  • A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. Bias and NPOV on Marxism

Hello,

I'm inviting you to comment on a discussion on the Talk: Marxism concerning an ongoing edit war concerning the political categorisation of the use of historical materialism (Marxism). I can see you reverted possible vandalism earlier this year, thus you find it of interest. DocHeuh (talk) 16:56, 4 January 2023 (UTC)

No comment. I'm sorry, I don't really want to participate. I hope everyone in the discussion can come to an agreement in the end and stop the edit war. Best regards, ~~lol1VNIO (I made a mistake? talk to me) 11:00, 5 January 2023 (UTC)

Edits to Sharon Needles

Hi Lol1VNIO, I saw your edit. I have a different opinion, seeing as the N-word wasn't directly quoted but rather referenced (in which case, not repeating the slur seems apt) but were it quoted, I think the circumstances would be such that censoring the word would be wrong. Anyway, I've added to the talk page, since at least two people on here have different opinions here! Have a nice day. 2.28.186.212 (talk) 17:46, 5 January 2023 (UTC)

OK, I'll answer at that talk page. Best, ~~lol1VNIO (I made a mistake? talk to me) 17:54, 5 January 2023 (UTC)

"Template:Ct/alert"

Hi Lol1VNIO, Template:Ct/alert is a subpage of Template:Ct, a cycling template. There have been two short discussions at Wikipedia_talk:Contentious_topics/2021-22_review/Implementation (search for "Template:Ct" using your browser's search function to quickly find both) that led to it not being created. I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad idea or that you did anything wrong; this is just for context. Best regards, ~ ToBeFree (talk) 00:01, 22 January 2023 (UTC) [not as a clerk, just as one of the editors who didn't create the page]

Thanks, @ToBeFree: Since WP:SCNAMES seems to be leaning against creating shortcuts [that add] to the existing mess, I've nominated them for G7 speedy deletion with a request for a link to those discussions. Best, ~~lol1VNIO🧧🐈 (I made a mistake? talk to me) 09:33, 22 January 2023 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of File:Remilia Scarlet paint.png

The file File:Remilia Scarlet paint.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused personal image

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Changes I made on Del Bigtree's page

I did not make any "fringe" viewpoints. His group is literally called Informed Consent Action Network. I updated the "anti-vaxx" to the factual and accurate representation of his group. It's not a stretch to be accurate. 143.55.59.56 (talk) 15:47, 3 February 2023 (UTC)

The "factual and accurate representation" of his group is actually "anti-vax" according to the majority of secondary sources cited in the article. The wording "informed consent" is only used by him and some other fringe groups who may or may not have a conflict of interest. ~~lol1VNIO (I made a mistake? talk to me) 15:56, 3 February 2023 (UTC)

The fact was ... that the takedown of a controversial Goddess of Victory: Nikke advertisement led to another controversy? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Nikke: Goddess of Victory. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Goddess of Victory: Nikke), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Images removed from userpage

Hi, Lol1VNIO. Hope all is well. This is a courtesy note to inform you that I—acting as an uninvolved administrator in accordance with the Wikipedia:User pages policy, including its NOBAN provision—have removed three images from your userpage for violation of Wikipedia:User pages § Images that would bring the project into disrepute. I think the reason for this should be self-explanatory in all three cases. Please do not restore them or add similar images to your userpage in the future. Thanks. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 03:07, 17 February 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Tamzin. I wasn't aware the rest WP:UP was very strict, superseding NOBAN at times. Kinda sad that the cool streak (admin viewable) is gone. Nonetheless, I understand that it's for the community, and I've been meaning to rewrite my userpage for ages, so this is a great time for a reset. Thank you. ~~lol1VNIO (I made a mistake? talk to me) 18:31, 17 February 2023 (UTC)

A recent reversion on the Post-It Note page

I was in the process of adding to another edit of mine when you reverted a heading I added. I did it this way because the class I'm currently taking requires me to make one edit at a time and then to publish each of them individually. I was mostly wondering if it was ok if I put the heading back and made all the edit real quick? Appleby2102 (talk) 10:34, 11 March 2023 (UTC)

Altered speedy deletion rationale: That Thing by That Place

Hello Lol1VNIO, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I deleted That Thing by That Place, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided. The speedy deletion criteria are extremely narrow and specific, and the process is more effective if the correct criterion is used. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 13:53, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

History of diabetes

In the history of diabetes section it is mentioned that Polyuria in diabetes was associated with a sweet taste in Sanskrit texts of the 5th/6th century BC, at the time of two notable physicians Sushruta and Charaka but charaka wasn't even born at the 5th/6th century BC. Another flaw is in the link of https://books.google.co.in/books?id=i0qojvF1SpUC&pg=PA3&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q&f=false Which states that In 5th century AD, sushuruta and charaka two indian physician had differentiated two types of diabetes mellitus but sushuruta wasn't born in 5th century AD but in 600BC David dclork li (talk) 21:41, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the last edit summary. In the past I read the MacDonald source, and I don't remember ever seeing any indication that McCartney played cowbell. Ringo yes, but not McCartney. Do you have access to MacDonald to confirm that it was McCartney? Sundayclose (talk) 14:28, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

Hello @Sundayclose: I read a different edition of MacDonald (click on p. 83) than the one the article cited. If I remember correctly, it was Ringo who played the cowbell on A Hard Day's Night, the song. Best wishes, ~~lol1VNIO🕯 (I made a mistake? talk to me) 14:36, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – June 2023

News and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2023).

  Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
  • As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.

  Technical news

  • Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.

  Arbitration

  • The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.

News and updates for administrators from the past month (August 2023).

  Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, TFAs will be automatically semi-protected the day before it is on the main page and through the day after.
  • A discussion at WP:VPP about revision deletion and oversight for dead names found that [s]ysops can choose to use revdel if, in their view, it's the right tool for this situation, and they need not default to oversight. But oversight could well be right where there's a particularly high risk to the person. Use your judgment.

  Arbitration

  • The SmallCat dispute case has closed. As part of the final decision, editors participating in XfD have been reminded to be careful about forming local consensus which may or may not reflect the broader community consensus. Regular closers of XfD forums were also encouraged to note when broader community discussion, or changes to policies and guidelines, would be helpful.
