HistoryEdit

The constituency was formed in 1995 for the 1998 legislative election, replacing the six previous single-member constituencies: New Territories East and New Territories North, formed for the 1991 election using a dual-seat constituency dual-vote system, and New Territories North, New Territories East, New Territories Northeast, and New Territories Southeast, formed for the 1995 election. From 1985 to 1991, the seats were elected by the electoral colleges composed of the members of the district boards and Regional Council.
