Acid dissociation constant - re-written lead

I have now re-written the lead for acid dissociation constant. The essential content of the lead is the same as before. The effect of this change will be that when chemists will read the explanatory material they will say to themselves, yes, I know that, but non-chemists will hopefully get the gist of what the article is about

I invite you to read it and then record your “vote”, e.g. “now support” or “still oppose”, at wp:Featured_article_candidates/Acid_dissociation_constant. I have assembled a list of names under Re-written lead, so that the responses will be collected together in one place.

I like using my real name because google gives such high priority to wikipedia. It works extra well because I have an unusual name, but right now I'm the top five hits for Peregrine Fisher on google. That's very hard to do normally, although maybe myspace, etc. could provide the same results, I don't know. Some people want to remain anons, but I like being findable with a quick search.

Chak De India

Thanks for your edit to Chak De India. You raised a fair point and perhaps can offer some advice as to how to describe the film. It is a fictional story, with a fictional cast of characters and fictional games. However, it is based upon a series of interviews conducted with members of the real team and their 2002 win in England. Do you think that, as written, this distinction is clearly made? Portland Hempstalk Festival

Signpost format

Thanks for your suggestion. I noticed it at the Signpost talk page earlier, but didn't comment on it for a couple reasons. The main one is that I wouldn't presume to push for major changes until Ral315 is back in the conversation. But I also think our weekly [sic] format has some attractive features: it makes for easy organization of earlier content, like other news media it has the element of finality that sets it apart from the ever-changing rest of what we do, and it has deadlines, which I find helpful for keeping things up to date. Without the standard set of features and regular deadlines for them, I think our coverage would be a lot spottier than it has been. I think we should be able to work out some conventions so that we don't fall behind when any specific people are off-wiki for extended periods. That's just my opinion, of course; I don't pretend to be the final word on the issue.--ragesoss (talk) 04:01, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah. I only got through the first six or so paragraphs, and about half the sentences needed to be reworded. I spot checked the rest of the article, and it has similar issues. GAs in Spanish Wikipedia

Hello. Well, in Spanish Wikipedia, a lot of GAs and FAs are translations from articles written in English Wikipedia. To write a GA, you need to know the subject, to write a complete article about it, to include references, to put images if you can (this is more difficult in Spanish Wikipedia than in the English one, because we don't applicate the fair use) and then to nominate the article in es:Wikipedia:Selección de artículos buenos/nominaciones. In this page, any user can nominate an article, and then another user (this user has to had written a good or a featured article) can check it and he or she decides if it deserves to be a good article. The article can be approved, can be rejected or can be put "on hold". The articles are put on hold when they need little changes to be a GA; the author has seven days to correct the mistakes that the other user (the one who can approve or reject the article) has noted. In Spanish Wikipedia we also have another choice: we can approve or reject the article, and then ask for a second opinion: other user can check the article and he or she decides if it can be approved.

In response to this comment, I assume you are interested in trying to improve some SImpsons articles. Do you own any of the DVDs or books? Those are quite useful. The article that you proposed for the Signpost (on other Wiki GAs) would be a logical fit for the Dispatches. We've got one in the works already for Featured content in other languages, so it would make sense to run GA on the heels of that. Perhaps you can peruse WT:FCDW and add the suggestion there, where others can help? See WP:FCDW/OtherWikis, still in the data gathering phase, but planned for within the month. GAs on the German Wikipedia

In the German Wikipedia, we don't have such a quality scale from Stub Class to Featured articles. There are two honors for Wikipedia articles: "Exzellent" (excellent) and "Lesenswert" (worth-reading). The term Exzellent is equivalent to Featured Articles on the English Wikipedia. Lesenswert is comparable with Good Articles on the English Wikipedia. You want to know something about the German worth-reading articles, then?

The decision whether an article becomes a lesenswerter Artikel is based on Requirements for worth-reading articles (de-wiki) as well as How to write good articles? (de).

Minimum Requirements

1. The article has to meet the central aspects (crucial points) of the subject
2. The article has to be "technically correct", that means accurate
3. The information in the article have to be sourced (complete references)
4. All figures/images that are used in the article have to be under a free license
5. The form/layout of the article should be pleasing and comply with the standards of Wikipedia
6. The article has to have an introduction, which summarizes the crucial information about the topic
7. The introduction must also explain the subject and the context of the article

Things that are tolerated in worth-reading articles

1. Some aspects (points) may be incomplete or missing
2. Images are not necessary but may not be chosen inappropriate or at random
3. Speech: Small uncertainties and weaknesses are tolerated, as long as they do not affect the understanding of the text
4. Jargon is tolerated, despite bad understandability, if it is necessary for the representation of the topic. Not tolerated are unnecessary complicated phrases, that are lingo.

Well, I think the big block quotes should be summarized and incorporated into the text. Somthing about the "Marvel and DC" and "Other publishers" sections needs to be done. Maybe combine the into history, and remove the stuff about Archie and the Batman TV series because I've looked hard for sources and found none (online anyways). Then make sure the lead summarizes the whole thing, and then just read the whole thing and copyedit whatever needs it. It's only a few hours work, but I haven't got up for it yet. I've been feeling a bit lazy, but if you want to start I'll probably get motivated. Jackie Robinson Edits

Thanks so much for your feedback. I did have multiple cites because I felt it necessary to provide more than one source on such a volatile part of his public life. The fact that his testimony regarding Robeson was absent from the article gives one the idea that it's still a very controversial part of his legacy as it took him out of the framework of squeaky clean sports and into the Cold war AND it pitted him against another beloved African-American icon. The section may be tampered with or deleted (Robeson has been hugely controversial on wikipedia) so I'm happy that the article is protected. Confused

I am so confused about who tends to be what in this RfC. It is human nature to want to categorize people, and put them in neat little boxes, but this RfC has made it difficult.

for example, everyone says Phil is an inclusionist, but I don't understand.

DGG, probably the most respected editor who supports inclusion, voted yes for this proposal, and A Nobody is neutral.

Phil started the page that is now FICT. It started looser, and Phil fought the whole time to keep it as loose as he could, and in the end we all kind of agreed on the one we have now. It's the most we could get, basically. A while back, we had a big poll, with the inclusionists hoping the fans would come out and support by a huge margin, but they didn't. We can let this die, and just have NOTE again, but it's stricter. It requires two big (book, newspaper, etc.) references for everything, including fiction. Rewrite your lead (as you planned), delete the few sentences you planned to remove, and send the article to copyedit at Comics Project. Then renominate. Thanks for reviewing Ruth Martin (Lassie). One question. Is is permissible to place the episode references within the text (like this): "In the fifth season (1958), June Lockhart made her debut as Ruth Martin in the opening episode, "The Storm" with Hugh Reilly as her husband Paul Martin." I prefer incorporating the episode-as-reference into the text but I'm not sure I've seen a WP guideline on this. I'll follow your recommendations. BTW, I've checked a few of your articles on your User Page. There a pleasure to read. I appreciate unusual and well written articles like Cannabis in Oregon. I don't think we have a hard rule about it. Wikipedia:WikiProject Lost does some of the best television articles. Looking at Nikki and Paulo, you should probably have inline refs. They contain more information. One example ref is '"Every Man for Himself." Lost, ABC. October 25, 2006. Episode 4, season 3.' You could put all that in sentence itself, but I don't think it would flow well. I'm having one of my articles reviewed right now, and they requested that I have a publisher for every ref, so think inline is the way to go. Just becuase you have inline refs doesn't mean you still can't do sentences like "In the fifth season (1958), June Lockhart made her debut as Ruth Martin in the opening episode, "The Storm" with Hugh Reilly as her husband Paul Martin."
