1904 Svenska Mästerskapet Final moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, 1904 Svenska Mästerskapet Final, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three, to be safe. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. Speedy deletion nomination of Category:IK Sleipner matches

A tag has been placed on Category:IK Sleipner matches indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read! Please stop!

Hello, Kaffet i halsen,

Please stop moving pages and renaming articles. We don't have sports teams with "(women)" after the sports name. All of the page moves you made will need to be reverted. Please stop until you become more acquainted with MOS guidelines on page titles and article names as you are selecting incorrect names.

If you have questions, please bring them to the Teahouse. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 06:47, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

@Liz yes, we do: A.S. Roma (women), FC Bayern Munich (women) (and Piteå IF (men)), when teams are representing the same club and use similar outfits. Yes, the examples are football clubs, but the clubs and leagues are structured in the same ways, so they make sense Kaffet i halsen (talk) 06:59, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

Can we converge on John Maddocks page edits

I have added valid extra information about this profile with Citation and links. I don't understand why you are deleting it. Could you please explain?

Thanks WP rahul94 (talk) 10:41, 27 April 2023 (UTC)

I was confused by the linking style. I wonder though if they are the same person? Olympedia and Team GB says Maddocks was born in Reading and Olympedia and Olympics says his name is John Leyshon not John Henry. Einstein Foundation mentions he was an Olympic sailor, although born in Scotland. If this database [1] is correct, he would have been Ph.D. at the age of 23 and three years before his Olympic appearance. Kaffet i halsen (talk) 15:01, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
Hello,
Yes, various sources are bit confusing. But I assure you it's the same person. I did my PhD with him. WP rahul94 (talk) 05:37, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
The fact that you know the person in question, you need reliable sources showing the connection. Kaffet i halsen (talk) 07:56, 28 April 2023 (UTC)

People born in Soviet occupied Baltic states.

Do not add Soviet union as birth place for people born under the Soviet occupation in Baltic states. Baltic states weren't internationally recognised as part of Soviet Union and remained independent states under occupation. Read more State continuity of the Baltic states. Template:Infobox person are using sovereign states only, as the annexation remained internationally unrecognised, sovereignty never went to Soviet union. Baltic states restored their independence, it was a longer progress, for example Estonia issued declaration of sovereignty in 1988, declaring the supremacy of the Estonian laws over the laws of the Soviet Union. On 8 May 1990 the law of discontinuation of the symbols of Soviet occuoation was passed, restoring the usage of Republic of Estonia as the official name was together with the symbols - blue-black-white flag, state anthem etc. Finally on 20 August 1991 total restoration of independence was declared. Speedy deletion nomination of S.V. Cynthia Woods

A tag has been placed on S.V. Cynthia Woods requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Olympics

In the earliest Olympics people were not competing for national teams. For example in 1904 there were people sponsored by or affiliated by various Turners organizations, athletic clubs and the like, mostly in various American cities. In some competitions there may have been multiple teams from the same turner organization, there were people from the same US city (Chicago, St. Louis, New York City etc.) who had come from different athletic organizations in that city. It is anachronistic to describe any competitors in at least the 1896, 1900 and 1904 Olympics as having competed for any country. I am not sure about the status of competitors in 1908. There may be an argument to go with inaccuracy over other complexities. We also want to avoid anachronistically connecting competitors with a country that did not even exist at the time of their Olympic competition. I am not sure I have the answers to these issues, but they need to be considered.John Pack Lambert (talk) 12:55, 15 May 2023 (UTC)

If this is connected the category renaming proposal I submitted yesterday, feel free to post your comment there. The question is what reliable sources say? IOC attributes all result in this event to the United States. Kaffet i halsen (talk) 14:47, 15 May 2023 (UTC)

Singular or plural

Re Category:Sports governing bodies in Africa logos & siblings, I think it was mistaken to rename these using "bodies"; it should be "body", as the singular form is used consistently within Category:Organization logos. – Fayenatic London 11:29, 24 May 2023 (UTC)

@Fayenatic london I must have overlooked Category:Sports governing body logos by continent completely coming from Category:Sports governing bodies in Africa only. Looking in the Category:University and college logos‎ structure, Category:Logos of sports governing bodies in Africa is a possibility. Still plural but works better than Category:Sports governing bodies in Africa logos, Category:Sports governing body logos in Africa or Category:Sports governing body logos of Africa, doesn't it? Kaffet i halsen (talk) 12:08, 24 May 2023 (UTC)
Yes, that would be a possibility, but there are others to be considered alongside it within Category:Sports governing body logos. I suggest having a full discussion rather than using the Speedy page. One advantage of using "Logos of…" is that "SVG logos of…" fits into it very comfortably. – Fayenatic London 12:20, 24 May 2023 (UTC)
I have some work to do following a couple of other category proposals but can look at this after. There is a lot of things going on in Category:Organization logos, Category:Company logos and Category:Sports logos. Kaffet i halsen (talk) 16:18, 24 May 2023 (UTC)
