Speedy deletion nomination of File:Asad Khan.jpeg edit

A tag has been placed on File:Asad Khan.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File source problem with File:Asad Khan.JPG edit

Thank you for uploading File:Asad Khan.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. damiens.rf 13:32, 28 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Help me edit

Note: I am moving the following from User talk:Fetchcomms. I previously posted an answer there, without noticing that the request for help was not from the owner of the talk page it was posted on. If you want to request help from any editor who checks the list of pending help requests, then you should post a "help me" request here, on your own talk page. If you wish to ask a particular editor (in this case Fetchcomms) for help, then posting on that editor's talk page makes sense, but you should not use the "help me" tag. However, in this case asking Fetchcomms for help is unlikely to be much use, as that editor has not edited for almost two years. Can you please help and guide to write the article on the Indian Sitar artist. I have made the draft but anyhow it is not getting approved. Here is the link of the draft.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Asad_Khan_%28musician%29

This is my first article on Wikipedia. Due to insufficient knowledge of writing this article its not getting approved.

JKhade (talk) 09:05, 2 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • I am leaving your help request open, in case anyone else can add anything helpful, but I will give you my thoughts. I looked at the draft, and checked its references. Almost all of them had one or more of the following problems: (1) not a reliable source; for example, some of them were Wikipedia articles, one was an article not mentioning Asad Khan, but with a mention of him in a blog-like post added by a reader, (2) didn't mention Asad Khan at all, (3) barely mentioned Asad Khan; for example, merely including his name in a list of credits. The only source which gave significant coverage of him was a page at www.germany-and-india.com, but that was just a report on one concert performance, and in any case it was on a web site the purpose of which is to publicise and promote the event that he played at. None of those sources comes anywhere near showing that he satisfies Wikipedia's notability guidelines.
  • Are you sure that he does satisfy the notability guidelines? If he does, then you need to provide references to sources which show that he does, but if he doesn't, then any work you put into the draft will be wasted: while many faults with articles (or draft articles) can be cured by suitable editing, no amount of changing an article can ever change the notability of the subject of the article. I suggest the first thing to do is to carefully check whether there exist sources establishing that he is notable or not. Check the general notability guideline and any other notability guidelines that seem relevant, such as Wikipedia:Notability (people), and the guide to reliable sources.
  • Although it was not given as the reason for the draft being rejected, I also noticed one or two bits of wording which came over as promotional or laudatory, rather than objective reporting from a neutral point of view, such as the use of the word "maestro" and the expression "torch bearer". Thanks for your reply on my query about the Asad Khan Draft above. I have edited it so it will look from neutral point of view. Can you please look on this one more time? This artist is really notable artist and I have personally heard his music and surely he is a notable. I am trying to find the more reliable sources. Will come to this soon. Let me know more if you can guide more on this?

Also I have notices some other artist who are not much notable and not have enough references still they have article about them on the Wikipedia. I wonder how is that possible.

JKhade (talk) 14:36, 4 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

The way to get your draft reviewed is not by placing "helpme" tags, but by clicking the blue "Resubmit" button in the box at the top. That will put it in the queue with the others waiting for review. Unfortunately another user had for some reason removed all the decline notices and comments from the top of the draft. so the "Resubmit" button wasn't visible; I have put them back. They should stay there while the page is in draft: they will be removed if it is accepted for the main encyclopedia.
Saying that you have heard his music and are sure that he is notable does not help: the only test is references showing significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources.
Regarding other articles, see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Out of 5 million articles, many are below the standard we would like, but that is not a reason for allowing more. Each article is considered on its own merits against the standard, not by comparison with others.
A tip: when you refer to a page within Wikipedia, you do not need to give the full URL, just type the page name within double square brackets. So typing [[Draft:Asad Khan (musician)]] gives the wikilink Draft:Asad Khan (musician). JohnCD (talk) 17:56, 4 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
