Re: Mrs. Carter Show Box Office edit

Hello Jennie. First of all I want to say thank you for all you do for Beyonce's articles. Keep up the good work! Hmm, well I actually don't really know. This is the first tour article that I'm editing. I know that Billboard reports every concert by Lady Gaga, Madonna, Rihanna. But I think that maybe it will be updated. Haha, do not worry. And for the box office, you should be patient and check constantly, really. I was so pissed off they didn't update the Diamonds World Tour scorebox during its course, they did it later for all the shows (when the tour finished). Legacy edit

What do you think about this? I kind of trimmed to the most important things and also added some important quotes. Would you be interested in helping me with it a bit? If you want you can edit in the sandbox [remove/add stuff] and then we gonna transfer it to the article. Cheers! — Tomíca(T2ME) 15:47, 15 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

And? I see you didn't make an edit, it is that good :P lol — Tomíca(T2ME) 19:00, 15 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Then we can name the section legacy and impact. I think that would go. And no, I don't think it should be included, because the song was not being notable both commercially and critically. It was there, but I removed it. — Tomíca(T2ME) 19:42, 15 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
I added the information about Spotify announcing she is the most streaming artist. I agree quotes are kind of useless (although it's nice to see some praise for your favorite ;]). And yeah I agree, I looked about her influence on EDM, however, I didn't find anything :/. — Tomíca(T2ME) 19:54, 15 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Feedback Request edit

Hello, I got your name from this list.

Would you please get involved in the article Hog-dog rodeo. As you can read at the following links, Link1 Link2 Hog-Dog Fighting, Hog-Baiting, Hog-Dog Rodeos, Hog dogging, hawg dawgin and hog dog "rodeos" are synonyms for the exact same activity. This article should be moved to "Hog-baiting", so it is inline with the naming convention of the other articles in its classification here. Wikipedia defines Dog baiting as follows:

"setting game dogs against a chained or confined animal for sport. The dogs bite, and tear to subdue the opposing animal by incapacitating or killing it. Baiting is a blood sport used for entertainment and gambling."

This definition fits for Hog-Dog Rodeo, Hog-baiting, Hog-Dawging, or whatever name or idiom you want to call it. It is all the same activity. Please see the two citations I provided above for third-party confirmation. Just because some parts of the world do not call it illegal, does not mean is not Hog-baiting. It is all the same activity, it might be marketed and packaged differently, but it is still the same and fits into the definition of Dog-baiting. Currently, one editor Chrisrus does not like the term "Hog-baiting" and keeps reverting the article, even though I have provided strong third-party citations, he seems to be exerting article ownership and is not displaying a NPOV.

You can read our conversation on the article talk page and see the reverts of the article for the edited changes.

Countdown edit

You've done a great job copy-editing this article. You can also nominate it for GA when you finish. I just wanted to tell you that all Beyoncé FAs and GAs (see "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" and "Halo (Beyoncé Knowles song)) use publishers in the references. I know that during the nominations of those articles, editors always mentioned missing publishers in the references. Are you sure that publishers shouldn't be used in the references? My love is love (talk) 11:46, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) Recently, on my "Diamonds" FAC, I was told that the publishers should be avoided in the references because of their repetition. Being in her older FAC's doesn't mean they could be used in the newer, because every article on Wikipedia tends to be different. :) Cheers! — Tomíca(T2ME) 11:51, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I thought it was mandatory until I nominated Lauryn Hill for GA status. I actually spent a huge amount of time adding every publisher to every reference in on the Beyonce Knowles discography. Both the Template: Cite web and Template:Cite news say that the publisher field should "not normally [be] included for periodicals", I think this stems from the corporate ownership changing so much and not really having much relevance; for example, The Village Voice has changed ownership three times over the past few years. —JennKR | 12:28, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but I've spent a lot of time just adding publishers and going through the references of the articles and fixing them. Anyway, if it's better this way, it's fine. My love is love (talk) 17:18, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
I have one more demand from you. Can you please take a look at Revel Presents: Beyoncé Live, copy-edit the prose and reduce the number of quotes? You can do this whenever you want or whenever you are free and ONLY if you want to do it. I want to nominate it for FA so I would be very grateful for your help. My love is love (talk) 18:05, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Help, please with my RfC? edit

Would you help me, please with RfC: Is inclusion of the word "cosmetic" in the Criteria section appropriate?

I started it after another user undid some changes I made in the Criteria of an assault weapon section of the Federal Assault Weapons Ban article. On my talk page, the user told me that what I'd done was "scrubbing," told me the matter had been discussed previously (implying but not citing a consensus of opinion among article editors), and just generally treated me like I'd not acted in good faith.

I have been a Wikipedia user for many years, and an editor for quite a few, too - though I am not a very experienced one. I'd never been involved in a dispute before that I can remember. When I realized what was going on (after a revert and another undo), I reviewed the Dispute resolution page and chose RfC. Perhaps I chose poorly, but here we are.

Help, please?

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Beyonce Mrs Carter Montreal.png edit

A tag has been placed on File:Beyonce Mrs Carter Montreal.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. LGA talkedits 23:02, 16 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

WP takes copyright very seriously, I will WP:AGF for your reasons behind why you cropped out the copyright watermark on this picture but if you do that sort of thing again you are likely to get blocked. LGA talkedits 23:06, 16 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Beyonce Mrs Carter Montreal.png edit

Thanks for uploading File:Beyonce Mrs Carter Montreal.png, which you've attributed to http://www.flickr.com/. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. LGA talkedits 07:23, 17 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Overlinking edit

Hello JennKR. How are you? Are you ready to nominate "Countdown" for GA? I have to tell you about the last mistakes you did with the references of the article. One publication should be linked only once in the references, not every time it is mentioned. The thing you did last was WP:OVERLINKING. Plus remember that websites should never be italicized. If you put the work field in the references for a publication you should then make it in italics. My love is love (talk) 08:21, 19 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Idolator / 4 edit

You should remove the references that use Idolator from the article since you nominated it at the FAC. Idolator is an unreliable source. My love is love (talk) 20:02, 29 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'm pretty sure. Because it is considered as a blog and blogs are unreliable. But I don't know, maybe you should contact someone else who had more experience with FAs. Don't make the changes until you're 100% sure. My love is love (talk) 20:13, 29 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it is a magazine and it's reliable. I'm pretty sure it can be used. My love is love (talk) 20:27, 29 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
About the picture you used in the Release and artwork I'm 50% sure that it will be deleted as non-free work can not be used on Wikipedia. But I think that you should wait for someone else's opinion; someone who knows better than me. My love is love (talk) 20:31, 29 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry I think there are just some minor issues. You left me speechless with your re-write. It is amazing! I really, really hope it becomes an FA. My love is love (talk) 01:24, 30 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
I must say that the prose of the article is flawless. However I think that there are several publications that will be questioned during the FAC review: The Boombox, Prefix Magazine, Idolator, MTV Buzzworthy, The CS Perspective and Entertainment Focus. I think that you should wait for someone to point it out at the review (if somebody points it out). But in the meantime you can find different sources that could replace them if that happens. This is just my advice. My love is love (talk) 02:48, 30 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
MTV Buzzworthy is totally fine to use, since is part of the MTV publications and even if it's a blog, it's written by a qualified writer. — Tomíca(T2ME) 08:28, 30 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

4 edit

Hey Jenn, just a word of advice: after making significant changes to an article like you did at 4, it often pays to wait a week or two to let the changes "sink in" and so that a more consensual (and therefore, stable) article is reached before nominating at FAC. Stability is a criterion for both GA and FA. Great work on 4, by the way—what a big article to touch up! Adabow (talk) 00:08, 30 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

No need to apologise at all! Good on your for being bold and jumping in the deep end! I just think that there's a possibility some editors may disagree with some or all of a major revamp. That's normal. People have different opinions. If an edit war or a heated talk page discussion arises though, it could seriously hurt the hope for FA promotion. Good luck! Also, if you're feeling up to it, drop a couple of comments in another FAC or two - you never know what you could learn about writing, the FAC process or even just fun facts about a topic! Adabow (talk) 00:58, 30 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (film) edit

Hello JennKR,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (film) for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

Beyonce (2013) edit

Thoughts on Beyoncé guys? Personally, I think it's sheer genius; my favourite B album and one of the best albums in years! —JennKR | 22:47, 13 December 2013 (UTC) @Adabow: @Journalist: @Acalamari: @Lolcakes25: @My love is love: @Tbhotch: @Jivesh boodhun:Reply

Definitely her best album. "Partition", "Mine" and "Superpower" are my favourite tracks, but I love every song! Adabow (talk) 22:57, 13 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
You fooled me at first, JennKR: I thought you'd posted this on the album's talk page, which would have shocked me if you had! :P Since this is your talk page and because you pinged me, I'll answer: I have not heard the album yet but I am looking forward to it and expect it to be excellent, as Beyonce's music always is. :) In the meantime, I'm glad to see that the album's article is developing nicely, so congratulations to you and everyone else working on it! Good work, indeed. :) Acalamari 23:01, 13 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
I was so completely shocked when I woke up at 6am this morning to see her album just on iTunes. The visuals are stunning, I really was blown away. Pretty Hurts touched me especially the video. Pretty Love, XO, ***Flawless, Partition are my favorites, whilst Haunted, Pretty Love and Yoncé are my favorite videos. --Lolcakes25 (talk) 23:03, 13 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
The visuals are fantastic! I listened to the album in one go, then went back and watched all the videos, and now I've returned to it again! I also agree that "Partition" is one of the best, also enjoying "***Flawless", "Haunted" and "Superpower". Sort of surprised that "Grown Woman" was relegated to a video extra and "Standing on the Sun" made no appearance, but I would argue that all fourteen tracks are superior to those. —JennKR | 23:17, 13 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi peeps. Hope you are all doing great. Well, I have only listened to "Mine" as of now and I love it so much. I am very busy in real life but I will try to find some more time to be here as from now. That's a promise. Don't you all think it's worth mentioning in the article about how the press is saying here and there that Beyonce has brought a "change" in the music industry. I mean this information is already there but it does not quite directly hints at it. I also read somewhere that the album caused iTunes website to crash (LOL, is this becoming a habit Beyonce, remember Superbowl anyone? :P )and it has set a new record for the most tweets. I've been in a state of euphoria since I bought this album. At first, I was worried that people wouldn't get what she was was trying to do, and that they would receive it poorly. But I'm glad that I was wrong. Ratings are as follows:
  • "Pretty Hurts"—9/10
  • "Haunted"—8.5/10
  • "Drunk in Love"—9.5/10
  • "Blow"—9/10
  • "No Angel"—8/10
  • "Partition"—9.5/10
  • "Jealous"—8.5/10
  • "Rocket"—7.5/10
  • "Mine"—8.5/10
  • "XO"—9.5/10
  • "Flawless"—9.8/10
  • "Superpower"—10/10
  • "Heaven"—8/10
  • "Blue"—8/10
And the great thing is that the videos aren't just cheap clips like her B'day and Sasha Fierce days. They're epic short films. Love them all. Orane (talk) 22:56, 14 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

On behalf of those who have significantly contributed to the Katy Perry article, just wanted to give a big thank you again for your peer review input! Hi edit

Hi, JennKR. This probably couldn't be incorporated into the Beyoncé article, but I wanted to share this fun fact with you anyway, in case you haven't seen it. There is a new expression, "to pull a Beyoncé" ;) LA TimesMayast (talk) 20:38, 5 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure what to do with the categories. The main problem seems to be that the WikiProject was renamed without any prior consensus – I'm not an expert on all the Wiki policies and guidelines, so I'm not sure if we can reach a consensus for something that already happened? Would be nice to have a time machine ;)
Should we try to notify WikiProject members and ask them to express their opinion to reach consensus? Or just assume that all the interested project members have already done that (that would be just you and me)? — Mayast (talk) 12:30, 6 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

I just saw 4 passed its FAC! Congratulations! I hope we can make Beyoncé's self-titled an FA one day as well. I see that you put a lot of work in 4 and you know better, so I wanted to ask you, could you please lightly review Trouble (Natalia Kills album): I mean, if you could identify some errors and correct structure errors, etc. If you have time and feel like it, please do it on the talk page of the article, if you can't it's OK.   Prism 23:01, 10 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Quick Question edit

Jenn,

Thanks for the rearrangements/simplification you just made on Katy Perry. Before I nominate for GA, I thought I'd ask this: as the peer reviewer, is there anything last things you particularly recommend changing (aside from adding more references to "Achievements" or checking for dead references, which I'm in the middle of doing)? Having gone through this article intricately for the past several months, I feel it is very close to getting back up to GA after being delisted in October 2012. I've probably worked on that article more than any other during my time on Wikipedia. On a side note, I'd be happy to return the favor for you on Beyoncé-related articles.

    • Actually I think that you should wait. First, I'm pretty convinced that the song will be released as a single from the album. Question edit

Hi Jenn! Sorry for bothering you, but I have a question. As you (may) know, I'm prepping up Trouble for its late July/early August FAC and I'm currently restructuring it. In the last month I revamped Perfectionist (another album of Natalia Kills) and included a subsection about its visual aspects, where I summarized each of the music videos and a promotional web series she made for the era as well. Mainly because the visuals were a great part of the album's promotion, and I thought they couldn't be overlooked. I was considering adding a section of Visuals and artwork (similarly to Beyoncé) where I would develop a bit on how each video was made (respecting summary style guidelines, of course) and address their synopsis. Also, a paragraph about the cover art of the album. I think the section would tie in perfectly with the rest of the article as they are mostly inspired by Kills' early life, which is also discussed in the album's lyrics. Since I respect your opinion, could you give your two cents on adding the section? pedro | talk 18:07, 16 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sorry again, but I really need to know whether I should include this section or not. I'm in the final stages of prepping the article for FAC. pedro | talk 00:19, 22 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
@Prism: Did I not reply to this? I definitely typed a reply, give me a sec to see if I have posted it elsewhere, otherwise I'll ping you here and offer my thoughts. Cheers, —JennKR | 00:22, 22 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
@Prism: Firstly, apologies, because I'm certain I typed a reply to this, so I must've not submitted it and have exited the tab thinking I had. I'm assuming this proposition is for Trouble (not Perfectionist) as that is going to FAC soon? If so, I think that's absolutely fine, in fact I think it would more than benefit the article. Remember criteria 1(b) for featured status is comprehensiveness—if the material is available to create such a section, and it meets all the other criteria, then it certainly should be included. Best of luck and message me if you need any assistance! —JennKR | 00:33, 22 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for trimming some of the poorly sourced fancruft in the article. To use a Gigwise source to suggest that Madonna is more influential than Jesus was a ridiculous assertion. Thank you for your additions to the So page, but please don't just destroy other people's additions without some kind of discussion as I like to think I put quite a lot of effort into those edits on this page. Rodericksilly (talk) 15:43, 14 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

I also appreciate your contributions to the article. They are interesting and informative. My only concern was the huge removal of information from the page, which I have never done to any article, and if I did I would fully expect it to be immediately reverted. Rodericksilly (talk) 16:28, 14 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Surely it's OK to use quotes from print media article on Wiki? I've seen plenty on many articles, some on much more serious topics than albums. The quotes were a bit long, I'll grant you that, but they are reviews from professional critics in noted publications. Rodericksilly (talk) 16:48, 14 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Now I have seen your reasoning I can better understand it, so thanks for that. I thought you were a vandal at first. That's what I meant by discussion, I thought that is what the Talk page for the article was for, so you could raise your concerns about the content and its references? Also, I was a bit mystified by your removal of the pop-rock genre, because surely EVERYONE acknowledges, Gabriel himself, that this was the album that truly crossed over into the pop rock mainstream and brought him to a different audience? Rodericksilly (talk) 17:03, 14 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
The AllMusic article on So mentions "pop" several times in addition to his (to quote) "moody art rock", so I would think that was good enough for a source. Rodericksilly (talk) 17:22, 14 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
So using "pop" as a genre would be OK? Rodericksilly (talk) 18:08, 14 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
The magazines are ones I bought and own, as is the 1001 Albums book. I thought the genre pop rock, or at least pop, was OK, since the lede states "Many of its songs reflect a more conventional pop-writing style and became radio hits", and the other genres, art rock and worldbeat, haven't required references. Beyonce edit

Hey, sorry I haven't been around lately. Unfortunately I won't be able to give too much input to the Beyonce article. I hardly log in anymore due to real life constraints, and don't want to delay the process. I will certainly chip in if/when I can, but probably not as frequently enough to have any real collaborative input. So sorry! Orane (talk) 23:58, 23 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Adele edit

Note that there was a reference for "British"; RyanTQuinn removed it and changed it to "English", I restored it, he removed it again and left it at "British", and now it's back at English, unsourced. "British" was sourced with a direct quote from the subject yet it has been removed. Is that what you meant to do? Note that an older discussion on the talk page was in favour of "British" and the subject is of mixed British heritage. Regards, Bretonbanquet (talk) 23:42, 18 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

The fact she has Welsh heritage has no bearing on her nationality, which you could describe as either British or English. The fact is, it's been English for so long I'm wondering why this is only being questioned now. Issues around nationality are contentious and that's why, as it appeared there was edit-warring, that it would be much better to take the issue to the talk page. However, if you think Adele has shown preference to be referred to as British or English, then I believe that preference should be included. Best, —JennKR | 20:29, 19 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Well, her citizenship nationality is British, no question about that, as there is no such thing as English citizenship. As for any finer description beyond that, heritage certainly might have a bearing on it, as Englishness/Welshness/Scottishness basically depends entirely on heritage. The cover-all "British" cannot be wrong because that's what all our passports say we are, whereas English/Welsh or whatever can sometimes be incorrectly assigned. Issues around nationality are indeed contentious, which is why I don't like to see nationalities or particularly sub-nationalities used without anything to substantiate them, however long they've been in the article. The reference that had been inserted contained a quote from Adele saying, "I'm proud to be British", which seems like a pretty solid preference. Are you happy to have that reinstated? Cheers, Bretonbanquet (talk) 02:16, 20 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
No problem! Yes, I agree that it's fine if someone says they're English, consider themselves English or sentiment to that effect, then the lead should undoubtedly say English. I think that any personal quote or statement regarding nationality should be cited and override anything else. But I do think that (just my opinion), where there is any doubt and no long-standing wording, the default should be British. British is also a nationality, mine for example. It guarantees accuracy as all English, Welsh and Scottish people are also, by law, British. But in a sense then, many British people have two nationalities, which is a bit inconvenient for us! JK Rowling is a good example of how seriously many people take this subject and they've reached a proper consensus there, but generally, Wikipedia is very poor at providing guidance for it. There are many editors who like to change nationalities around with nothing to substantiate them, and there's no effective policing of that. But anyway regarding Adele, I did wonder if you thought there was a standard edit war, which is why I came here to check rather than just revert again. Someone brought it up again today on the talk page, and I've responded with a proposal along the lines of what you've said, so hopefully people will have their say there. Cheers, Bretonbanquet (talk) 19:24, 22 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your Recent Edits to Beyoncé (album) edit

Hey, I just wanted to say that you should try to avoid charged language, even if it's seemingly safe, such as "surprising".

@Crossark:: Hey, two things, firstly, my edit never added the content "surprising", if you look at the diff closely, I moved two paragraphs around (so the section flows better) and therefore the language in question alredy existed. Secondly, "surprising" in the article is used in the sense that that the release was unexpected; this is uncontroversial as it isn't making claims about the album's extent of success, it is meant literally.
