Pepsi

I wasn't the one who claimed that this product had been discontinued. These are the changes I made; you'll note that there's nothing about Pepsi Vanilla.

I think that you saw this comparison and assumed that the text in red was mine because I was the most recent person to have edited the article- wrong!

All I put in was a sentence about "12939 supplies"- the Vanilla thing came from an earlier version which "my" version added to. I didn't write that, and I'm not responsible for it. It showed up because you'd removed it from the next version.

Also, can you please create an account if you wish to discuss stuff like this. Having to communicate via a "pretend user" talk page tied to one's Internet address is inconvenient and unreliable. Ubcule (talk) 13:56, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Anadin

Hi, I placed the reference tag on Anadin because the sources you provided are primary (both company websites). Whilst it is true that they are unlikely to be misleading ideally wikipedia sources should be third party sources. Try searching anadin on google news. A couple of articles that could be used can be found e.g [1] [2]. These could also be used to present a more neutral point of view in the article. Let me know if you have any further queries. How would I know who the author is? I wasn't the original uploader.

As the original uploader claims to be the copyright holder, it's probable that they're the author, but that's not 100% guaranteed.

Re: Gumby images

Thanks for your note re: the Monty Python Gumby images. I'm aware that increasing the size above the image's existing resolution doesn't increase the detail. I simply felt the images were a bit small (smaller than they really needed to be for fair use concerns -- I think a width of about 300 is generally considered to be a reasonable maximum, depending on the image) and that the small amount of distortion created by over-sizing them was worth the improvement in presentation size. I played around with various sizes until I found what I thught was a happy medium. No big deal, though, YMMV. fui (talk) 21:08, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Commodore 16

Hi there,

I saw you posted something about me on Commodore 16 page on Feb 2011. The history is simple, I founded in an old bookcase some old ads and manuals about the Old commodore computer sold in a supermarket near my home in Mexico. I saw that none page of wikipedia talk about that, so I did opened the section "mexico" and posted what I found. Then you started to made my life a HELL. You claims that I lie at any costs and my ads and manuals are fake. I did post by accident the ad to wikipedia commons and you went to tell me that he was going to delete the file and you did it.

I'm not a liar and can show the scans to these ads and manuals to anybody, but I'm tired of defend my material of people like you. I'm tired and I regret to think that I could add this info to wikipedia. I just want to delete my info of this place and the material I did post. So please I'll try to delete the info about mexico in commodore 16 and keep it deleted please. You all won "commodore never made computers in mexico" despite I have the manuals and ads in my hands.

This is *blatantly* untrue. Anyone looking at the Commodore 16 article page history, its talk page, and my talk page (here)- the only places we have ever talked- can see that your accusation above is ridiculous and unfair.

I was concerned that you had posted a *lot* of information without citing it and added some tags. I removed some material that I thought was irrelevant to the subject. And we discussed some of this. We disagreed over some details, I made a few minor changes. Most of your info is still there, and I was happy with it.

Then 8 months later(!!!) you come along and start making hysterical and baseless accusations.

I did *not* say anything like that.

I simply requested more citation (see WP:CITE) so we could see if your information source was reliable or not- this is standard for Wikipedia.

Commons was the wrong place for it (it was "fair use", not "free"). So to be helpful I moved it back to Wikipedia for you and it is still here (see [:File:Concurso Commodore Aurrera 1a FAIR USE ONLY.jpg]).

It was removed from Commons because I knew it was safe at Wikipedia!! I added a comment to notify admins so that both copies were *not* deleted (i.e. make sure that there is at least one).

Ironically, the picture almost got automatically deleted recently after *you* removed the "Mexico" section from the article- this was because the image was no longer in use. That part was entirely *your* fault, not mine!!

In every case here, it is either an ordinary disagreement or you have misunderstood something I was doing in an effort to help.

But to be honest, I should not have to defend myself against this unpleasant accusation and name-calling just because you got the wrong end of the stick.

Request for help

Hello Ubcule. I am wondering if you can work your image cropping magic on the picture in the James Earl Jones infobox. That KGB1 license plate is from something but I can't remember what and the page for the image doesn't seem to have any info about it. I find it distracting (as you found the carrot juice and sign in the Colin Baker pic) and I think the infobox would be better without it. However that is just my opinion and if you disagree or you aren't inclined to change it there is no obligation whatsoever. Thanks for you time and cheers. I've uploaded a new version to Wikimedia Commons and included it in some articles:- File:James Earl Jones 2010 Crop.jpg.

To be honest, although his facial expression come out well in that photo- and it's quite good in some respects- there are some problems with the large amount of almost featureless dark clothing taking up much of the picture. However, because of how he's sitting, if I was to crop it further to focus on his face, it'd possibly look like he was being punched. So I left it with just the basic crop you asked for. :-)

BTW, most photo-editing tools will allow you to do basic cropping like this, if you're interested.

What I mean is that it's one of those "off-the-shelf" chunks of pre-written warning text that can be placed onto someone's page simply by typing a template reference like {{test2}}. (You can try this out in your sandbox).

Boilerplate in general refers to large-ish chunks of standardised text used repeatedly in identical or very similar form.

Red Dwarf disambig line redirect

Ah, sorry about that edit! Before making it, I did briefly try to find out if it was preferable to avoid redirects in the About template, and if it was appropriate for it to contain an un-piped link to an article's #-subsection. But the main place I checked was the documentation of Template:About; I knew that MOS:Disambig applies to disambiguation pages, but I didn't realise that its guidelines also apply to the About template. Quite the contrary- I'm well aware of Clive James and the Japanese show Endurance, and I've never seen- nor care about- the US show!

Simple explanation- I had changed the Endurance (television) redirect to point to the US show for reasons of consistency. (*) However, this would have led to existing uses of the redirect (including yours) intending the Japanese show to get the US show instead, so it was obviously my job to patch that up.

I knew very well that you wouldn't have wanted a link to the US show, that's why I changed it. Hope this explains things.

(*) Obvious question- why did I change the redirect in the first place? Answer- Because differentiating the US and Japanese shows with "Endurance (TV show)" and "Endurance (television)" was non-intuitive. The answer's actually boringly simple. :-) On almost any page, you can go into the "Toolbox" menu (at the left-hand side), click "What links here" and it'll show you all links to that page.

Examples:-

Your page was listed as one of the few users of that link- that's the only reason I knew about it.

FWIW, the reason I was doing that in the first place was that I'd repointed the "Endurance (television)" redirect page. Any existing uses of that redirect- intended to link to the Japanese TV series- would instead have gone to the unrelated US TV series. Since I was the one that made the change, it was also my job to patch this up.

Proposed deletion of Magic Fly

Thank you for the boilerplate notifying me that "my" article Magic Fly was going to be deleted. The only problem is that *I* didn't create an article at all... I created that *page* as a redirect, nothing more. That was later replaced with an actual article by someone else!

The logical conclusion here is that even if the article was deleted, it should be reverted to the original redirect.

This is the second time I've been in this exact position, and it definitely illustrates a flaw in the notification protocol- the "true" creator of the article hasn't been notified at all

FWIW, do you use an automated tool such as Twinkle to nominate such pages?

Sorry for the misattribution. Converted back to a redirect. I'm happy for you to write a sourced article (I have no idea of the actual notability of the topic, only the state of the article when I saw it). My usual practice is to patrol Category:Uncategorized_pages and categorise (and often do some other minor improvement) on each article. I use Wikipedia:HotCat for categories and Wikipedia:Twinkle for other things. Stuartyeates (talk) 23:22, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

Maybe I should have been clearer, but I wasn't asking for it to be converted back to a redirect (and nor do I think I had the right to do that). I meant that *if* it was to be deleted, then the redirect should be restored (rather than the thing being removed altogether).

In fact- as I mentioned- I was in the middle of adding the requested refs when I saw that you had edited it at the same time. To be honest, I think it would have been better to let the PROD run its course- even if the reversion technically wasn't a "deletion", it was to most intents and purposes.

8-Track Tape edit

Hi Ubcule

I've noticed you have removed my edit in 8-track tape quoting the following "Uncited and very dubious assertion (see talk page) by anonymous editor with questionable record removed. (Even if a few were sold, they were *not* "very" nor even "moderately" popular in the UK).)" I had posted this from a shared network, and looking back have realised that someone has been warned several times for posting rubbish / vandalism from the this I.P. The changes I have made have all been in good faith, and have been Red Rose Speedway, 2x Bedford Vehicles, Bert Trautmann, and Bedford CA. All of these are cited and factually accurate. I have now applied for a username to solve the I.P. issue. On the issue of 8-Track tape, the article states that "It was popular in the United States from the mid-1960s through to the early 1980s, but was relatively unknown in many European countries" There is no source for this statement, and although it may be the case for European countries in general, I am of an age where I remember the format being widely used in the UK. There was intense rivalry between the 8 Track and compact cassette formats in the early seventies, which eventually ended in the demise of 8 track for the reasons quoted in the article, but certainly for several years music was sold in the UK in equal numbers on 8 track and cassettes for in-car use. I cannot provide evidence for this, and am not sure even where to look, but equally there is no source cited for the "relatively unknown in many European countries" or indeed for your assertion that "Even if a few were sold, they were *not* "very" nor even "moderately" popular in the UK," As I have already stated, the edit was made in good faith, and also in the interests of accuracy, as I clearly remember the format not being exclusively a US phenomenon. Nice one with the redirect. But shouldn't they have an article really? They pass WP:BAND on at least two counts - one of the singles got to #2 in Holland and they got their '"multiple, non-trivial, published works"' in the form of numerous Melody Maker pieces (mostly as part of Romo) and some NME coverage too. 86.178.246.248 (talk) 16:45, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

They may well deserve their own article, but for my money it would have to be expanded beyond the length of the the current (brief) article section for this to be worthwhile (else it'd just be a stub article of material that loses the context of the parent article).

If you want to write the article, you're certainly welcome to. You'd have to be logged in under an account to do that, but if you don't have an account (or want to do it anonymously (*)), you could always submit it via Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation.

(*) Well, it's not really anonymous, since your IP is still displayed, and since you can create an account without providing personal details- which hides your IP from non-administrators- that's probably preferable. Though I can't remember off the top of my head if newly-registered users can create new articles.

I regret that I can only delete the text rather than actually punishing whoever put that garbage into an encyclopedia. And it's been there since the first version. The image *definitely* isn't mine(!), and doesn't claim (nor imply) to be- it's a link to an external non-Wikimedia site (and shows up as such). The majority of external links point to non-freely-licensed content. Since you seem to think it's misleading- and the joke has now been made- I've removed it, but just because someone might "demand" something doesn't mean they'll get anything more than an explanation of how Wikipedia links work. (^_^)

Nikon F90

Hi, I have been reading some of the Nikon articles. I noticed that you contributed significantly to Nikon F90 This article and others seem to give a different evolutionary lineage than is implied by the common chart posted at most of the articles. I collect Nikons and have many of these cameras. I'm trying to figure out the evolution of the 35mm AF series, especially the upper end cameras and fill-in the cameras missing from my collection. Here are a few of my nicer AFs: [5] The main collection is at [6] BTW, these are available for free use on WP, and I'm happy to provide a release. I'm not writing much at WP but fully support the project as I can.

MOSDAB

You may have been mistaken in a recent edit summary when you cited WP:MOSDAB. That guideline doesn't apply to Set index articles, where the relevant guideline is Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Stand-alone lists ( WP:SAL ).

I only mention it in case you find the alternative link helpful. It allows much more flexibility than MOSDAB.

I actually agree with your edit: in hindsight I think there were too many wikilinks in the ScotRail set index article.
