{{Greater Manchester-stub}}

Hi - it has come to our notice that you have recently created a new stub type. As it clearly states at WP:STUB, at the top of most stub categories, on the template page for new Wikiprojects and in many other places on Wikipedia, new stub types should be proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies, and whether better use could be made of a WikiProject-specific talk page template.

In the case of your new stub type, it duplicates the long-established {{Manchester-geo-stub}} and is not named according to stub naming guidelines, both due to the space in the name, the use of the unnecessary qualifier "Greater", and the lack of the indicator that it is for geography articles. Your new stub type is currently listed for deletion at WP:SFD. Please, in future, propose new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 02:31, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Helpme request

{{helpme}} I created User:SunStar Net/Talkheader, but am finding it hard to use the ParserFunctions so that it can be either:

{{User:SunStar Net/Talkheader|1st parameter}}
{{User:SunStar Net/Talkheader|1st parameter|2nd parameter}}
{{User:SunStar Net/Talkheader|small=yes|Include text here.}} for smaller type
{{User:SunStar Net/Talkheader|header=Header text|Include text here.}} for an aditional header

If anyone can fix it for me, or have any code for it (put it in the <pre></pre> tags), I'd appreciate the help! Thanks, --sunstar nettalk 14:23, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I tried by copying and slightly modifying the template you copied from (probably). I'll test here:

Picture help

SunStar - thanks for the welcome. I've created a page for Jane Heap, including an image which I think will be fine even for Wikipedia. Trouble is, I can't figure out how to make the image to sit snugly on the right, while the rest of the text fits around it. What obvious thing am I missing? --Quywompka 21:46, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Is it wrong to put two stub templates on an article, as I did with Cox Green (an article I created}?? --sunstar nettalk 10:40, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Hello sunstar net. From WP:Stub#Categorizing stubs:

If an article overlaps a number of potential categories, more than one stub template may be used, [emphasis added] but it is strongly recommended that only those relating to the subject's main notability be used.

Hope this helps! —XhantarTalk 10:48, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Image size {{uw-move4}}

Hi there, I saw you changed the image size on the above warning. If you look here you'll see it's now out of step with all the other warnings. I'm sure you did it for a good reason, but if there's a good reason that the image size needs to be increased ,lets talk about doing it for all of them, instead of just one. I'd suggest if you don't mind reverting it for now and bringing it up on WT:UTM? Whaddya think? Cheers Khukri 14:25, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Nuvola apps important.svg.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Nuvola apps important.svg.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 15:07, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

How do you "delete to make way for a move"?? In the deletion log I've seen the following edit summary: (Deleted to make way for move)

I'd also like to know how to fix cut-and-paste moves, if anyone can find any for me to fix, I'd appreciate it! Thanks, --sunstar nettalk 12:18, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Both of these are abilities only available to administrators. To 'delete to make way for a move', an administrator just uses the 'move' function as normal, and the target page is deleted; if you want to request a move like that, place {{db-move|name of page to move from}} on the page you want to move to. To fix a cut-and-paste move, the admin deletes the new article, moves the old article on top of it, and then undeletes the new article (so both histories are in the same place). To request a history merge (to fix a cut-and-paste move), place {{db-histmerge|old article}} on the new article. I hope that helps! --ais523 12:38, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

How can sysops unblock an IP that isn't blocked?? I've seen in the block logs:

when I expected it to be more like:

Is this a new software feature??

Thanks, --sunstar nettalk 16:53, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Hello, SunStar Net. Hmm. I guess the easy answer is "they can't", but I'm not an admin so it's quite possible that I simply don't know what I'm talking about :-)
A few observations might be in order, though. First, that IP doesn't look like something that would/should show up in the list of active blocks, if that's where you got it from. Or did you actually just use 0.0.0.0 as an example?
I also couldn't find any mention of blocks here or here, although I suspect those only show blocks, and not unblocks.
Would it be possible for you to show exactly where you saw these logs? I'll leave your {{helpme}} up, for now, in case someone stumbles along that might know. In the meantime, you might try asking at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical) as well. —XhantarTalk 00:05, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Reporting problematic usernames

You've reported some usernames to WP:AIV, but without giving specific objections. They've been sent over to WP:RFCN for discussion. Would you care to join the discussions and give your reasons there? For instance, what was wrong with "St. Elmo's Gym", which could refer to the gymnasium at St Elmo's School for Girls, the fictional school in "The Four Marys"? We'd allow "Hogwarts Gym", wouldn't we? -- Ben 17:10, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Happy early birthday a few days early. Also, new sources have been brought up in the DRV. If you could take a second look it would be appreciated. Also, I'd be happy to nominate you for adminship whenever you want to run again. JoshuaZ 19:31, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

FYI, You changed your position to overturn on the DRV but appear not to have struck out or noted this on your first comment to endorse. JoshuaZ 18:14, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

RFCN

Hi, you reported Authorised Hijacker for an inappropriate user name. I don't really mind whether it is or is not accepted, but could you tell me why you didn't follow WP:U and ask the guy to change his name first, and wait a reasonable time for a response, rather than submit an RFC? Please do this in future. Proto  18:25, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

In the Conservapedia deletion review you now are voting to endorse the deletion and to overturn the deletion. I think you may have wanted to strike out your endorse the deletion position. You also may want to put your position changes next to each other. -- Jreferee 20:06, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

DRV of Nicked!

The title has been used as recently as last week to create a vandalized page. The DRV close is to unprotect as soon as you have a draft article ready. Please write at a user subpage, and then ask me or any other admin to move it into place. (You are going to have to watch it like a hawk though, given the history.) If you ask another admin, point them either at this diff or the DRV, or both. GRBerry 04:48, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Is it considered a conflict of interest to participate in a deletion debate relating to a website campaign/petition you have participated in, even if only once and then never again after??

The reason I ask, is, to avoid accusations of conflict of interest in deletion debates. --sunstar nettalk 09:09, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

A debate is just that, people with different views putting their two cents in, if you have a view, you should feel free to express the view, while also noting that you have a COI, a deletion debate is not totally votes after all, the person who closes the debate will weigh all sides of an arguement made, a strong vote on one side is only one aspect, the reasons behind the debate are a small segment, if 50 editors said "delete because I hate it" and you were to say "keep, although I do have COI, this is notable because of x y and z and I can prove it" it could end up the case, of the article been kept, even though it was 50 votes to 1 for deletion. Hope this answers the question, I'll keep an eye on your talk page for now incase you have any more queries. --NigelJ talk 10:29, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Lingam article

Namaste. I noticed your offer of help in mollifying disputes on the Lingam page. The conflict seems to be between a few individuals adopting certain views associated with Hindu nationalism, and others who object to those views. You could help by adding the page to your watch list and simply taking whatever action makes sense to you based on Wikipedia policies related to WP:RS and WP:NPOV, and watch for sock puppet activity which takes place on various pages connected to these ideas. The Linga is the symbol of a particular sect, the Lingayats, who are associated with particularly strong nationalistic views, which is my opinion of why the Lingam page draws their attention. Thank you for getting in touch, and if I can exchange any further views with you on this matter you may drop me a note on the talk page for the article, on my own talk page, or here as you prefer. AfD nomination of Daniel Morcombe

An editor has nominated Daniel Morcombe, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Daniel Morcombe and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:45, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Helpme request

I made the changes to User:SunStar Net/Status. Now I would like some help in changing images according to day and time:

{{#switch:{{CURRENTDAYNAME}}
|Monday=626_80's.jpg
|Tuesday=1985galant 2L turbo.jpg
etc.
|Sunday=Dodge Spirit.jpg}}

I would like it to work, so that if it's say, 2pm on a Saturday, the image changes, then again at 4pm, and then again at 6pm. Is this possible with the ParserFunctions, and if so, what values would I add??

Feel free to edit and let me know here on my talk page! --SunStar Net talk 10:24, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm just having a look at it so have removed the helpme for the now! Andytalk 10:32, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
Sorry but I've had a look at it and the way I thought I could do it I can't! so I'm going to put it back to the help page and hopefully someone else who knows the parser better than me will be able to do it! Sorry! Andytalk 11:01, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
I might have it.. Give me a few minutes to sort it out. Extranet talk 11:08, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
Here's how I think it works. Please note, it goes by UTC in 24-hour format. Have a try, sorry if it doesn't work out.
{{#switch:{{CURRENTDAYNAME}}-{{CURRENTTIME}}
|Monday-00:00=626_80's.jpg
|Monday-02:00=Tuesday=1985galant 2L turbo.jpg
etc.
|Sunday-22:00=Dodge Spirit.jpg}}

Extranet talk 11:13, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

I just tested it and it looks alright. Try it yourself SunStar. Extranet talk 11:25, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

{{helpme}}

Thanks for the help so far. I tried it but it doesn't seem to work. Can someone please try and fix User:SunStar Net/Status for me??

I'm not sure what I'm doing so far, so if anyone can please fix it for me that would be appreciated. --SunStar Net talk 18:42, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

I'll take a look, but just so you know, because of the way the servers cache the pages, this template won't change at the correct time.--Werdan7T @ 18:49, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello, SunStar Net. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Hudson56brochure.jpg) was found at the following location: User:SunStar Net/Automotive industry failures. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 08:19, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Solumeiras/Archive2, as a WikiProject Scotland participant, please check out this this thread and consider adding the bot results page to your watchlist so we can manually update the New Articles page. There are some false results for the first batch, but I'm sure we can collectively tune the rules to improve the output.

If we get enough people watching the results page, we'll be cooking with gas as they say :)   This looks like a great helper in finding new Scotland related material. Cheers. --Cactus.man 02:03, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

A testing page

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on A testing page, by Wildthing61476 (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because A testing page is a test page.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting A testing page, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 19:09, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
