Morris Oxford bullnose much much better image edit

Thank you very much indeed for the filtering it is so very much clearer -

But now like the image above it it has either been stretched vertically or compressed horizontally. I asked at Wikimedia about this and the pundits all said there is nothing wrong with the image! Because the change has just happened to this other image with your revision I wondered if you might know what is going on. If its any help I use a Mac running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5. Thanks and best regards, Eddaido (talk) 08:59, 1 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

I don't know much about Macs as I use Windows.
Are you saying the problem only appears on the new (revised) version? It's been saved as a "Gray" mode JPEG which might cause a problem with your Mac.
Does it appear twice as high as you'd expect normally? Ubcule (talk) 19:21, 1 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Smurfing (online gaming) edit

Hello Ubcule,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Smurfing (online gaming) for deletion, because it seems to be an article that was previously deleted by a consensus decision.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Hama Dryad (talk · contribs · email) 14:13, 5 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi H.dryad; Contested because- as described at Talk:Smurfing (online gaming)- "Content isn't mine (I just moved it while tidying up a dab page), but I wouldn't have recreated a previously-deleted page if the same issues had applied. In this case, the "not notable, no sources" used in the discussion against the old version doesn't apply. This incarnation one has at least one reputable source". Ubcule (talk) 17:00, 5 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
I was going mainly for the fact that it had been deleted by consensus before. If you think this no longer applies, then you're good. Cheers! Hama Dryad (talk · contribs · email) 18:01, 5 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
No problem; further discussion at Talk:Smurfing (online gaming). Ubcule (talk) 18:53, 5 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Given Mhlanga edit

Are you suggesting that it's a G11-type of spam, or if not, can you give me a bright-line definition of when it's blatant misuse? The policy specifically says that Administrators should take care not to speedy delete pages or media except in the most obvious cases, and this doesn't look obvious to me. Charlie Woods image edit

Ubule thank you for your comments ion the image of Charlie Wood. I suspect that your copyright comments are completely correct about the Charlie Woodsimage. I have had it for many years in a scrap book because Charlie Woods is actually member of my family! Regards Gairderek — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gairderek (talkcontribs)

@Gairderek: If I remember correctly, that was an image I marked as non-free because it appeared to have come from a newspaper, but still appeared recent enough not to be out of copyright?
Yep; unfortunately in cases like that the newspaper usually owns the copyright in the original image, regardless of who copies it (even if it's someone you know). Ubcule (talk) 18:01, 18 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ways to improve Prince regent (disambiguation) edit

Hi, I'm Iazyges. Ubcule, thanks for creating Prince regent (disambiguation)!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Good job.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 00:39, 24 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Iazyges:; I'd normally reply here, but in this case I've left a longer explanation at your talk page instead.
To keep it short; the lack of links aren't a problem, because it's a disambiguation page, not an article- we try to avoid linking directly to those excpet where navigationally useful. Ubcule (talk) 17:54, 24 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Disambig Page for Lebanon edit

Wow, that edit was a long time ago. Totally forgot about that. I know it was a bit unorthodox for a disambiguation page, but I remember looking into WP policies then (and now, that you mentioned it), and couldn't find anything about not including additional info, like the description or picture, that might be helpful or interesting. Since it didn't obscure the purpose or function of the disambiguation page, I didn't really see why it shouldn't be in there. Is there a policy that I missed? Harassment edit

Stop harassing me. You don't get to continually paste my words all over Wikipedia. If you want to begin a new conversation on an article talk page feel free but you do NOT get to use my text to harass me all over Wikipedia. If you do it again I will report you for harassment. ThaddeusSholto (talk) 21:37, 20 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

@ThaddeusSholto: Why haven't you done so already?
I was the one who'd suggested you do exactly that in the first place. (*) Not because I agree with your allegation- quite the opposite, I consider it baseless. But it's a serious accusation, and if you genuinely believed that I'm somehow "harassing" you, I would rather have this matter aired and resolved properly, and given a proper chance to defend myself.
While I have no interest in interacting with you more than necessary, I also have no intention of being "scared off" from the content dispute which sparked this problem merely because you took (what I considered) legitimate criticism and discussion as an "attack" and started making accusations of "harassment" in response to my attempt to move an increasingly partisan discussion to a more neutral venue.
(*) You must have been aware of this comment since you removed it from your talk page before posting here. So what *exactly* is your point?

Hey! edit

I saw you created redirects for Storm Corrie and Storm Malik. However, you misspelled #REDIRECT as #REDRECT on both of those. Are you copy/pasting something, because if so, you should fix that typo before creating more redirects. Thanks! Skarmory (talk • contribs) 23:55, 29 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Skarmory: The only thing that was cut and pasted was the manually-typed first redirect for the second and third ones; if it had been taken from elsewhere, or any of my previous edits, it wouldn't have had that mistake in it(!)
Thanks for spotting that and making the corrections. Ubcule (talk) 12:07, 30 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@SunDawn: - Thanks, but I can't take credit for it, as I didn't create the article itself. While I technically created the *page*, it was only as a brief redirect to another page.
It was Mobius Gerig (talk · contribs) who did so when they converted the redirect into a proper article (and deserves the credit).
Thanks anyway, and all the best!

Birds of a Feather (US band) moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Birds of a Feather (US band), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. TheWikiholic (talk) 13:34, 3 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@TheWikiholic: - Good grief, I was literally right in the middle of moving someone else's inappropriately-placed content elsewhere and tidying it up so that it *does* meet the standards for an article and you had to jump in three minutes(!!) after its creation, during which time it had already been edited (and- by implication- was still being worked on).
Yes, perhaps I should have signposted that more blatantly in the edit summary, but it's almost never been a problem in the past. Most people in your position usually exhibit common sense and don't jump on stuff like this until it's clearly been left as-is (i.e. editor has moved on, several hours have passed, etc.)
Or are you suggesting that no newly-created articles are permitted to be worked on in stages (i.e. as multiple edits)?
Perhaps you could try being a bit less overzealous next time, and avoid wasting your time and mine. Ubcule (talk) 13:53, 3 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Katsu curry edit

This is probably more a discussion for the talk page, but I don't think it's our place to say what is "inaccurate" or not. Kombucha has nothing to do with the original Japanese kelp tea, do we need a hatnote on the page here to say so? Jpatokal (talk) 02:55, 14 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Jpatokal: (Replying here as the discussion was transferred from your talk page to mine and I prefer to keep it in one place)
My main concern was with the existence (or otherwise) of the dab hatnote full stop. If it's there and sufficiently clear, that's probably okay.
While I'm not sure that I agree with you over that aspect of the wording, it's a minor detail and not one I feel strongly enough about to bother disputing(!)
