Why did you delete gameplay section

Dear DashDog01. I am sorry for the delay in responding in full to you, due to family circumstances at home. I have now looked into why I jumped to the conclusion that you had been responsible for adding copyrighted text to the article on Swordigo. I accused you – quite wrongly - of adding text after a tool we use to detect so-called ‘copyvios’ identified a YouTube description as the source, when almost certainly the reverse was the case. However, thanks to another editor here, it became clear I had not checked the page edits sufficiently thoroughly to appreciate you had simply added to pre-existing content in the article. It was very careless of me, and I now see that text had been there from the page’s creation in 2016, and that you had simply added enhancements of your own. Obviously, my insistence that you had done wrong by these edits - and that I was correct and you were not - was both immensely frustrating and very upsetting for you – and I respect you for continuing to challenge me. I think you are quite right to say that you are the one who should be disappointed in me and my reply on this occasion. I can fully understand why you might have lost faith with us – well me - here at the Teahouse when our sole intention always is to be as supportive and as helpful as we can to new editors like you. I hope you feel my previous attempts to support and answer all your detailed questions here were done in that spirit, and I am glad you have finally started editing some real articles, though I didn't get you off to a good start there, did I? For this mistake I can only apologise to you and hope that it doesn’t put you off contributing to Wikipedia articles in the future.

As you have probably now seen, I have reinstated the article text, corrected a few of the genuine issues I commented on when you asked for a review of your first edits, and struck out those elements of my response which I now fully accept were not correct. This might seem an odd way of doing things – why not just delete the text, you may wonder? That’s not what we do here in talk pages when we recognise we have said things that we later feel are not correct. Thus, my struck edits and this apology to you for impugning your good faith edits stand for anyone to scrutinise.

I have always regarded the whole Wikipedia adventure as a huge and amazing learning experience, and in this case I hope I have learnt not to jump too quickly to conclusions about a user’s editing, and to be a little more careful in future. As I said in my original post, I am always willing to apologise for any mistakes I might make, and in this case you do deserve that full apology from me. I am impressed with WP:GOCE and its success rates. The idea of letting newbies seek assistance of experts is awesome. I want to replicate similar thing in infobox arena. VPTech exist, but that is too general. Nice idea, Capankajsmilyo. I've just added a shortcut template to that page for you. Perhaps a post to the Teahouse Talk page would ensure that more hosts see this information and for longer- especially once you've got it bedded in? It's never great to pass a newcomer on to another page if we can answer it here, but it's good to know specialist editors like you are able to offer support with the more technical questions on Infoboxes. Maybe you might wish to offer to help out as a Teahouse host here yourself? I sometimes suggest to a user that we continue a discussion on my own talk page for a more detailed or ongoing discussion on a help query. You might wish to consider working in that way with WP:IBASSIST, too.

To kick you off, I invite you check out my (amateurish) reply last night to this question on inserting maps for anything I might have said incorrectly, and especially answer my first question to fellow hosts at the bottom, to which I do not know the answer. Hello anonymous IP. Welcome to our Teahouse. You appear to have tried and failed to add one or more images to this page. I am not sure that article needs any more images, does it. There are six thee already, including a bidet, so a gallery is unlikely to be necessary either. If the image you'd like to add is available on Wikimedia Commons, would you care to come back and add its url here. Then we can advise if it's needed, and show you how to add it to the page. If you're in a hurry, I did answer a similar question for another user recently about inserting an image, which you're welcome to check out in this archived post. I should also say that you cannot just take any old picture from the internet and expect to add it to Wikipedia. It will soon get deleted. We only accept the upload of images from you if you own the copyright, or if there has been a clear, unambiguous release under an appropriate licence that we can check and confirm. Hi Lily Newgate. If you feel there is a subject that you would like to write a Wikipedia article about, you can start by creating a draft. When you think the draft is ready, you can submit to Wikipedia:Articles for creation for review. If your draft is declined, an AfC reviewer will explain why and provide suggestions on what things should be improved. The actual writing part, however, is going to basically up to you to do at your own pace. Other editors may occasionally offer suggestions when asked or even make improvements/changes they think are needed and required by relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines, but for the most part they will leave you alone out of deference. You can find out some more general information about writing articles in Wikipedia:Your first article.

Once, however, whatever your working on has been added to the article namespace, other editors are going to be less concerned about stepping on your toes than they are about making sure the article complies with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Others will freely edit the article as they deem necessary to bring it up to Wikipedia's standards. They will try to fix whatever problems can be fixed, but in some cases content not complying with relevant policies and guidelines may need to be removed. Amin, if you click on List of authoritarian regimes supported by the United States, you will be taken to a page which displays the deletion log for the article. That log includes a link to the deletion discussion, or to the deletion reason if there was no discussion. This applied to any deleted Wikipedia page, click on a red link to it to see all past deletion logs. DES ^(talk)_{DESiegel Contribs} 05:05, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

The article still exists. So-called deletion just means that access has been restricted to privileged users. And because the content has a CC licence, you will find plenty of copies elsewhere. Just Google for the title to find them. Andrew D. (talk) 07:06, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

I assume that this is about your user page, User:Vermaforbulksms. Your user page is intended for you to write about yourself and your activities in Wikipedia. Instead, you have used it to write an advertisement. Wikipedia should not be used for promotion, and does not allow advertisements. What you wrote will soon be deleted. Roland R-5 Drum Machine - request for assistance in creating a page

Hi there. An great article already exists for the Roland R-8 drum machine and it is a good article, however, there is no page for the R-8's younger brother the R-5, there isn't much information about it out there i only rememeberted about it as i used to have the promotional poster from Roland the featured both the R-8 and the R-5 and wondered whether any of you more experienced contributors would like to lend a hand in creating the page at all? Can anyone figure out how to fix Combined Bomber Offensive#CBO Plan

At the very end of the section, in the "1944 October" row of the table, is a messed-up footnote whose wikitext is:

{{sfn|Kreis|1996|p={{Clarify|p. 154,185,or 242?|date=June 2010}}}}

I have figured out that the {{Clarify}} wants a |reason= before the text, but that doesn't fix the major problem, which is that {{sfn}} can't handle the wikitext emitted by {{clarify}}. It tries to use the |p= parameter as part of the anchor name, and ends up including illegal characters resulting in garbled markup.

But I can't figure out an alternate way to get the appropriate cleanup category included in the footnote.

Quite simply, I'm not sure what The Right Thing to do in this situation is. Move the {{clarify}} to the main text (after the closing }})? Fix {{sfn}} to sanitize its inputs correctly?

The reference once read <ref name=Kreis/>{{clarify|p. 154,185,or 242?}}. It was converted to {{sfn|Kreis|1996}}, but with a garbled form of the clarify tag inside the reference, where it made no sense. I have tried to put it all back in a sensible state. Maproom (talk) 07:48, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Each time I tried to upload a photo, it was rejected; even though I took the photos and they did not represent any copyrighted items. I would like to know what I have to do to successfully upload a photo from my own collection.

Hello GreenmeansGo , Thank you very much for responding. I have just submitted an article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:The_Smile_Machine). What I meant was, and I am sorry for the confusion, is that, when in creating my article, I tried to upload a photo from my personal collection (of things that I made), each time I got a message saying that there appeared to be some "issue" with the photo as to possible copyright (or other) issues. I don't know. When articles exist at Wikipedia, it is because someone who is interested in the subject writes them. Ergo, if they don't exist, it means someone who was interested didn't write it. Ergo again, if you're interested, you're responsible for writing it, because no one else is. If you want to see an article on a subject, and one doesn't exist yet, do some research, collect sources, and start writing it! This is actually one of the Official Wikipedia Guidelines, see WP:BOLD, to wit: "Fix it yourself instead of just talking about it." --Jayron 32 02:50, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

It's actually very easy. See WP:42 for a quick explanation. The way you know if something is notable enough is if there is sufficient amounts of independent reliable writing about the subject. That is, if people outside of Wikipedia, and entirely independent of the subject (in this case the Samsung corporation) have written enough text that you could use that text to write a reasonably comprehensive encyclopedia article. In other words, something is notable enough if you can write a fully-referenced quality Wikipedia article about it. --Jayron 32 11:58, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Yes, Google Maps is not a WP:Reliable source. I've been trying to correct a mis-naming of a location for the past ten years, but Google doesn't do anything to correct the error. Dbfirs 12:21, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Torontofacts, this is not a "breech", it is merely a flaw in Google Maps's security model. Secondly as per WP:NOTNEWS this probably dos not belong in a Wikipedia article at all, unless there are loner term secondary sources covering it, of highr reliability and impact han a local news story. Hey Torontofacts. I'm not totally sure that Sydney Eatz easily meets our standards for notability, since virtually all of the news coverage about her seems to be fairly niche local coverage in the Toronto Star, with as far as I can tell, essentially no coverage otherwise. As to how you add media to the article, (assuming there actually is additional substantial sources available that I'm just missing), the short answer is that you need to find media that is free for public use, and for articles on living persons, we generally cannot use anything that is non-free. Unfortunately, this often means that articles on living persons have to wait for an extended period of time for such media to become available. GMG ^talk 12:35, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

I retired from Wikipedia. Then came back. And quit again. What can I do to get better at editing?

I retired for a reason: I'm feel like I'm doing a pretty bad job. If you scroll through my edits, you'll see they are worse edits like accidentally undoing an IP user's reverted vandalism (they reverted their own vandalism and I undid it by blanking the page on accident), reverting well sourced edits, and some 4 other edits. I plan on deleting my account if I don't get the help I need. Mostly from lack of welcoming me. Or other than that to retire permanently. But I need some special help. Like can't an admin cover me editing? If I can't get any help, I'll retire and probably delete my account (if it's possible). HorsesARENice^{Ride me to my talk page} 06:38, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

People have been quite welcoming to you. One way to enjoy wikipedia is to read the articles and enjoy editing about subjects you are interested in. Perhaps give reverting problematic edits a rest while you learn the basics and read up on some of wikipedia policies. Once you have more experience, you will make less mistakes. We all make mistakes sometimes, the important thing is to learn from them. HAN - your initial approach - riding in on a white horse (well, a horse) - to rescue articles by deleting what you identified as vandalism or otherwise wrong, got you in harm's way. May I suggest you focus for a while on being an additionalist rather than a deletionist? While Deletionism is thought of by many as a means to improve Wikipedia, newbies who start out as self-appointed deletion police can run into land mines, in the form of pushback (and headslaps) from highly experienced editors who do not take kindly to someone trampling their content. @HorsesAreNice: As linked above, you can ask for mentoring at Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user, or you can come back at the Teahouse everytime you have a question. That your first edits were bad is not a big problem if you are willing and able to improve. However, I would advise to drop the request to be tutored specifically by an administrator; I guess what you actually meant is to ask for an "experienced user" (there is no need for admin tools to counsel a new user) but (especially when coupled with mentions of departure) requesting specifically an admin comes across as being high-maintenance. Image license and adding fairuse , etc

Hi want to know how the more experience editors and other editiors license images or where they get images of for (eg. @DashDog01: The general principles first: images used in Wikipedia article should be under a free license if possible, and taken from our sister project Wikimedia Commons. You can already find a lot of free images there, or upload your own freely-licensed pictures. If no free license applies, certain non-free images are accepted under strict circumstances, outlined at WP:NFCC; in that case, the images should be uploaded locally (via Special:Upload on Wikipedia, NOT on Commons). (After the upload, see WP:IMAGE for how to include those in articles)

For photographs of living people, we consider that the "no free equivalent could be created" clause (NFCC #1) means that a free license is necessary (because if no free photograph exist, someone could always go and ask for a freely-licensed photograph). This usually means that a Wikipedian or a Commons user takes it themselves. In the particular case of Ryan Gosling, clicking through the article image brings you to File:Ryan Gosling by Gage Skidmore.jpg, uploaded by the photographer.

For video game screenshots, WP:SCREENSHOT will tell you that screenshots you take yourself are non-free but pass NFCC if they are used in a relevant article (NFCC #7) and at a low resolution (NFCC #3 b).

DashDog01, for a biography article, one of the best ways is to visit the person or attend a public event where the person is speaking, and take a photo yourself. Similarly, one can take photos of a building or site. If you take it yourself, there is no copyright issue. One can also ask a person for an image that s/he is willing to release under a free license.

Article doesn't redirect to the right article

I have another question. The article Nestle Pure Life is supposed to redirect to Nestlé Pure Life, but instead it redirects to Nestlé Waters North America. A bot did this edit because of a double redirect. However, there is no double redirect anymore but it still redirects to that page. Should this be fixed? Porkchop GMX 15:17, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Awards and signature

Hey everyone thanks for your help so far! My next question is that I noticed a lot of people have awards on their pages and I was wondering how I get them (like how many edits or vandalism undo’s)? And does having certain awards or a certain number of them unlock more features like more userboxes or Twinkle? Also I noticed that a lot of people have cool signatures with different colors and fonts etc but mine is just my username - so is that something else I get access to when I have better stats, or what?

@TrlSlasher: There is Service Awards, but it's all just for fun. After you have 10 edits and your account is 4 days old, you become autoconfirmed which allows you to do more things than a brand-new account, but that's it. You should concentrate on making edits to articles to improve the encyclopedia, and not be concerned about awards. If you do well, someone may give you a WP:BARNSTAR. (edit conflict) Hello TrlSlasher. Welcome - it's no bother at all. The most common sort of award you see on another editor's Talk page are called Barnstars - a kind of "well done!" sticker to give someone for doing a great job at something...or even a bit of 'wikilove', which is just a sort of randomly being friendly sticker (or so I'm told!). See Wikipedia:Barnstars for more info on these. But there's also other types, which you can find out about at Wikipedia:Awards.

You may also see on editors' Userpages various 'Userboxes' which you can add to declare something about yourself. There are tons of these, all listed at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Galleries, covering everything from liking cheese to fighting vandals, or from how many edits you've made, to where you live. (OK, I may have made the first one up, but do come back and tell me if you do actually find one about cheese!)

You can win up to 15 'badges' for doing the various steps in The Wikipedia Adventure which I'd recommend to all new editors here -they get automatically added to your userpage. Finally, at one time the Teahouse hosts even used to give out badges for folk asking great questions here, or for giving helpful answers and stuff, though I don't think these get used much nowadays. I created a biograpghy page Nwankwo Sonia and it was not published because i didnt get enough sources or proper references for the article. Hello, Ohiwere Kelvis. Let us take a look at the currently cited sources in Draft:Sonia Nwankwo.

There is one cite to actorsguildofnigeriaabuja.com, which gives basic info about Nwankwo Sonia, but does not even list heer various roles.
There are two cites to different pages (for different films) from www.nigeriamovienetwork.com. Neither mentions Nwankwo Sonia at all. Neither lists the cast of the movie. I am not sure how reliable this site is as a source in any case.
There is one cite to a page from Waploaded Movies. This appears to be a site where one can download various films. i haven't tried to check if it is violating the copyright on the films. in any case it doesn't seem to mention Nwankwo at all.
There is one cite to a page from NetNaija. This also seems to be a film download site. Again it does not so much as mention Nwankwo.

None of these are in any way helpful in establishing Nwankwo's notability. To do nthat, there must be multiple independent published reliable sources that discuss her specifically: 3-4 paragraphs or more 'about her from each source. Until this minimum level of sourcing is achieved, there cannot be an article about her. Please read our guideline on the notability of actors. You can only get the article published here on Wikipedia by finding and citing those sources. So far the co8unt of good sources cited is zero.

Another article doesn’t redirect to the correct page

Looks like I have another one to report. The article Emoji Domain is supposed to redirect to Emoji domain, but it redirects to Internationalized domain name instead. It was redirected because of a double redirect. An emoji domain is an internationalized domain name. However, the one with the lowercase D is no lomger a redirect. Inserting photos

I am new at learning about editing in Wikipedia. As I tried to add a photo I was confronted by the screen that asked if I was the owner of the photo. I am not the owner of the photo specifically, but the Wikipedia entry pertains to my partner. The photo was taken while he was in office, and we would like to add it to his Wikipedia bio. How should I handle this? Is it ok to add it since the photo is of him even though I guess officially the state where he served in office would be the official owner? The copyright usually belongs to the photographer, though in this case it might well belong to the state. The owner of the copyright must release the photo under a suitable licence if it is uploaded to WP:Commons. You could take a new photo yourself and release that version, but that's probably not what you want. Wikipedia:Images gives general guidance. Dbfirs 16:05, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

WP is for confirmed facts that are substantiate by credible sources. If it is so common knowledge then it should not be a problem to find a credible source. Editing wikidata and combining transwiki articles

Hello, I'm a bit lost on editing links within wikidata.

I'm trying to combine https://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laminointi with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamination. So far I've added the Finnish label and description and the wikipedia link. However, before adding the wikipedia link I was asked to remove the entry from the old wikidata page: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q11874530, which I did and managed to get the entry listed into the main wikidata page here: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q384943. But the link to the Finnish page doesn't show up in the languages bar? Do wikidata edits have to go through administration or did I do something wrong? NinuKinuski (talk) 11:15, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

@LovelyGirl7: Hello and welcome to the Teahouse. Looking at the article and discussion briefly, it seems that the major issues are the sources. To merit an article here, Krassenstein needs to have been written about with in depth coverage in independent reliable sources that indicate how he meets the notability guidelines for biographies. Most of the sources related to this person's tweets (which seems to be the claim to notability) are brief mentions. Once source has a little coverage, but it is a blog and blogs are not usually considered reliable sources as they usually lack editorial control and review(unlike a newspaper or TV news). Unless better sources are out there about this person in depth, I regret to say that I don't think this can be saved. I know that is likely disappointing, and I am sorry about that. However, all articles must meet the criteria for notability and sourcing. I think the best that you could hope for would be to ask that the article be transferred to Draft space or to your personal Sandbox if you think there is a chance this person will have better sources in the future. 331dot (talk) 20:28, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

Hello, JaneMaxwell63 and welcome to the Teahouse. Neither of these articles now are or ever were "drafts" in the technical sense. That is their page names did not start with "Draft:". They are simply recently created articles. Like any article, anyone may edit them, suggest improvements, or even suggest that the community discuss whether to delete them. But no "gstekeeper" review is required.

Honestly, had these been created as drafts via the article wizard and sent to articles for creation for review, I doubt that either would have been accepted in their current state. They simply have too few source citations, and they do not make fully clear in what ways their subjects are significant in my view.ow that does not mean that the articles should not exist, but rather that they should be improved. Hello, 07Alpha55 welcome to our Teahouse. Just to expand on the succinct reply from Kewlgrapes above, you've probably already seen the suggested minimum requirements for being a host (see this page)? I guess the key thing to assisting at the Teahouse is having a reasonable experience of editing under your belt and a fair understanding of Wikipedia's processes and policies, and definitely having a friendly approach to helping people and explaining stuff. (Plus maybe also being good at making tea every month or so for everyone!) But even just hanging around here and seeing new questions being asked and answered by hosts is a great way to learn things. It's certainly helped me acquire new skills. I contribute when I can, but try not to jump in with an answer if I'm not confident about my knowledge unless, that is, I see a difficult question has gone unanswered for a whole day. Then I might have a bash at helping out, but I do then try to make it clear I'm not very experienced in that particular area. (And sometimes I might make a mistake and another host will point out my error, as happened recently.) Sometimes we see quite new editors bringing a very refreshing new perspective for other newcomers here, because those of us who've been around for quite a while tend to forget what it was like, and maybe we can't quite relate so easily to the experience of having one's edits rejected and not understanding why that happened. Having someone else explain what that feels like can, I guess, also be quite reassuring to other new editors here. After all, that's our aim - to assist and support every new editor in resolving problems and encouraging them to stay around and continue working constructively to build this amazing encyclopaedia. Having just looked back through your talk page, which you seem to have blanked a few times recently, I tend to think you could probably do with carrying on gaining a little more editing experience and understanding why some things are or aren't OK to do here. But do stick around, watch, listen and learn, and maybe contribute when you feel able and on confident ground to share your experiences to help others. Would it be possible to be directed to the appropriate film main page for advice on a continually disruptive editor?

The current film is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spy_Game that the plot has several inaccuracies that are plainly established by viewing the fil, Oldjacobite is athis usual reverting with quipsical edit summaries such as 'Nonsensical" He is getting rather tiresome. Before there is a 3 revert impose I would like ti address the question to other film article plot editors and maybe submit the mater to a topic discussion which he normally does not participate in es[pecially when he has nothing to support his actions. Hello and welcome to the Teahouse. If you are in a dispute with another editor, you should first attempt to discuss the matter on the article talk page. If that does not work, there are dispute resolution procedures that can be used.

Hello, Colenyj - welcome to Wikipedia and to our Teahouse. I see you're talking about the The Wikipedia Adventure. I've done it a couple of times, but I don't remember seeing those particular instructions. However, to move on you ought simply to be able to go to your user page at User talk:Colenyj where you'll see an automated welcome message from the Adventure. This lists seven Missions, so just click on the next one to continue. There are 15 badges to collect in total. (It might be worth me mentioning that at one particular stage I also got stuck until I scrolled right down to the very bottom of the page and discovered the next instruction which had popped up there, but I had missed entirely. I'm not sure if this was your issue, or not, but just to warn you it can catch folk out.) Good luck with the rest of the Adventure - and with your move to university later in the year. Draft:Pyramid over Moscow. Help needed

This Draft:Pyramid over Moscow was declined twice. I'm not dissapointed with declining the page. This is my debutant page. But I'm not sure what exactly is wrong.

First I found reliable sources that are independent of the subject, such as New York Post, the Telegraf, Mirror.Co.Uk, etc. Russian VGTRK, Russia Today, Echo of Moscow radio, etc.

Do I need more of them? They are saying all the same, so I chose the most valuable

Second I have expanded the cultural aspect and added UFO theories with 3 reliable observers, observing 'Pyramod' directly, Nick Pope, Nicolai Levashov and Kosmopoisk.

Right now I'm just a bit confused what I've missed.

The article itself is at the Categories of viral videos, also UFO. And 'Pyramid' fits these categories as long as video became viral and sparkled mass-media reaction and buzzed ufology society. Looks like the subject of the page, the 'Pyramid over Moscow' is significant enough for Wiki; and that's me who's doing something wrong with the description

Hello, Aleksandr Reznichenko, and welcome to the Teahouse? Did you ask Heliosxeros, who most recently declined this draft, what s/he thought it needed? It is perhaps unfortunate than no specific comment was left along with the decline notice.

Not all of the sources you cite are highly reliable. The London Daily Mail has such a bad reputation for accuracy that including it as a source actually hurts any article it is used in. The NY Post does not have the very best reputation either. I cannot evaluate the non-English-language sources.
The final paragraph, in which you state some conclusions drawn about the cause of the "pyramid" is uncited. Can you include a citation for these statements?
This event occurred in 2009. Has it gotten any coverage since then? Any that was more than a short time after the event? According to WP:SUSTAINED: Brief bursts of news coverage may not sufficiently demonstrate notability. However, sustained coverage is an indicator of notability, as described by notability of events. Can you find and cite sources to show any sustained interest in this "pyramid"?
Note also that WP:PERSISTENCE says: Events that are only covered in sources published during or immediately after an event, without further analysis or discussion, are likely not suitable for an encyclopedia article.. This i much the same idea as the previous point, and I fear that this event will not qualify under this guideline.

In fact THIS IS a citation. But this is my own translation from RU to ENG. There's no official translation and that, perhaps, is the problem. Is there anything I can do in such situation?
As for brief bursts of news coverage - yes bursts were indeed 'brief'. But the whole artice is in Category of 'Viral videos'. How is this possible to write ANYTHING for that Category, not being brief? For example this Arrest of Vladimir Putin viral video was also covered by news briefly, but this page exists. Nearly all virals List of viral videos were covered by news briefly.
Maybe I should describe 'Pyramid' more like here 2 Girls 1 Cup for example? Chapters like 'Production', 'Background', 'Impact', 'Media recognition'? I can do that, rewrite whole page for 'Pyramid' in that manner
