Something like that can be most annoying. It's a very detailed article and obviously, a lot of work has gone into it. You've put good arguments forward. The easiest thing to avert deletion might be to proof that GNG has been met. You know all the sources; are there a couple of reliable sources where she was discussed as a person (as opposed to her work), with some biographical details? Yes, it pretty a pretty hardline approach when she has done so much across all areas of science, not just the general practitioner aspect that they seem to see as being less than notable! Also, I am picking up that Turner, like many NZ scientists, is a very private person so there is little about her earlier life. I really liked this article by The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners because it was an interview in which she talked about a lot of her values and experiences that have shaped her career. But I got told early on that it was not a reliable secondary source so took it off. Have look anyway. Thanks for your interest. • Dear Realitylink, I think things don't look good for your article on Nikki Turner. My view of the issue is that anyone with some academic publications tends gets judged by many on the WP:Prof criteria alone. It seems clear to me that she is a lot of good academic contributions but it is her work in public health generally and as director of IMAC and all the reports on/by her in the media are why she is notable and we should have a page on her. The page's over promotional tone... large content is something that often annoys people. I am not sure how best to proceed and I think it is often difficult to change the mood of an AfD once it has started. And lines like She is, at best, a standard academic in her field are I think very harsh. Anyway best wishes (Msrasnw (talk) 15:26, 27 March 2021 (UTC))

Article assessment

That isn't the way to deal with a stub assessment. Instead, what you do is either reassess an article by giving it a different rating (you need some experience for it, though), or, if the current assessment is obviously wrong, you remove that assessment part itself (in this case, the words "stub" where they appear). What you've done instead is remove the project tags in their entirety, and that is obviously undesirable. Those tags are there so that editors who belong to those WikiProjects can keep an eye on things. Schwede66 22:14, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Jemma Geoghegan photo

I see that you've uploaded a photo of Jemma Geoghegan to Commons. That looks like rather professional work. Are you based in Dunedin? I'm asking because you say it's your own work and she's based in Dunedin. There is a group of active Wikipedians in Dunedin who sometimes meet; you might want to join them. Well, I have to admit that she took it herself and sent it to me. Lakes380 upload their own images and I did suggest that she uploaded it there but it wasn't happening, so I did it myself. I told her I was doing this. I guess it comes down from Wikicommons and then she uploads it to the other page now? So, yes, I don't live in Dunedin these days! Well, I have to admit that I knew that the photo wasn't taken in Dunedin. It was taken by somebody working for Macquarie University (and not by herself, I'm afraid). Copyright rests with the photographer (and sometimes, they have signed their rights to their client, i.e. the university) and not with the subject. I shall nominate the photo for deletion. Ah, and the perils of rushing responses - too much happening! - when I was mentioning Lakes380 above, it was about an image for Susie Wood, who I did have a few communications with about her photo...so I guess this one will need to come down as well and I suggest to her that she upload it? (She did tell me she took it herself and was ok with it going up. I know there is a permission process for this...)You are a patient person; I hope you take my responses as being in good faith. My middle name is "patience" and it's not hard to see that you are a good faith editor. New editors do stuff up one thing or another (been there; done that) and the important thing is to learn from it etc. If you do have the permission from the photographer, there is no need to take a photo down; what you need to do is to get them to send their permission to Commons. Here's an email template; fill that out for each photo and send it off to the respective photographer. I'll mark those photos as "OTRS pending" on Commons.

Here's a list of what you have uploaded to Commons. I've converted this to a wikitable – see below. Can you please edit the table below, and replace "tbd" (to be determined) with what needs to happen to each photo? I suggest the following fields:

• OTRS
• delete
• own work
• licence ok

I see that the OTRS team has made a modification. What needs to happen is for you to complete the boiler plate text, you then send that to the photographer, asking the photographer to send that permission to the OTRS team. I thought the Theatre image one was already on Wikicommons, but not sure? So far I have been cc'd into permissions being added to images for: David Wratt, Glen Eden Playhouse, Dave Lowe, Tim Naish - pretty sure those for Nikki Turner, Jim Salinger and Susie Wood will go through judging from the email communications so far. Some of those ones of Susie Wood out in the field are a little more difficult to trace. Richard Clinghan has his own Wikipedia account so can probably deal with the image himself. No, those licences are not ok. You uploaded the file and if you are not the photographer, you have to go through the OTRS process. Having an email that says "it's ok to use that photo" is not good enough. Having been copied into permission emails is also not enough. The issue is resolved when the OTRS team changes the licence; I'll now go through and tag all the images. Schwede66 22:46, 18 July 2021 (UTC)

I've updated the table below. Everywhere where it says "OTRS pending", you need to send the photographer a permission email if you haven't done so already. Greetings of the season! I see you've written Church of St. John the Baptist, Auckland. Good on you. I thought to get in touch in case you also work on Wikidata (the thing that connects all the different language Wikipedias with one another plus Commons plus all sorts of other things). In case you don't — please ignore this message. In case you do, you may be interested to hear that there is a complete set of entries for items listed by Heritage New Zealand. In this case, a bot created a Wikidata entry because the title of your page was different to how it was listed in Wikidata (had the title matched, the bot would have found it). If you had searched for the Wikidata item, you would have found it (especially if you knew that there was an entry already, which you now do). I've merged the two Wikidata items, which is easy enough to do. Any questions, please ask (here's good).

It's like Wikipedia. Edit it if you feel so inclined. It's a good way to see what's online; there are some very nifty tools for creating lists of items (e.g. those things listed by Heritage New Zealand restricted to a region of interest). A related cool tool is Wikishootme; this runs on your phone (it's a website), and once you authorise its use (same Wikipedia account), it knows where you are and shows you Wikidata items with coordinates where there's no photo yet. Easy to find listed heritage buildings. Wikishootme uploads to Commons and links the photo to the Wikidata entry. Very cool! Schwede66 03:31, 14 January 2022 (UTC)

Ok, so I was thinking of doing a draft of a page for Andrew Becroft and see that he has a Wikidata page. Obviously I can use the references from there - all nicely archived. It's easy enough to link it yourself (if it doesn't do it automatically). Whey you have the Wikidata page open, hit "edit" next to 'Wikipedia'. Where it then says "Wiki", it wants the relevant language code – that's en for the English Wikipedia. You then get to see an input field "page" where you enter the article's name. Rejuvenate WikiProject Skepticism

Hello - my name is Susan Gerbic (Sgerbic) and I'm writing to you because at some point you joined Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism. This might have been months ago - or even years ago. With the best of intentions the project was created years ago, and sadly like many WikiProjects has started to go dormant. A group of us are attempting to revitalize the Skepticism project, already we have begun to clean up the main page and I've just redone the participant page. No one is in charge of this project, it is member directed, which might have been the reason it almost went dormant. We are attempting to bring back conversations on the talk page and have two subprojects as well, in the hopes that it might spark involvement and a way of getting to know each other better. One was created several years ago but is very well organized and a lot of progress was made, Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Skeptical organisations in Europe. The other I created a couple weeks ago, it is very simple and has a silly name Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Skepticism Stub Sub-Project Project (SSSPP). This sub-project runs from March 1 to June 1, 2022. We are attempting to rewrite skepticism stubs and add them to this list. As you can see we have already made progress.

The reason I'm writing to you now is because we would love to have you come back to the project and become involved, either by working on one of the sub-projects, proposing your own (and managing it), or just hanging out on the talk page getting to know the other editors and maybe donate some of your wisdom to some of the conversations. As I said, no one is in charge, so if you have something in mind you would like to see done, please suggest it on the talk page and hopefully others will agree. Please add the project to your watchlist, update your personal user page showing you are a proud member of WikiProject Skepticism. And DIVE in, this is what the work list looks like [1] frightening at first glance, but we have already started chipping away at it.

That works, feel free to re-add. The tag won't be removed until an administrator processes it though, as I'm asking for just the revisions with copyrighted content to be redacted. It shouldn't affect your work unless you're adding more. I don't really know much about the topic, but I think WP:SPS and primary source guidelines might be a concern in this case. Any user can do assessments, as least up to B class. What those classes mean for WPNZ is described here. Importance is hugely subjective but one measure that can be looked at is page views. As a rule of thumb, some 60% of pages belonging to a Wikiproject should be low importance; the balance should thus distribute itself across the remainder. Quotations and periods, in or out?

See MOS:INOROUT. When what is being quoted is a sentence fragment, the terminal period is outside the quotation marks. When the quotation is a full sentence, and the quotation ends with a period, then the period is inside the quotation marks. Paora (talk) 21:56, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

Yes, thanks for that. I spent hours last night scouring for an answer and missed that bit about the 'fragment'! So is the expectation that if a full sentence is being quoted, it would need to have the upper case letter included in the quote when added to the article in the middle of the sentence? Would it need a colon before?? Comma?? Somehow that looks kind of weird to me; I certainly haven't done it with all my quotes in the past, and don't see it often in Wikipedia articles. But hey, we keep learning and it is something I will watch in the future and go back and revert my edits from this morning, and maybe add a couple of captitals....Realitylink (talk) 22:17, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
