Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

DZMM first acronym

It was discussed it mean Music for Mature Minds. Look at the logopedia and search dzmm. ACQ322Acuity (answer me) 00:48, 8 January 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by ACQAcuity (talkcontribs)

Please provide a more reliable source (see WP:Reliable sources). Logopedia is similar to Wikipedia. It can be edited by anyone and it's not safe for hoaxes. -WayKurat (talk) 00:58, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
Looked into Logopedia as well. The user that uploaded the supposed "MM" logo got blocked, which makes their edits in Logopedia more questionable. -WayKurat (talk) 01:03, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:PBADL logo.png

Thank you for uploading File:PBADL logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Altered speedy deletion rationale: DWCL-TV

Hello WayKurat. I am just letting you know that I deleted DWCL-TV, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided, which didn't fit the page in question. Thank you. GedUK  10:56, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

Hello WayKurat. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Draft:DZLN-TV, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not blatantly vandalism or a hoax. Thank you. creffett (talk) 17:12, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

Talk Page Blocking note

Hi WayKurat,

Taking a TPA-revocation to ANI was probably the right way to do it (as AIV absolutely removes them). The other route is to ask the original blocking admin Nosebagbear (talk) 10:27, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for assistance. I tried that approach before but the blocking admin was inactive at that time. And the vandal is really active that their keep on reverting their profanity laced edits a minute I remove them. -WayKurat (talk) 10:31, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

Reversions

I noticed you reverted/undid a number of infobox changes from User:PrimeBOT as part of the implementation of the redesign and new parameter names. Any specific reason? Raymie (tc) 19:04, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

I'm actually reverting the edits of this user. Most of the edits of that user are hoaxes. The edits made by PrimeBOT overlapped what was added by the vandal. -WayKurat (talk) 21:39, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
Ah, OK. If you have the need to do that again, just remove his changes/parameters from the new template code. Also, you will want to know that |power= and |erp= are now both available to TV articles, just for those transmitter power outputs in the Philippines. :) Raymie (tc) 22:15, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for your help

Thanks for your help with this AFD and the person who blanked it. I've been following that page title through several re-creations now. While it might be a hoax, I haven't seen any evidence of it. Have you seen something specific that screams "hoax" other than lack of references? More likely, it's an editor motivated to promote the topic, either for COI/PAID reasons or for fan-boy/girl reasons. Either way, WP:BMB and once the SPI was confirmed I was going to {{db-banned}} all still-existing creations by this account and ask them to be WP:SALTed, then revert the editor's other edits except in the rare cases where it is better not to.

I was hoping to give the person some WP:ROPE before alerting them to the SPI, to make behavioral evidence stronger. Well, the cat's out of the bag now. Anyhow, thanks for your vigilance. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 01:31, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

Well, it screams like a hoax article because the editor listed a lot of artists in that article, most of them are hired by rival networks. Marian Rivera is an exclusive artist for GMA Network and yet this article claims that this show will air on its rival network ABS-CBN. The editor even added himself as a main character of this show. In addition, ABS-CBN just lost its legislative franchise to air on free TV last May, so it will be impossible for them to air this show in 2022. Also, checking out this article in the fandom websites, I think we are dealing with an editor that has special needs. -WayKurat (talk) 01:37, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

Several pieces actually. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 02:13, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

This is to acknowledge your messages. It's OK if the contents will be redacted to protect their privacy. But what I see is that the editor outed himself. This may be another case that a kid is imagining that he is an artist and created an article for himself to fulfill that fantasy. I've seen a lot of cases of that before (e.g. User:Bertrand101 and User:Brianmagallano). -WayKurat (talk) 02:16, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
There is a difference between someone outing themselves off wiki and the outing being done on Wiki. There have been times when I've asked for oversight when someone outs themselves on-wiki, particularly if they are a new editor who seems a bit on the naive side. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 02:19, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

Use of rollback at Leni Robredo

Hello! I've recently reverted one of your rollbacks, diff 1010759560, since you rolled back a good-faith edit in error. Per WP:ROLLBACKUSE, rollback should be used for obvious vandalism cases (criteria 1), of which that edit was not, or for reverting widespread edits by a misguided editor (per criteria 5), of which 49.147.243.196 is not. Aside from that, I'd like to request you to please remember to use an edit summary (either through manual reversion or with a tool) when rolling back changes which are not cases of obvious vandalism. Editors may interpret the overuse of rollback without an edit summary as misuse of the tool. Thanks! Chlod (say hi!) 05:18, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

Also, when reverting editors for criteria 5, please also issue the appropriate warnings when necessary. A list of warning templates can be found at WP:UWT. Thanks! Chlod (say hi!) 05:19, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

Hello, WayKurat! Why did you reverse the GMA Network in the image which has no valid fair use rationale on all GMA station's article? I've reverted his edited for GMA logo 2011 to the articles since i've already upload the GMA 2011 logo on March 1 because they will similar to ABS-CBN logo 2014 on the network's rival has valid fair use rationale logo in all ABS-CBN TV stations to the articles. Please DON'T do that to reverse back again because I want to edited all articles especially that I reverted it back again since i've reverting GMA Network related articles such as television and radio stations in the Philippines. I hope that i'm interested to be focuses on edited or reverted his articles if some peoples have wrong articles from the Wikipedia. Thank you so much and more power to you WayKurat!

@Boombastic061: You still don't get it. Please read WP:FAIRUSE. You are adding that 2011 logo on every GMA Network TV station article without a valid fair use rationale for them. -WayKurat (talk) 06:25, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
Also, care to explain this edit? Why did you orphaned this image? -WayKurat (talk) 06:28, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

June 2020

Good day! I would like to ask, are all GMA Network related articles such as past and programs no longer included in your watchlist? I asked because, eversince this user (not going to name him but I guess you know who) did the job, you no longer contribute or edit them.

Warmest regards and God Bless.

You don't own those logos, yet you claim they are your work. Logos are not allowed to be uploaded in Commons. Also, please stop adding fake information. I have caught you several times already, even your multiple accounts were already blocked. -WayKurat (talk) 09:31, 16 April 2021 (UTC)

Blocked from editing in Tagalog Wikipedia

Hello WayKurat, I tried editing in the Tagalog Wikipedia but I am not able to do any edit due to an IP user apparently sharing my IP address who was blocked for vandalism. Could you look into this. Thanks.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 00:46, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

What IP address are you using when this happened? -WayKurat (talk) 04:50, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
The prompt says, 180.191.0.0/16.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 08:18, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
@Hariboneagle927: Looks like he basically blanket-blocked everyone from that range lel. Maybe having WayKurat adjust the block to only bar anons from editing would fix things. Blake Gripling (talk) 09:36, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
Actually, the cause of the rangeblock is longtime vandal User:Bertrand101. This is the IP range that he operates. As you can see here, most of the contributions from this IP range came from Bertrand101. Also, the rangeblock is first applied in en.wiki as seen here. This is also why there are no reported Bertrand101 related vandalism for almost a year now. There may be another vandal that operates in this IP range that's why it got rangeblocked here for two years. -WayKurat (talk) 09:49, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

Star FM provincial stations

Hello, WayKurat!

Please helped that Superastig is changed unnecessary about provincial Star FM stations articles still mass-based format to the present like Star FM Manila but it's not true. I really wanted to calling from Star FM Iloilo that Star FM's provincial stations started carrying the slogan "It's All For You" and switched to an Love Songs and Top 40 format since the 1st quarter of 2016 using English and Filipino as it's medium, according to the announced of Bombo Radyo Philippines management. Meanwhile, Star FM Manila only used the current slogan "Like Mo, Share Mo!" and still carried a mass-based format. I've already editing again all provincial Star FM station articles that I mentioned this radio format as of now. Please be informed that DON'T changed unnecessary what did Superastig undid version for it's regional stations anymore. Thank you so much and more power to you!

Boombastic061, you are making things complicated. A mix of Love Songs and Top 40 (and old stuff) are considered adult contemporary and those are the staples of every mass-based station. Even Star FM stations play some old stuff on their regular playlist. I've listened to Star FM Davao during my visit to the city late last last year and it's just like Star FM Manila. Therefore, even if you whine all day long, regardless of slogan or a mix of language they're using, ALL Star FM stations carry a mass-based format. So, be it. Removing Balitang A2Z as the successor of Bandila

HELP! (Long-term abuse: User:Russel641)

A high-threat vandal user named Russel641 has been disruptively damaging all the Wiki articles related to Philippine television (including all the drama series and TV programs aired on ABS-CBN, GMA, and TV5), as well as editing IBC shows too. The user Russel641 is stealth active since late April 2021. Russel is refactoring (editing) talk page comments and warning contents, as well as ignoring all the warning messages from several admins and other users. Currently, I also see that all the articles of ABS-CBN dramas have been edited by Russel641 by adding the "and was replaced by (*name of program*)" signs.

I can't instantly revert all of over 150+ edit contributions of Russel641, so I hope that someone would report that user with perfection and extreme caution. -136.158.42.180 (talk) 08:54, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Reversions without explanation

Hi WayKurat, are you performing reversions in an automated or semi-automated way somehow? How come you're not providing any explanations with any of them? That doesn't help provide new or unexperienced users with very much explanation of what they're doing wrong. On this reversion, for instance, wouldn't it be helpful to explain that the non-free use rationale template needs adding if they want to use an image like this? Iskandar323 (talk) 10:02, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

@Iskandar323: That edit came from a longterm vandal (User:Joshua Saldaña) and the IP is already blocked. This is not a new or an unexperienced user. If you see the the other edits of that IP, you will notice that they add unrelated celebrity photos to Philippine radio and television articles as logos. (see here and here) -WayKurat (talk) 10:44, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
Ok, sorry - I should have checked the IP address! I wasn't quite sure what was going on, though I did see repeat efforts to add the logo, and at no point looking back could I see any note about adding the non-free rationale. Thanks for the explanation. Iskandar323 (talk) 10:50, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

Good day, I would have asked for help because someone proposed a deletion in the article I created, he said no because he is the mayor's son, this is not a basis to say that he is an actor and he doesn't have any significant roles on television. I also have a list of shows and series that he voted for me not to be deleted and someone also helped, I hope you can help me thank you. --7starunited (talk) 13:31, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi! Would it be possible for you to upload this and this so that Chris Banchero's and Jio Jalalon's articles could have their pictures? DWKC-TV

Spotted this... Is the intent to move the page to DWKC-DTV? Is it the case that, when a TV station down there starts in digital, the call sign change should be reflected in the article? Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 19:25, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

@Sammi Brie: I'm really not sure if this station have officially migrated to DTV since I rarely watch over the air television lately. Also, the users that tried to move this article seems to based it when DWCP-TV migrated to all-digital in 2019, but as far as I know, there is no official word from the Philippines' National Telecommunications Commission that the station callsigns should be changed if they migrated from analog to digital. -WayKurat (talk) 09:24, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, I can tell the NTC isn't the greatest at supplying info. I was going through pages and found ABS-CBN Sports and Action Koronadal (DXAR-TV)... Why was there no associated call sign? (If it did not air local programming at all, this should be redirected to the main S+A page.) Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 20:50, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
The station's supposed callsign is DXAR-TV. A quick Google search turns out that ABS-CBN Sports and Action Koronadal (DXAR-TV) and DXAR-TV are the same station. Both use the same channel designation (channel 24) and according to this list from 2016, there is only one TV station in Koronadal that uses the DXAR-TV callsign. There are a lot of this kind of articles created carelessly by other editors in the past years. -WayKurat (talk) 05:27, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
If DXAR-TV was a relay that produced no local programs, it should be redirected somewhere else (to the most local/regional station it rebroadcast). Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 07:18, 30 January 2022 (UTC)

DXKO-TV

Why does a cable channel have an article? Was this once a broadcast station? (Spotted this while doing more automated edit work and wanted to follow up and figure out if it's even notable.) Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 21:49, 30 January 2022 (UTC)

It carried programming from a cable channel (Jack City) but it now carries CNN Philippines, which is available locally over the air in other locations. I'll just remove the confusing parts. Most of them were added by anon IP addresses that have no idea what their writing. -WayKurat (talk) 00:17, 31 January 2022 (UTC)
So there's no broadcast license/franchise, just a slot on a local cable system? (Is the call sign NTC-assigned or fake?) Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 01:15, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
This is a real TV station, just so happened that they aired a cable channel at some point in time. This is similar on what happened to the other RPN TV stations before they aired CNN Philippines. -WayKurat (talk) 02:33, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
Ah, OK. That infobox led me straight astray. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 02:38, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

File:PBA Commissioner Mariano Yenko.jpg

Hi WayKurat. The non-free use rationale you provided for File:PBA Commissioner Mariano Yenko.jpg states that Yenko died in the late 1980s; however, there is nothing about his death in Mariano Yenko. How do you know he's dead? Did you find a reliable source somewhere that states as much per WP:BDP? Currently, the article is still listed as a BLP which means the infobox image you uploaded is getting flagged for WP:FREER issues. If you know of sources that can be used to verify Yenko's death and such information can be added to the article, then that would help clarify the file's non-free use. "Probably dead" or "likely dead" aren't generally considered acceptable reasons for justifying non-free use per FREER or item 1 of WP:NFC#UUI; so, the longer the article remains a BLP, the greater the chance there is of the file being tagged for deletion for WP:F7 reasons. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:33, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: Commissioner Yenko has been dead from the late 80s or 90s. I can't find a first hand source that mentions his death but there is an article about his former deputy commissioner (Tommy Manotoc) that mentions "the late Mariano Yenko" (see here). -WayKurat (talk) 06:49, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for that. I also found this from 2011. I've asked about this at WT:NFCC#Indirect claims of death and FREER, and perhaps these two mentions are enough for WP:NFCCP purposes. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:24, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
