The Symbols Project edit
The goal of the project is to create coats of arms and flags files for the municipalities of Puerto Rico, as well as high-quality SVG representations of the files or insignias.
- The default display size of the image file should not be too small, nor too big.
- Ensure your .svg passes validation with different tools. You can use this tool before asking the team to look at it: validator.w3.org/.
- You can also upload your image to the File:Test.svg on WikiCommons before "really uploading" it as a final
- If the item was created with Adobe Illustrator and is marked valid, it is most assuredly valid.
- However, some unknown tools are marked valid when they're not. See this where it is marked "valid" but is "invalid".
- An invalid, fake, or bad .svg can cause more harm than good, not displaying properly for the reader. Read here re: the danger of svgs.
- When a high-quality .svg is not available a raster image should be on the municipality's article pages, if available.

The goal of the Symbols Project is to have (good) .svgs created of Puerto Rico's symbols. Note that a FAKE svg is one that has an .svg file extension but no vectorization. An SVG with raster elements (used to be called a BAD svg but since 2019 is called an SVG with raster elements) is one that has a mixture of vector and raster. - Be aware of Commons:Overwriting existing files guideline Essentially, the guideline states Do not overwrite another user's file on Commons (with caveats). If your file is not too different or if it's converting a FAKE or SVG with raster elements to a valid and high-quality svg, then you can overlay it but should discuss it with the creator of the original file about uploading over their version, beforehand. See the pollicy for more details.
Communicating edit
- A checkmark (
) in the last column means an .svg has been added to wikidata, en-Wiki and other wikimedia projects but it doesn't necessarily mean it's a "correct" artistic representation of the symbol - that matter is discussed on symbol discussion / talk pages and a coat of arms or flag can be marked with a { { Fact disputed|section=talk page section name } } template. - Last column of this table has either a checkmark, “see talk page” or “file is non-free image..."
