Standard image advice follows:
  • If you want to upload an image from your computer for use in an article, you must determine the proper license of the image (or whether it is in the public domain). If you know the image is public domain or copyrighted but under a suitable free-license, upload it to the Wikimedia Commons instead of here, so that all projects have access to the image (sign up). If you are unsure of the licensing status, see the file upload wizard for more information. Please also read Wikipedia's image use policy.
  • If you want to add an image that has already been uploaded to Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons, add [[File:File name.jpg|thumb|Caption text.]] to the area of the article where you want the image to appear – replacing File name.jpg with the actual file name of the image, and Caption text with a short description of the image. Wrong photograph

Tonight when I did a search on Bing I inserted Clyde Averitt in the search box. When I finally got to the final page the picture on that page (a bearded gentleman with a starring look) is not me. That is a photo of my brother that is dead and his funeral was held by Clayton Funeral Home, Pearland, Texas. That is the same photo that was used in his funeral program. THAT IS NOT CLYDE AVERITT AND IS MISLEADING should anyone search Clyde Averitt on Bing. Please remove this picture. If you wish to insert the right photo then check my facebook page and use my current profile photo.

Diamonds

I am a Gem collector and a resaler. I was trying to find information on the towalski diamonds cut. Im of the understanding that it was first invented in Russia by the Towalski family, however I am unable to find any information on the family or the Gem cutting involved with this application with a diamond. Requesting advice on conduct

I’ve posed this question to an editor after having this very problem with him (and he had problems with how I handled the situation), but he’s unwilling to advise me on proper conduct, or even point me to the right place to seek that advice. So if this isn’t the right place, please tell me where I should be asking.

If a fellow editor does not give information that I believe is necessary in order to take action, and is unresponsive to requests for that information, what is the proper thing to do? In that case, I took action anyway, partly out of frustration, but I’m fairly certain that’s not the right answer. What is? —Frungi (talk) 03:41, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Has this materially affected the content of the article? Unless it has, I can see no reason why it would matter - but you are still being vague. I’m not looking for advice concerning this specific incident, since it was resolved. I’m asking what I should do in similar circumstances (assuming that the issue involves changing an article’s content, and such an editor is the only other person involved), which is why I tried to make the question as general as possible. His being unresponsive to requests for that information in fact may be a response (non action) to that information, just not the response you are looking for. I try to be general, and I end up being vague instead… sorry. I meant that the info was necessary to determine the correct course of action. In this case, I got frustrated with his unresponsiveness regarding what he thought should be done, and simply did what made sense to me, but this may have been the wrong action and left my questions to him unanswered. Requests for clarification went unanswered beyond his initial, uninformative response, and ultimately resulted in accusations of badgering.

Agreed, but that came well after the fact (which is another discussion entirely, and I thought I’ve made it clear that I wasn’t asking about this incident specifically); what about the matter itself? Is it right to act regardless of uncertainty of the other editor’s stance? Or should it be brought up elsewhere? You're mixing apples and oranges and then changing that to post a help desk question about different meats. Your need to be general is annoying and the person to whom you were communicating probably found it annoying as well. The specific facts that brought you to the help desk already have been posted in Wikipedia, so I don't understand why you cannot repeat them in this thread using diff links. Do you think other editors are not capable of providing you a general answer to a specific fact question so that you then can apply that general answer to other situations? As for "the info was necessary to determine the correct course of action," my reply from above is revise to: A person being unresponsive to requests for that information in fact may be a response (non action) to that information, just not the response you are looking for. Where a person responds without the information and the information is necessary in order to determine the correct course of action, you lack the necessary information to determine the correct course of action. Since you cannot determine the correct course of action, you cannot take the action and it would not be right to act regardless of uncertainty of an other editor’s stance. When an editor holds the key to the necessary information, there would be no point to bringing it up elsewhere. When that editor has no interest in replying any more under such circumstances, it seems time to move onto something else. I didn’t think it would be necessary to give specific details, and I didn’t trust myself to go into detail about the situation without sounding like I was just complaining about the other editor. (If you think I sounded like I was complaining about him anyway, that’s exactly what I mean.) Anyway, thank you for answering. Hi everyone. There seems to be a problem with WikiProject Okanagan, I started project quite a while ago now, and the project still is not in the database and the statistics is not showing, which is supposed to be added automatically by a bot. I am not sure if something is incorrect with the project itself, but after probably 2 weeks of not seeing it, I am questioning. Can someone please help me with this concern? I also read that you have to wait three days (seems like you have waited longer) for the stats to update (unless you run it manually – details on the instruction page). Rotate image in small degrees

I'm looking to upload some images,[1] but need to crop then slightly rotate some of them. Paint, Gimp and other programs only let you rotate 90 degrees. I do recall having a image editor progam that was noted in Wikipedia that allowed me to rotate images, but I don't recall the name. The Gimp docs at http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-tool-rotate.html suggests it will rotate to any arbitrary angle. If that doesn't work, the folks at WP:RD/C might have some suggestions. RudolfRed (talk) 07:04, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks you! It worked great as I was able to rotate the image the few degrees it needed. Another request, I have the GIMP 2.8 help manual via the application, but would like to print the manual out in its entirity so I can read and study it. I cannot figure out how to print out the entire manual at one time and could not seem to find a .pdf version. The manual was from http://docs.gimp.org/. GIMP is a powerful program but the documentation poorly serves users without prior experience at photo editing. I used Picasa for more than a year before outgrowing its capabilities. My favorite book for GIMP is "Beginning GIMP from Novice to Professiona" by Akkana Peck, parts of which are not too advanced for me. Jim.henderson (talk) 14:04, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have used GIMP for rotating images through small angles, and found it extremely slow, and the results poor. I now use PaintShopPro, a commercial product, instead. If you upload your images to Commons, and let me know what angles you would like them rotated through, I can do it for you (if there's not too many of them). I am Vaikunda Raja. I had been an active user here in Wikipedia few years back. I am currently working in a School in South Tamil Nadu. We are planning to Launch a Wikipedia Club in our School by which we wish to make Students use and contribute to Wikipedia.

Being making edits here back I am aware of the Editing policy here. But taking it to the student's scale is somewhat different. Editing epub

I'm a Wikipedia user (Steve92341) and I would like to know something. Let say that I make a book of articles thanks to Wikipedia. And I download an epub version of it so I could read it on my iPhone/iPod/iPad with iBooks.

My point is that if I edit these :

I want to be able to find it identical on the digital copy that not only I've downloaded but for people that will download later on.

  Have you tried Wikipedia's Reference Desk? They specialize in knowledge questions and will try to answer just about any question in the universe (except how to use Wikipedia, since that is what this Help Desk is for). Something wrong on the Genocide article

Rama Infobox Image broken!

A Southern Season becomes Southern Season

I'm an intern working in the marketing department at Chapel Hill's Southern Season gourmet food store. I'm working to update our wiki entry and would like you to drop the 'A' from our title. I've edited the entry's content and noted the change in the company history but cannot find a way to edit the entry's title. Can you please help me accomplish this?

I can find little evidence of the required substantial coverage in reliable sources to demonstrate notability. Controversial redirect

I want to redirect an article using an accent mark in the subject's name to a title that does not use the accent (but that one is essentially a pre-existing Redirect to the accented page). I believe this will be controversial. What should I do? The articles are Rubén Salazar (with the accent) and Ruben Salazar (the actual form used by the subject of the article). I'd say what needs to be changed is how it's used in the article. The normal form of the name is with an accent, and I'm seeing many English sources that follow suit [2] [3] [4] [5]. Re, article: School attacks in China (2010–2012)

There were a number of problems with reference links in the article. At first I tried manually fixing (with dubious results); then I decided to WP:BeBold and WP:DIY and ran Checklinks. I believe I may have fixed some things, but it there still might be some unfixed problems. I found a "Wayback" link for a dead-link, but couldn't figure out how to incorporate it. ~Anyway, somebody should review my efforts in case I might have skrude-up something.

If the citations in question use a citation template, then it can easily be fixed by defining the Wayback link as the archiveurl parameter. This keeps the url from the dead link while providing an additional link to the archived version. If the citation doesn't use a citation template, the {{Wayback}} template can be added inside the <ref> tags to provide a link to the cached url. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 23:15, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fixing template and category

Somehow {{Russian Railways}} doesn't transclude correctly at the very bottom of Trans-Siberian Railway. Also one of the categories also seems to be messed up. I have no idea what the problem is with the template, since the markup used for transcluding it is the same as in Rail transport in Russia, where the template displays correctly. Regarding the category, the problem might be due to the convert template inside the markup, but I am not sure. Trans-Siberian Railway is in Category:Pages where template include size is exceeded due to templates in the infobox. This means templates at the bottom are not transcluded. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:43, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have made a technical solution with Template:Trans-Siberian Railway/Expanded. It makes the article work correctly without removing content from it, but it's a bit complicated and I haven't seen this done before. Maybe there is a reason for that...
