You are correct that that is seen in a lot of articles. That alone is not a very good reason to do something – a lot of not-so-good stuff becomes widespread because editors believe it is. The practice is strongly opposed by some experienced editors who think it sounds fairly ridiculous to repeat the article title in the first sentence when it is not an iconic name like Oklahoma City bombing. Very few of these mass-killing events ever acquire such widely-known names, and it's not Wikipedia's job to create them via that practice. Not saying you should stop doing that, but wanted you to be aware of the controversy so you're not completely surprised when you get reverted. Happy editing. ―Mandruss ☎ 07:19, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

van Asch now part of Ko Taku Reo edit
I notice you edited the article about the van Asch Deaf Education Centre to say it has closed. Where do you obtain this information from? Please cite your source for the closure announcement so this can be verified. The Minister of Education said the Deaf Education Centres would merge into a national school, not close, and the history of van Asch strongly suggests it has become a residential part of Ko Taku Reo as well as providing other support services. Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay edit
Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.
Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.
