Please block both the account and IP address of the user , User:175.41.46.50(talk) and User:Dibosh Chakma(talk). Also please help me to semi-protect some wikipedia due to Vandalism.

Hi.Please help me! The user, User:175.41.46.50(talk) edited in Vandalism in many military articles of Myanmar(Examples: List of equipment of the Myanmar Army,Myanmar Air Force,List of equipment in the Myanmar Navy, etc). Not only Vandalism,he removed the verifiable and reliable links without giving any reason. You can search in his edited history,if you don't believe. Not only him, the user, User:Dibosh Chakma(talk) also did like the first person. Please help me to block their accounts and IP addresses for further Vandalism.

And also help me to semi-protect some wikipedia articles due to vandalism of some users. The articles,List of equipment of the Myanmar Army,Myanmar Air Force,List of equipment in the Myanmar Navy,Myanmar Directorate of Defence Industries are faced with Vandalism made by some user like User:Dibosh Chakma(talk),User:175.41.46.50(talk) and some anonymous users. Please help me to semi-protect that articles with only the extended comfirmed users and administrators can edit them. Thar thar lay(military observer) (talk) 09:28, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

Sorry for my low English skill. Thar thar lay(military observer) (talk) 09:29, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

@Thar thar lay(military observer):, I recommend you make requests at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection to protect the pages. 175.41.46.50 is already blocked and I have also blocked User:Dibosh Chakma temporarily. Best, SpencerT•C 22:19, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

I searched and read Wikipedia:Requests for page protection article. But,I don't understand the steps to request for page protection.I saw the following two forms but I don't know what I must fill and what page do I request with one of this.

Semi-protection for a year: High level of IP vandalism by many users from Bangladesh including User:Dibosh Chakma(talk) , User:175.41.46.50(talk) , etc. They removed the links which are provided in the article, removed the number without giving any reason, etc. Please protect this article. Thar thar lay(military observer) (talk) 09:13, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

The above form that I fill is an example for.Is it correct in filling? If it correct please tell me what article do I fill like that. Thar thar lay(military observer) (talk) 09:32, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

It looks correct to me. Include links to all the articles that are affected and that you think need protection. SpencerT•C 17:21, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for your helping. Now,I completely understand about the request for page protect.Have a nice day. Thar thar lay(military observer) (talk) 03:10, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Rules and conditions

Hi, I would like to ask if it is okay to edit content I find that is out of date? I went ahead and just did this with one University and will keep updating more if I find that it is acceptable. I always cite my work. Thanks in advance, RichyOrozco (talk) 23:52, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

Yes, that is correct. Don't forget to cite your sources, as you have already been doing with your update edits. Cheers, SpencerT•C 00:04, 19 November 2020 (UTC)

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:34, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Today @ITNRD

Hi Spencer, I was debating if I should let you know of this, I went back and deleted my message. [1] But, I have been thinking that it is better to let you know. I have only respect for what you do here, but, this action of yours was in haste. It gave the impression of a 'Super Admin' vote that is more powerful than anything else. What made it even more painful was that an article right above this one (introduced much earlier) was ready for over 12 hours and had been marked as ready for a subset of that time. But, that one was ignored. Hope you will take this post of mine as constructive feedback. Wanted to get this one off my chest. Ktin (talk) 20:33, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi @Ktin:, thank you for the message. My apologies, I was interrupted by real life happenings as I was reviewing ITN/C nominations and I had to step away from my computer. Based on previous feedback, I review noms from bottom-up to make sure there aren't older things that are being missed, and I never made it all the way up the page on ITN/C . I assure you I do my best to not ignore nominations, and I realize a lot of hard work goes into these articles. Feedback taken, but I ask you to assume good faith and realize that editors have other things going on in their lives. At the end of the day, ITN/C needs frequent admin help, and I'm sorry I can't be constantly available. Best, SpencerT•C 23:10, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
Spencer, Thanks much Spencer. Definitely appreciate all that you do. Onwards and upwards! Ktin (talk) 23:32, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
@Spencer:. Thanks much for posting James Wolfensohn to WP:ITNRD. You might have inadvertently missed giving credits post the posting. Please can you go ahead and have this completed at your convenience. Ktin (talk) 19:35, 26 November 2020 (UTC)

Hello Spencer, Just to inform you that 73.162.181.61 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) is again inserting unsourced information on the Hal Moore page. You recently blocked them for a short time for the same reason and article. Regards, David, David J Johnson (talk) 17:42, 17 January 2021 (UTC)

ITN recognition for Cicely Tyson

On 2 February 2021, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Cicely Tyson, which you updated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. —Bagumba (talk) 09:06, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

A bit of an expedited request

Gina Carano needs semi-protection (longer than last time?), there's a report at RFPP but given the usual response time I figured contacting an active admin might help faster. Cheers, RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 04:37, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Greetings

Hi Spencer, pardon the intrusion. In your recent posting of Isadore Singer to homepage at WP:ITNRD, you might have inadvertently missed giving credits. Please can I request that at your convenience. Thanks. Ktin (talk) 00:13, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

There really should be some kind of script that allows for easy posting: between changing the header, adding a "posted" message, doing the credits and posting the item, there's inevitably some that I miss. Some kind of one-click tool (especially for RDs) would be very useful. At least now there are the easy credits posting buttons, rather than copy/pasting the template from WP:ITN! SpencerT•C 00:15, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
Spencer, Spencer, I have been meaning to ask someone this one. Where can I get an introduction to scripting / bots etc.? Though I have gone away from the coding world for some years now, I still want to think that I can get my hands dirty and try something. Appreciate any leads. Ktin (talk) 00:24, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
I just discovered Wikipedia:User scripts/Requests and was about to make a request there. Maybe that would have more info? I'll still go ahead and make the request, but maybe others with more experience can share ideas. SpencerT•C 00:26, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
Spencer, Perfect. Sounds good. This should definitely be possible. E.g. the DYK folks have some bot that goes and does that credit posting thingie. Ktin (talk) 00:27, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
There is a bot that does our talk page credits, but I wonder if the issue is somehow obtaining the info from ITN/C? SpencerT•C 00:29, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
Spencer, that's the one that adds that "this page appeared on ITN" banner thingie? I have seen Martin be a knowledgeable person about these topics as well. Might be worth checking with them as well? i.e. while you post on these groups for sure. Ktin (talk) 00:33, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
Tagging MSGJ as well. Cheers. Ktin (talk) 00:41, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
Request made at Wikipedia:User_scripts/Requests#Script_for_admins_posting_"recent_death"_items_to_Template:In_the_news. SpencerT•C 00:48, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

IP;73.162.181.61

Hello Spencer, To inform you that the IP you recently blocked 73.162.181.61 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) is again adding unsourced material on the Hal Moore page. They seem to take no notice of of warnings or recent blocks. Perhaps a longer block is needed? Regards, David J Johnson (talk) 14:00, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

Please put Rush Limbaugh back on RD

Hi, Spencer.

I don't believe you had any warrant to remove Rush Limbaugh's name from RD.

Aren't the oldest removed first?

Thanks.

--71.241.227.125 (talk) 02:48, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

PS: the discussion was about a blurb for Rush, not whether his name should be removed from RD.

PPS: there are two people listed who died on the 13th. Rush died on the 17th. Please remove one of them and put Rush back on. Aren't the ones who died earlier supposed to come off the list first?

Thanks again. I know you're busy.

--71.241.227.125 (talk) 02:59, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

Items are no longer posted by recency, but any RD from the past 7 days can be posted, and are bumped off by newly posted items, regardless of date of death. Thus, the turnover of items at RD has drastically increased. Please review the WT:ITN archives, such as Wikipedia_talk:In_the_news/Archive_81#RD_turnover, for changes that were made late last year regarding the posting process. The most recent discussion regarding this can be found here: Wikipedia_talk:In_the_news#recent-deaths_Limited-time_Experiment_Requested. Regards, SpencerT•C 04:14, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Thank you again, Spencer. I guess I don't understand the process. It seems a little too random to me. --71.241.227.125 (talk) 02:52, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
I guess I answered the "why" without answering the "how". That information can be found here: Wikipedia:In_the_news/Recent_deaths#Procedure (This is more admin instructions, but if you wanted further info). For the background discussion, I think this is the oldest discussion in the archives: Wikipedia_talk:In_the_news/Archive_80#Proposed_change:_RDs_roll_off_in_the_order_they_are_posted. Hope this provides some additional information. SpencerT•C 17:35, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

News Blurb

I think they wanted List of heads of the Serbian Orthodox Church pipe linked as the article with Serbian Orthodox Church being the link name, instead of general Serbian Orthodox Church to specify the subject matter. Also I think the mars picture seemed mmore prevalent and should be listed first I would think?OyMosby (talk) 14:50, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

I wasn't involved with the posting of this item. Typically WP:ERRORS or WP:ITN/C is the best place to bring up this type of issue, since I'm not very familiar with the current discussions. For images, typically the image of the most recently posted (top item on the template) is used to reduce confusion. SpencerT•C 17:37, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
Gotcha! New to the whole front page news cycle. Do you know how often it cycles new events?OyMosby (talk) 18:08, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
It honestly really varies. When there are a lot of items (e.g. Nobel Prize postings), it goes quite quickly. Other times, items can stay up for a couple of weeks (but that tends to be rarer). SpencerT•C 18:17, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
I see you got involved now though.... It seems people were in favor of the NASA image but you changed it? I get your logic of newest news being pictured but should global weight be taken into account? Mind you I was a strong proponent of the new Patriarch being included on the page. The Image seems a bit far. Especially it being an old image from 2012. Anayway thw news will probably change today.OyMosby (talk) 16:08, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
I think you may be confusing me with someone else? I wasn't involved with image changes or the associated discussion. SpencerT•C 16:28, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
I’m a frantic mess this morning with RL things. Sorry for the confusion. I probably shouldn’t be on Wikipedia today lol. Stay well, OyMosby (talk) 17:10, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
