Speedy deletion of Athletics at the 2000 Summer Olympics - Men's 110 metre hurdles

edit

A tag has been placed on Athletics at the 2000 Summer Olympics - Men's 110 metre hurdles requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Mixed up results?

edit

Hi IARXPHD. There seems to be a mix up of the men's and women's results on Athletics at the 2000 Summer Olympics - Women's 10000 metres – men are listed competing alongside women! Can you fix up the information so that it is correct? Sillyfolkboy (talk) (edits)Join WikiProject Athletics! 19:40, 28 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi. When you recently edited Equestrian at the 2000 Summer Olympics - Show Jumping Individual, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Manuel Torres (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Fencing at the 2000 Summer Olympics – Men's team épée

edit

Hi. I've reverted the change to the above article, as the results aren't even for that event. Switzerland didn't enter in the team event per the source. Also, you're only listing individual fencers, when this isn't an individual event. Thanks. Lugnuts (talk) 09:23, 20 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Again, you've re-added incorrect information. If you are building a more elobrate way to display it, please a) get it correct and b) build it in your userspace/sandbox first. Repeated inclusion of incorrect information will result in it being raised at WP:ANI. Thanks. Lugnuts (talk) 18:04, 20 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Highest Non-Medal finishes

edit

My edits have constantly been undone on the olympic medal totals.

I've have gone through the results of each Olympic Games, which are posted at the LA84 foundation, recording the highest non-medal finishes for each nation who have not yet won a medal. I've also looked at highest non-medal finishes in Winter Games for nations who have won Summer but no Winter medals. I've methodically done this review over almost 2 years in my leisure time. I'm a trained (PhD) researcher, so I'm very careful in these review of each games.

I don't think it's fair to me for these edits to be undone with the weak reasons I've been given up to this time.

Wikipedia needs MORE systematic researchers like me, and less BS typists, if it's going to be an accurate, yet ever evolving center of information.

By definition, your work is "original research". Please read WP:No original research to understand why your uncited contributions are being removed. You need to find a reliable source that has published a table of highest non-medal finishes, and then you can reference that for the All-time Olympic Games medal table article. You cannot use your own synthesis of information from reliable sources; that synthesis must itself come from a reliable source. That policy is what makes Wikipedia an encyclopedia. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 19:26, 18 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Problem edits

edit

Thank you for adding content to the Rowing at the 1996 Summer Olympics – Men's lightweight double sculls article. I had previously reverted your edit because you introduced a number of problems. I'm not sure why you do that. Maybe you don't even notice. Here's a list of the problems for you to reflect on:

  • The article had one inline source. The authoritative source for these kinds of events (Sports Reference). You remove that source.

Sports Reference is a dead site, it has not been worked on for Olympics in 3 years and is slated for deletion.

  • The article had one category. You remove the category from use by putting a colon in front of it, thus leaving an uncategorised article.
  • The article had a navbox. The article is linked from that navbox. You remove that navbox.

I'm not seeing the last 2 things you mention. If you corrected them, thank you.

  • The article has links to a rower; the correct target for an article about rowing. You change those links so that they point to an actor.

The link was fixed to the correct rower.

Why would you do all these things? Schwede66 21:23, 8 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

I put my version in as the prior version was not complete.

What you need to do is edit the live article. Don't replace it with something that you create offline; that will never work and is guaranteed to cause problems. As for Sports Reference, it is not a dead site. It will be replaced with something else and Wikipedia is working with them on a process so that references don't get broken. It would be nice if you could leave those references alone; that will all be taken care of by a bot when it comes to it. Schwede66 10:27, 9 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
