How to add to the community bulletin board Welcome to the community bulletin board, which is a page used for announcements from WikiProjects and other groups. Included here are coordinated efforts, events, projects, and other general announcements. The contest department of the Military history WikiProject aims to motivate increased quality in military history articles by offering a form of friendly competition for project members making improvements to them. The primary contest available is a simple rolling competition that awards points for improving articles. The contest runs from the first to last day of each month. Guild of Copy Editors' editing drive. The May 2024 backlog drive is a one-month-long effort by the Guild of Copy Editors to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy editing: those carrying the {{copy edit}} tag (also {{awkward}}, {{copy edit section}}, {{inappropriate person}}, and {{copy edit inline}}, and their redirects) or are listed on the GOCE Requests page. It will begin on 1 May, 00:00 (UTC), and end on 31 May, 23:59 (UTC). Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red 2024 Events: WP:WIR/EVENTS - updated monthly The 100,000 Challenge. The quest to bring about 100,000 article improvements and creations globally through a series of 50,000/10,000/1000 Challenges for different regions and countries. This is a loose challenge, a list will not be maintained here, but the components will function independently on each of the subpages. Will be updated every week or two. The 50,000 Destubbing Challenge is a long term challenge to destub 50,000 articles on English Wikipedia for every country and topic. It may take decades to accomplish, it may take ten years, it all depends on how many people actively contribute. These wikis participated to a test, where 50% of users got the new design, for one year. As this test gave positive results, the new design is deployed on these wikis as the default design. Problems Kartographer maps can use an alternative visual style without labels, by using mapstyle="osm". This wasn't working in previews, creating the wrong impression that it wasn't supported. To do lists Wikipedia is, by number of articles, the largest encyclopedia ever to exist. However, that comes at a cost: many are stubs, or otherwise need attention. If you like, go ahead, be bold, and jump right in. If you aren't ready to fly solo, you can participate in a Collaboration.

Things to do Help update to the new references format? Respond to a request for comment. Can you draw or take pictures? Make a requested image. Peer review or assess some articles, especially those recently revised. Offer your thoughts and ideas on proposed policies. Can you use GIS tools? Help make requested maps. Collaboration of the week Help edit Lee Smith (baseball), Wikipedia's current collaboration of the week! Please help to bring it up to featured article standard. Lee Arthur Smith (born December 4, 1957 in Shreveport, Louisiana) was a pitcher in Major Leagues. Smith played for eight teams in both the NL and AL in his 18-year career, beginning with the Cubs in 1980. Smith led the league in saves four times during his career and by the time of his retirement in 1997 (with the Expos), he was the all-time leader with 478 saves. Smith used his fastball and size (he stood 6'6") to intimidate batters during the late innings of the game and became one of the premier closers of the 1980's and early 1990's. Article Collaboration and Improvement Drive The Article Collaboration and Improvement Drive works on an article that needs a lot of help to reach featured-article standard. The subject of this week's article improvement drive is Simon Staho (random unreferenced BLP of the day for 2 May 2024 - provided by User:AnomieBOT/RandomPage via WP:RANDUNREF): A picture of Aang and Momo Aang is a fictional character and the main protagonist for Nickelodeon's animated television series Avatar: The Last Airbender, which was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. He is voiced by Zach Tyler Eisen. Twelve-year-old Aang is the last surviving Airbender, a monk of the Air Nomads' Southern Air Temple, and is a supercentenarian at the incarnation age of 112. He is the current incarnation of the Avatar, the spirit of the planet manifested in human form. Aang, as the Avatar, controls the elements and is tasked with keeping the Four Nations at peace. Aang is the series' reluctant hero and comic, spending a century in suspended animation before joining new friends Katara and Sokka on a quest to master the elements and save their world from the war-hungry imperialist Fire Nation. Good Article Collaboration of the week The Good Article Collaboration of the week works to polish already good articles to the highest of standards. This week's improvement drive is Elvis Presley: Elvis Aaron Presley began his career as one of the first performers of rockabilly, an uptempo fusion of country and rhythm and blues with a strong back beat. His novel versions of existing songs, mixing "black" and "white" sounds, made him popular—and controversial—as did his uninhibited stage and television performances. He recorded songs in the rock and roll genre, with tracks like "Hound Dog" and "Jailhouse Rock" later embodying the style. Presley had a versatile voice and had unusually wide success encompassing other genres, including gospel, blues, ballads and pop. To date, he is the only performer to have been inducted into four separate music halls of fame. You can still help pick next week's article.
