Userboxes being patrolled edit

Hey there, I've received notifications that you've "patrolled" userboxes I've created, along with a check mark. I was just wondering the following: (i) What it means when something's been patrolled. (ii) Why it's being patrolled? If you could leave me a message on my Talk page, it would be most appreciated. Gregdox (talk) 11:07, 28 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

File:RadCom-Mar-2006-Cover.jpg8 edit

You marked a query on my file File:RadCom-Mar-2006-Cover.jpg clearly without reading the file description. It has been released into the public domain BY A PERSON AUTHORISED TO DO SO, as the file description clearly says. I reiterate that the file IS released into the public domain and I was - and am - in a position to do this. I have no idea what copyright tag it should have to meet the requirement of this week's version of the Wikipedia rules and I would appreciate you setting it to whatever it should be (a) to say it is a public domain image and (b) to stop this sort of thing happening again. WPCleaner Ooops edit

@NicoV:. I'm not sure what went wrong, but it appears edits made with WPCleaner are oopsing. So far 25 articles and counting. If it is WPCleaner problem, I think NicoV (developer) is out of town for a bit. Bgwhite (talk) 01:31, 8 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Bgwhite, for #3 WPCleaner only detects the problem, but doesn't give any suggestion for fixing it (except for situations where a references tag exists but is incorrectly written). So, the modifications in the 25 articles have been done manually. I suspect it's a copy/paste of an incorrect modification that has been repeated in all the articles. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 08:05, 8 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Copyrighted Wikimedia material vs. Commons edit

Hi! I've noticed you have re-added {{Copy to Commons}} to File:Webpositive.png. AFAIK, Commons don't allow copyrighted material. Can you, please, point me to some policy, guideline, essay or other discussion that made this transfer possible. (I am not questioning your decision; I genuinely want to get more info on this topic.) Thanks in advance! I an not watching this page, so {{ping}} would be appreciated. — Dmitrij D. Czarkoff (talktrack) 14:00, 16 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

But... edit

But I don't want my stuff copied to Commons. The next thing after that is that it'll be deleted from here and then we'll lose control of it. Notwithstanding that Commons and Wikipedia are technically under the same organizational umbrella for business and legal purposes, they're a separate entity with a separate business model and are actually hostile at times. If and when they're spun off into an independent corporation, which may happen, we don't know that will play out and how friendly the separation will be, so it makes me nervous to give away control of our stuff to third parties. Hi ! I have gotten permission to use File:Janika Fabrikant.png by photographer Yvonne Böhler. She sent an Email granting permission to "permissions-en@wikimedia.org" on 16 Jul 2014. Possibly Unfree File tagged for commons edit

Hello, I had thought this was db-self'ed till I saw it pop on my watchlist. I don't think the image File:Ann Mozley arrived at the ANU late in 1958 to help found the Australian Dictionary of Biography.jpg is in fact PD. It was pulled from here:[2], where it is credited to a private collection. The main page for that e-pub claims copyright as well. I discussed with the uploader who apparently put the PD tag on without understanding the implications. I was going to help her through the Fair Use process until she decided to go with another image. This image really should be deleted as unfree and unused. My fault for not following up as planned. CrowCaw 20:27, 4 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:DX100.png edit

I got this yesterday from somebody else, and responded to it HERE. The other complainer said he/she had fixed it. Now I get the same boilerplate complaint from you. It is VERY annoying and disheartening to get these notices from people who don't seem to have looked very closely at the pages for the files in question. I took this photo back in the 1950s, posted it to Wikipedia in what I thought at the time was the proper way, and released it to the public domain. If I need to do more to meet your requirements, please tell me specifically what I need to do. Now I have wasted over 30 minutes of my precious life responding to complaints about this image, which sat unchallenged for over eight years. PLEASE STOP THESE DISRUPTIVE ACTIVITIES, or PLEASE tell me what is missing here. I only have so much time for this. Lou Sander (talk) 18:28, 11 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

As far as I can tell, it is not a duplicate (see my note on the talk page of the miscillany for deletion page. Could you review it? Many thanks, Rlm3md (talk) 02:32, 28 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Regarding the Taxonomy templates of cobras edit

I am a new user, so in trying to add Naja nubiae, I did something that took away the taxonomic ranks. For example, if you go to Forest cobra you'll notice that only the species and subgenus are listed. It used to be like this: Eastern green mamba, where it included Kingdom, phylum, etc. Can you please fix it or help me fix it? Thanks --Angusticeps (talk) 21:33, 29 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

MfD vs. Speedy edit

Hi there. You tagged User:Bobby McIntyre Music for MfD. But, the content is clearly promotional. That could have been speedy tagged to save community resources. The page even contains "...Bobby McIntyre's career is now just truly starting to take off. His Debut Album, "The One" is now available to purchase on iTunes..." with the website right after that. Best wishes, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:04, 29 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

I was using MfD over speedy because I like second opinions, and wasn;t sure about how agressively to enforce, but noted. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 23:06, 29 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hey. edit

I just wanted to let you know that the edits that you reverted by Yolittle on the article Yo were actually vandalism. Furthermore, this user has already been warned up till level three already, and was at a level two warning before I just plopped down their second level three warning.

I just let WP:AIV know about this troublesome user, but feel free to do the same in the future if you find similarly-acting users.

Thanks for aiding in the fight against vandalism, nevertheless! Tharthandorf Aquanashi (talk) 14:13, 30 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Draft:History of WHL viaducts edit

This is actually a short section on the common history of the Larichmore Viaduct, Loch nan Uamh Viaduct, Borrodale Viaduct, Arnabol Viaduct, Morar Railway Viaduct, and Glenfinnan Viaduct, and is transcluded onto each of those pages. RandomPerson137 (talk) 15:10, 1 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the explanation. Had I seen it immediately, I would have speedy deleted it, but as I was sleeping, I didn't notice until after Andy Dingley took it to MFD with a significant personal attack. I've voted delete while redacting the attack. Nyttend (talk) 14:27, 2 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

A barnstar for you! edit

  The Barnstar of Diligence
I see that I was patrolled (and apparently passed muster). First, thanks for your efforts for Wikipedia - a wonderous organism (a unique and individual presence, yet created and possible only through compiled efforts of multitudes). I find it truly astounding, and wonderous. Second, I was just curious as to the process and function of the patrol. (Curious, as in, my personal investigation on "how things work", generally and particularly at WP. Anyway, thanks and Happy New Year. DGButterworth (talk) 19:47, 6 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Re: Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:CVCapital edit

Dear Sfan00 IMG,

Can you please explain why you think this article should be removed as you have nominated it for speedy deletion.

I have made the article in very simple format with third party sources from various media outlets I researched in order to make it more of an encyclopedia article on CVCapital rather than one that promotes a company. I have also looked at other Wikipedia articles on similar companies as a reference when creating this article.

I would appreciate any advice you could give me for how to go about revising this article so it can be more in line with Wikipedia’s guidelines. Thanks.

CVCap888 (talk) 20:43, 6 January 2015 (UTC)CVCap888Reply

It was flagged up, because your username appeared to suggest that you were writing the article on behalf of the company concerned, If you are an employee of that orignaisation, you might have a potential conflict of interest, as it's very hard even under the best of circumstances to be entirely neutral about matters with which one has direct connection.

However, an administrator (i.e. more experienced user with specfic skills) decided that the article was not, and hence the deletion request was declined, and the article marked as a draft.

I would strongly suggest reviewing the sources used, making sure that they are indeed independent. (I.E Not written from corporate press releases) 13:21, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

Ok. Thank you for the clarification and suggestions. --CVCap888 (talk) 18:34, 7 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Altiscale Deletion edit

Good Afternoon -

We are trying to understand why the Altiscale draft Wikipedia page was a candidate for rapid deletion, and then subsequently deleted. The page's content was modeled after the Wikipedia pages of several other companies -- Hortonworks and Qubole, in the same market space (technology:Hadoop) as Altiscale. Their Wikipedia pages are https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hortonworks and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qubole respectively.

We'd appreciate understanding what we can do to get the Altiscale page reinstated and approved. Best Regards, Altiscale Altiscale2014 (talk) 23:05, 7 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

The concern was that it was overly promotional. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 23:06, 7 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
In addition your user name suggested that it was being written by an individual that might have a Conflict of Interest, It's hard to write neutrally, when you have a close connection with the subject. The message you got when it was flagged should have provided links to advice pages on how to write the article so it was neutral and less promotional sounding.
If you want the article re-instated, you need to ask at WP:REFUND, providing a fairly detailed explanation of why you didn't consider the Draft article to be overly promotional. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 23:13, 7 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • Altiscale, the best way to get the page re-instated is simply to wait until someone with no COI thinks your company is notable and writes about it here. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 21:16, 8 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

So I should put the code onto User:InspiredAndNatural/wikia? I use it on Wikia, so it shouldn't contain anything malicious. Hello,

I have just hatched recently on Wikipedia :)

I saw your notification of being patrolled regarding my userpage.

Hello again :)

I was planning to work on making new articles but I am a little scared as it is going to be my first article and I want it to be the best and perfect. So I went through a lot of articles on Wikipedia and saw that many articles are also deleted based on Wikipedia policies. My question, however, is that what if an article meets all the criteria of Wikipedia policies and guidelines and is still deleted by some admin person because of his/her own conflict of issue. As in, are all the administrators on Wikipedia trustworthy in that sense? Or are there different types of admins?

Thank you please guide.

Book changes you made - what and why? edit

Hello. I received an email stating, “The Wikipedia page User:Folder1/Books/Eating Disorders has been changed on January 7, 2015 by Sfan00 IMG”; I also received similar emails for a couple of (since-deleted) related books that you changed, as well. These are terse (and automatic) emails, so I looked at logs for the books and came across nothing that explained anything. Can you advise 1) what you changed and why, and 2) if there are logs or anything else that would provide this info in the future? I'd like to learn more about how Wikipedia works and what I can (and can't) do, if you'd be so kind. Thanks.
Edit: After leaving this, I clicked on the Book Creator logo, which took me to your books page, which I promptly left. My apologies.

About your (non)participation in the January 2012 SOPA vote edit

Hi. I am Piotr Konieczny (User:Piotrus), you may know me as an active content creator (see my userpage), but I am also a professional researcher of Wikipedia. Recently I published a paper (downloadable here) on reasons editors participated in Wikipedia's biggest vote to date (January 2012 WP:SOPA). I am now developing a supplementary paper, which analyzes why many editors did not take part in that vote. Which is where you come in :) You are a highly active Wikipedian (16th most active!), and you were active back during the January 2012 discussion/voting for the SOPA, yet you did not chose to participate in said vote. I'd appreciate it if you could tell me why was that so? For your convenience, I prepared a short survey at meta, which should not take more than a minute of your time. I would dearly appreciate you taking this minute; not only as a Wikipedia researcher but as a fellow content creator and concerned member of the community (I believe your answers may help us eventually improve our policies and thus, the project's governance). PS. If you chose to reply here (on your userpage), please WP:ECHO me. Thank you! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 14:56, 4 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hey Sfan00 IMG, any chance you could help me out with this? Few more responses would really be very valuable to me. As the 16th most active Wikipedian, your input really does matter. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 16:15, 10 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Because what I do is mostly images, the SOPA initiative was not an issue of relevance to the edits I make. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:21, 10 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for taking time to reply. Would you have any thoughts on the second issue, i.e. whether we, the editors, are well informed about such discussions? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 00:56, 13 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

"Permission is granted to copy, publish, broadcast or post the pictures in this AD. Please make sure that you include the following credit: Photo by CarProperty.com"

Lord Laitinen Requires Your Assistance edit

  • Hello Sfan00 IMG. I would like your assistance with something image-related. I have created a series of files by merging Wikipedia's permission logos with File:Folder-open Gion.svg, which could be used by users to show that they have applied/requested for user permissions unsuccessfully in the past. I believe that these files would be of great use to Wikipedia, but I would like to know if you think so, as well. Also, since I am utilizing Wikimedia Foundation logo files and a file made by another user, which license, if any, would allow this series of files to be uploaded?
