Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Colonialhongkongarms.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Colonialhongkongarms.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 19:20, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Colonialhongkongarms.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Colonialhongkongarms.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Speedy deletion nomination of Kowloon West New Dynamic/meta/color

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Kamkek (talk) 16:14, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Taiwanese elections

Please be aware that non-public elections are not included in these templates (i.e. those where the President was elected by parliament etc). Cheers, Number 57 12:50, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Is it a rule set by the author the that template? What do you mean by non-public elections and public elections? As I know the 1948 presidential elections were public elections voted by the members of the National Assembly who were directly elected by the public. In your words, does it mean that indirect election is counted as non-public election?--Lmmnhn (talk) 12:58, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
It's a rule covering the entire series of these election templates (well over 200 of them now). And yes, it does exclude indirect elections (except in cases where people are only elected to elect someone else - i.e. US presidential elections). Number 57 13:06, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
Well, I don't think the "rule" you have mentioned is fully practiced in all these templates or it makes sense to me as I see in the Elections in Hong Kong Template, where the Chief Executive is elected by only 800 members of the electoral committee. It may fulfill your requirement as the committee is "only" elected to elect the CE but however it certainly not public at all. Meanwhile, although the German Federal Convention is a special institution elected as a electoral college to "only" elect the President of the Federal Republic, which quite similar to the function of the National Assembly of the ROC, the elections are not shown in the template. I reckon that the "rule" as you are saying is very unclear and confusing. I hope a further reasonable guideline can be given.--Lmmnhn (talk) 13:27, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
In that case, I have removed the Chief Exec from the HK template. Regarding the German federal convention, its members are not publicly elected, so it does not count. Hence I think the rule is very clear as it is. Number 57 14:31, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Due to the nature of the block applied we need additional information before we can decide whether to unblock you. It is very likely that you are not personally blocked. If you are prevented from editing, it may be because you are autoblocked or blocked because of your IP address. Without further details there is nothing further we can do to review or lift your block. Please follow these instructions:

  1. If you have a Wikipedia account, please ensure that you are logged in.
Your account name will be visible in the top right of this page if you are.
If it isn't, try bypassing your web browser's cache.
  2. Try to edit the Sandbox.
  3. If you are still blocked, copy the {{unblock-auto|...}} code generated for you under the "IP blocked?" section. This is usually hidden within the "What do I do now?" section. If so, just click the "[show]" link to the right hand side to show this text.

District vs constituency.

Hello Lmmnhn, please do not create new pages ".... (constituency)" with exactly the same content as the ... (District) articles. Instead you should use the "move" button on top of an existing article's page to rename the page. That way the edit history is preserved which is important for the keeping the free license of the content. Regards, De728631 (talk) 19:41, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

sorry i didn't know the "move" function...--Lmmnhn (talk) 20:01, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Hello

I'm posting this message on your talk page because I noticed that you've recently created the new article Kowloon City District Council--However, I think the article seems to contain a few errors: the article currently does not contain any references. As a new article, the most important thing is to find reliable references for all existing information.Jipinghe (talk) 18:53, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

Some tips for you!

Hi Lmmnhn, I thought I'd drop a few notes on your talk page with some help on writing articles :o)

First of all, it may be best for you to do a bit of reading, starting with the Wikipedia manual of style, which will give you a lot of information about how Wikipedia prefers its articles to be written. It's not as hard to follow as it might look; quite a bit of the information there probably won't be vital for you at first.

Second, I recommend you make a user sandbox - which is just an area you can use to practise in, and to make notes in, and to get things ready in. If you click this red link: user:Lmmnhn/Sandbox, that will let you create that page (it gives you an edit window to start work in). Anything, anywhere, on the help and information pages which gives you an example, try it out in your sandbox until you're familiar with it.

For your article, the next thing you want to do is start collecting as much information as you can about it. Google searches (particularly in Books and Scholar) will be your best friend for this! Once you've found the information, the next most important thing is to start writing up each fact in your own words (very important, this), and make a note at the same time of exactly where that information came from. Build in the references as you go along; I'm going to copy in, down below this, a whole heap of help on doing references, which was produced by one of our best teachers (Chzz).

Here's another place that you'll find incredibly useful - citation templates which you can copy and paste into your sandbox, between <ref></ref> tags; you just fill in the blanks from your sources into the template, and you'll end up with nicely formatted inline citations :o) It all helps. Remember to add a references section to your sandbox (make a new line, and put ==References== on it, and type {{reflist}} on the next line, so that you can see how your citations look as you do them. Remember to save your page often! You don't want to lose your work.

Hopefully this will give you a good start and make life easier for you. Pesky (talkstalk!) 06:31, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Something to make your life easier!

Hi there Lmmnhn! I've just come across one of your articles, and noticed that you had to create titles for your url links manually, or were using bare urls as references.

You might want to consider using this tool - it makes your life a whole heap easier, by filling in complete citation templates for your links. All you do is install the script on Special:MyPage/common.js, or or Special:MyPage/vector.js, then paste the bare url (without [...] brackets) between your <ref></ref> tabs, and you'll find a clickable link called Reflinks in your toolbox section of the page (probably in the left hand column). Then click that tool. It does all the rest of the work (provided that you remember to save the page! It doesn't work for everything (particularly often not for pdf documents), but for pretty much anything ending in "htm" or "html" (and with a title) it will do really, really well. Happy editing! Pesky (talkstalk!) 06:31, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

One last thing ....

We really appreciate quality over quantity - it's better to write one good, well-referenced, nicely-presented article, with a reasonable amount of information in it, than it is to create fifty unreferenced "stubs" of just one or two lines :o) I'm coming across a lot of articles of yours which would be really good if you could fill them out with more information, and include those inline citations. Pesky (talkstalk!) 07:17, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Some templates of yours

I see that some of your templates at Hong Kong Chief Executive election, 2012 are called by Template:Infobox election. In particular, I can't quite work out why the Template:Pro-Beijing camp/meta/shortname and Template:Pro-democracy camp/meta/shortname templates are needed. Why can't we just be able to type in 'Pan-democrat', 'Liberal' or 'Maoist' (just as an example) to achieve exactly the required rendering? --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 15:23, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

Great Song/Great Tang/etc.

Please stop changing the dynasty names in these articles; the names were NOT "Great Song" and "Great Tang"-- rather than debate this I think it's convincing enough to go look at the corresponding articles on the Chinese wikipedia, both of which are FA's and do not use these terms anywhere. The first dynasty that did use this term was Yuan. siafu 00:39, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

You mean ASIDE from the featured articles on the Chinese wikipedia? Since the burden of proof is on you anyway, why don't you tell me what the evidence is? siafu 02:58, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%A4%A7%E5%AE%8B%E5%AE%A3%E5%92%8C%E9%81%97%E4%BA%8B 大宋宣和遺事, http://zh.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%E5%AE%8B%E9%92%A6%E5%AE%97&variant=zh-hk 中國大宋皇帝, no country would have their native name call X朝 (X dynasty). "Dynasty" is the term that is used to desribe a period by the historian.--Lmmnhn 03:12, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Perhaps you should read the articles you are citing; 大宋宣和遺事 is the name of a novel, not a dynasty. 中國大宋皇帝 means the "Great Chinese Song Emperor", though it doesn't sound so hamfisted in Chinese. Neither indicates that the dynasty was called "Great Song". siafu 03:27, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
I don't know if you speak Chinese or not, but I am a native Chinese speaker. It is the name of a novel, but there is the country name 大宋 in the title, and 中國大宋皇帝 means "Great Song Emperor of China", so they both indicates that the dynasty was called "Great Song". Even if the native name of the country is not "Great Song" or "Song", doesn't mean that it should be "The Song Dynasty"--Lmmnhn 03:36, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
If you're trying to tell me that "Dynasty" is a poor translation for 朝, that's a rather different matter, but if you're trying to say that "大宋" was the common or even formal name for the "state" that existed in China between 960 and 1279, I'm afraid I have to disagree and you'll have to provide an actual source that indicates that. And yes, I do speak Chinese, though not as well as I used to. siafu 03:57, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
If you don't mind, I think "Song" will be a compromise between "Great Song" and "The Song Dynasty", and Tang as well.--Lmmnhn 04:04, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Well, there's not just me to deal with on this one. Wikipedia:Naming conventions#Use common names indicates that the article must be named "Song Dynasty" because that's the common name. However, you weren't changing the article name, just changing the name in the infobox-- also inappropriate as it should match the article name. If you were to provide a source and convince me, the right thing to do is put a note in the intro about naming. I'm still waiting for such a source, though. siafu 04:08, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Can you perhaps explain to me why there is no mention of 大宋 or 大唐 on [1] and [2] respectively? siafu 14:27, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
[3], it explained that Tang Dynasty's native name is "Tang" but not "Great Tang" or "The Tang Dynasty" --Lmmnhn 22:26, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Rearrange Legco 2012 page

Hi, I'm just about to rearrange the sections (but not change content) on the Legco 2012 page. Speak now if you wish. Like this:

  • New arrangement
  • General outcome
  • Candidate lists and results
  • Retiring incumbents
  • Incumbents defeated (maybe merge those two incumbent sections)
  • Eligibility
  • Opinion polling - should we delete this now? It was really useful, but now seems a bit dated

Onanoff (talk) 17:05, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

I am okay with the rearrangement, but I suggest to keep the opinion polling.--Lmmnhn (talk) 17:08, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
OK, done. I've kept the opinion polling for now. There's no rush to cut it, after all your hard work compiling it. But it will seem stale as time goes by. The tables in the early part are pushing against each other a bit. (At the end of the first results table, I removed the map and Legco president info, which seemed out of place anyway.) Onanoff (talk) 21:04, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
Soon someone needs to update the status of all the former and new Legcors on their pages. Could be me ... Onanoff (talk) 21:04, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Hong Kong legislative election, 2012

I suggest putting the results at 23/36 and 27/42 for 2008 and 2012 respectively, rather than the current 23/37 and 27/43. This is because from the voting record, it would be unfair to classify Leung Ka-lau as either pan-dem or pro-BJ. He simply doesn't belong to either. Deryck C. 14:36, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Could you be the help with giving the voting record for reference? Besides, there have been many other articles that Leung Ka-lau being classified as Pro-Beijing camp, such as Template:Hong Kong legislative election, 2008 Template:Hong Kong legislative election, 2012, List of Legislative Council of Hong Kong members elected in 2012 and List of Legislative Council of Hong Kong members elected in 2008. You could go ahead and do the edition but it is better to be consistent. Also, it should be 23/1/36 and 17/1/42 if it is to be edited.--Lmmnhn (talk) 14:55, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Hong Kong sanitary board election, 1933

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Hong Kong sanitary board election, 1933, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Hong Kong sanitary board election, 1930. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. MadmanBot (talk) 19:22, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Cheng Yiu Tong.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Cheng Yiu Tong.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MilborneOne (talk) 19:59, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Cecilia Yeung

The article Cecilia Yeung has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not really notable for themselves and undoubtedly failed WP:POLITICIAN.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Proposed deletion of Stephen Cheong

The article Stephen Cheong has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Andrew Wong Wang-fat

A tag has been placed on Andrew Wong Wang-fat, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to a nonexistent page, or a redirect loop.

If you can fix this redirect to point to an existing Wikipedia page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you also fix the redirect. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. - Camyoung54 talk 19:20, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

3nd vs. 2nd or 3rd

Hello, I saw your edit where you removed the {{clarify}} tags from Liberal Party (Hong Kong). My concern is that "3nd" is not an English language ordinal number. Usually where someone has written "3nd" they actually mean 2nd or 3rd. I couldn't be sure from the linked articles. Do you know if it should be either 2nd or 3rd? Thanks, SchreiberBike talk 18:00, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

I have changed it to 3rd. It is according to the Hong Kong legislative election, 1998 and Hong Kong legislative election, 2000. Thanks for the concern though.--Lmmnhn (talk) 21:45, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

Table stats updating

Hi. I have seen you making edits on statistical tables on 2013–14 Chelsea F.C. season. I would appreciate if you when making edits like this or this also could change the date of when the table last got updated. Otherwise there is a risk some new editor comes and see on the date it is not updated and add the same info again (example a goalscorer gets goal added again for the same goal). Thank you.
