrszX 02:41, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

When there aren't other cities with the same name in Italy, I think we should disambiguate with "(Italy)". For example, there's only one city called Arona in Italy, so move "Arona (NO)" to Arona (Italy). Gozzano redirects to Gozzano (NO), so we should obviously move "Gozzano (NO)" to Gozzano, because there's no need to disambiguate. When there are more cities with the same name in Italy, for example Samone in the province of Turin and in the province of Trento, I think we should use the code of the provinces to disambiguate (so Samone (TO) and Samone (TN)): using a name like "Samone (Turin)" is confusing because you could think that Samone is inside the city of Turin (a frazione for example) or something like that.--Supparluca 07:42, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

GA Sweeps invitation

This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. Instead of reviewing by topic, editors can consider picking and choosing whichever articles they are interested in.

We are always looking for new members to assist with reviewing the remaining articles, and since this project has GAs under its scope, it would be beneficial if any of its members could review a few articles (perhaps your project's articles). Your project's members are likely to be more knowledgeable about your topic GAs then an outside reviewer. As a result, reviewing your project's articles would improve the quality of the review in ensuring that the article meets your project's concerns on sourcing, content, and guidelines. However, members can also review any other article in the worklist to ensure it meets the GA criteria.

If any members are interested, please visit the GA sweeps page for further details and instructions in initiating a review. If you'd like to join the process, please add your name to the running total page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles from the worklist or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. With ~1,300 articles left to review, we would appreciate any editors that could contribute in helping to uphold the quality of GAs. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! Silvio Berlusconi: "president's villa" in Sardinia

Recent reports on Silvio Berlusconi have referred to "the president's villa" in Sardinia. Can anyone clarify for us exactly who this belongs to, and especially, whether this villa is owned by the government or in someone's capacity as a private citizen? (For comparison, President GW Bush lived in the White House in Washington DC, which belongs to the government, and he also owned a ranch in Texas as a private citizen.) Ideally I'd like an online cite for this info, if possible.
Thanks much. -- 201.37.230.43 (talk) 03:38, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Italian government of 1823

Our article on the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls (Basilica di San Paolo fuori le Mura) contains this bit copied directly from the 1913 Catholic Encyclopedia:

  • In 1823 a fire... resulted in the destruction of the basilica. ... The work on the principal facade, looking toward the Tiber, was completed by the Italian Government, which declared the church a national monument.

The article goes on to say that the work was completed by 1840. My question is this: was there an "Italian Government" in 1823, or even 1840? I thought that unification didn't get going until around 1860. Any ideas?   Will Beback  talk  07:39, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes. But it doesn’t say that the work was completed by 1840, only that it re-opened in that year. The work on the principal façade, which it says was completed by the Italian government, could very likely have started after 1840 and have been finished much later in the century. It would be useful to get the details, but in this case I would tend to trust the Catholic Encyclopedia: it’s authors tend to be extremely aware of issues concerning the post-unification government because of its dispute with the Papacy. I hope that helps, though obviously its not a definitive answer. Ian Spackman (talk) 09:44, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
According to the article in the Italian Wikipedia (not a reliable source, but probably correct), the façade’s mosaics were completed in 1874, and its 150-column external portico was only finished in 1928. (Well after the Catholic Encyclopedia was published, of course.) I guess that explains it. Ian Spackman (talk) 09:49, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for tracking that down. I see you've removed the cite request, which is fine, but could you also add a clarification to the text to say that the facade work was done later? The existing text implies that it was all done by 1840.   Will Beback  talk  23:47, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Maybe all that's needed is to move the information on the facade to after the description of the 1840 rededication.   Will Beback  talk  23:48, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Yes, that’s a very good suggestion. Thanks. (I did make a quick check in the TCI guide to Rome on Google books [7] in order to pin down actual dates, but the page which would have covered the fire and reconstruction was hidden from view.) I’ve had a go at re-ordering and re-phrasing the paragraph. Does it look o.k. now? Ian Spackman (talk) 08:16, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

An announcement about the study also appeared in the Wikipedia signpost and an article in Il Sole 24 Ore (sorry the article is not online). I thought that this study might also be interesting to this project. Please feel free to contact me through my talk page if you have any questions. Lundquistsrl GT (talk) 09:08, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Stemma's for deletion

See Commons:Commons:Deletion requests/Italian CoA. Might be possible to move the images here and fair use them. multichill (talk) 11:11, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Monster of Florence

This article, while rather lacking on the english wikipedia, is covered in significantly more detail on the italian wikipedia. Now, I don't speak or read Italian, and even on the english wiki usually confine myself to small edits, so I feel kind of useless in this situation. However, I feel there could be some significant gains to the quality of the english article by reading and translating information over from their wiki rather than attempting to synthesis it ourselves. Anyway I can help, just let me know, but I figured I should at least bring it to your attention. DurinsBane87 (talk) 09:21, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Delle Piane in Novi Ligure and Savona

Dellepiane (together) is simply another spelling and variant of Delle Piane (seperately), they are the same names of the same family, and the name was also rendered as (de Planum) in the medieval ages. The correct spelling is Delle Piane (seperately). Sometimes (delle) is spelt with a small (d) because it is a preposition. There are some spelling mistakes, the correct spelling is Palazzo Delle Piane and Piazza Delle Piane (seperately), the seperate spelling can be found in some documents, books, websites and also in the Italian Wikipedia... Can someone shed more information on this?

Heihachi makes a cameo appearance in the popular Italian satirical comic Don Zauker, where he fights the musclebound and libidinous exorcist, just to be beaten and shown "who has the best God".

Google's turned up nothing to flesh this out unfortunately, or to even provide a citation.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 13:10, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

Greetings

I have resolved to achieve a fairly ambitious goal - improving Giro d'Italia to Featured topic status. I figure it'll take around three years. I approach it as a member of WP:CYCLING, but much as the soon-to-be-realized promotion of 2009 Giro d'Italia to Good topic indicates, it's as much something for you guys to boast as it is for us.

I'm not asking for help developing the ~100 articles (though it would of course be welcome), I'm asking for potential help with translations. Particularly with very old editions of the race, I anticipate that the sources I'll be able to find will be largely in Italian, and mine is not molto bene. Surely there are English/Italian bilingual users in this Project, so would anyone potentially be up for helping me with sources? I know exact translations are very work-intensive (I'm fluent in Spanish, so I have some experiences translating), I'd more be looking to verify gisted online or iffy self-translations.

I have requested a list of popular pages for this project at [12]. --Ysangkok (talk) 15:42, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Very high priority subject

As part of Wikipedia's Doughnut Drive to the next decade, coverage of Guanti, (Assisi) Bastoncello, (Calabria) Scaddateddi, Zeppole Spignesi, Chiacchiere [3], Lattughe (this may not be classifiable as doughnut, but it is fried pastry, in a Lettuce" style) Cenci, Donzelle Bugie, Crostoli, Fritole, Ciambelli (Cocullo, Abruzzi) and Bomboloni are desperately needed. Please help! ChildofMidnight (talk) 00:13, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

Aldo Moro article inadequate

He was PM for a total of over 6 years and spent several more in key cabinet posts, yet there is no mention of this other than the beginning and end dates. Thus the B quality rating of the article is not appropriate it barely qualifies for a C rating Lenbrazil (talk) 19:16, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Pageview stats

After a recent request, I added WikiProject Italy to the list of projects to compile monthly pageview stats for. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Italy/Popular pages.

The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. You can view more results, request a new project be added to the list, or request a configuration change for this project using the toolserver tool. If you have any comments or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks! Mr.Z-man 01:10, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

A-Class review for Italian battleship Roma (1940) now open

Roburent

The article for Roburent includes this sentence: The municipality of Roburent contains the frazione (subdivision) of San Giacomo. I've piped the San Giacomo link to target San Giacomo Cuneo based on the assumption that such a place actually exists (an educated guess on my part, following from the naming pattern established on the San Giacomo disambiguation page). Since this was more or less a guess on my part I'm not comfortable leaving it without saying anything, so if anyone knows any better I just wanted to invite you to correct the potential problem.

Thanks for working on the article – those bot-written pages always benefit from human interventions; and thanks for raising the question. San Giacomo is a common place name, and there are several within the Province of Cuneo. If it were to be written – and the place is certainly notable – the author would probably call it San Giacomo di Roburent or San Giacomo (Roburent). In the meantime I have de-linked it. There’s not much benefit in a redlink from the article on Roburent, because any experienced editor who wrote it (or found it freshly written) would know to look at the page on the comune and check that it was linked from there correctly. Comuni around Lago di Bolsena

I visit this area every year with my partner who was born in Gradoli, so will help with editing and expanding relevant articles. (Do not be confused by my username which relates to the UK-use of the word Lido to mean an open-air swimming pool.)--Lidos (talk) 18:19, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Translation request

I've quote eight lines of the libretto for I masnadieri at Stichomythia. Could someone translate them into English, please, maybe as a footnote? (That is, if you think quoting them is a good idea.) —JerryFriedman (Talk) 05:22, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
