Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, discussion pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; deleting or editing legitimate comments is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Even making spelling and grammatical corrections in others' comments is generally frowned upon, as it tends to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. Publishing

edit

@Ebony Jackson: I'll keep in mind, what you wrote. Making the content understandable for everyone is a tough challenge for me, because I've received different feedbacks. Different people require different level of explanation. Some say, it's self evident, others say it's totally wrong. I've sent it to multiple journals, asking them to review it. Some of them allow content to be published only, if it's not been published elsewhere. It's catch 22. Gmac4247 (talk) 20:29, 20 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Gmac4247. I am coming here from Talk:Area of a circle. Please do not edit old posts on a talk page. Doing so often changes the meaning of other editors' posts, thereby rendering the thread misleading or incomprehensible. If you want to amend what you've posted, then simply add a new post with whatever corrections are needed. Thank you.
Regarding the prior publishing issue, I think that you should not count these Wikipedia talk pages. Lots of people nowadays discuss math on the Internet before publishing it. Just go ahead, submit your research for peer review, get it published, and then we can figure out whether it should be in Wikipedia. :)
Meanwhile, Wikipedia talk pages are specifically about edits to Wikipedia articles. Until your work is published, there is nothing to discuss about it on Wikipedia. If you want to discuss your ideas on the Internet before publishing, consider the site Math Overflow.
Best wishes. Mgnbar (talk) 22:01, 23 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Talk page usage

edit

Hi, Gmac4247. At Talk:Area of a circle, you have just edited some of your old posts. Please do not do that. Please just add new posts at the bottom.

It is especially important that you not edit posts after other editors have already responded to them. Doing so changes the context for those responses. It sometimes changes the meaning of those responses. It makes the conversation hard to read. Regards, Mgnbar (talk) 11:16, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I get it. I agree. But half of the content was deleted somehow. That changed the context alright. Instead of reverting, I just mended it, with keeping the context. Regards, Gmac4247 (talk) 09:20, 16 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
No, those posts were not deleted. They were moved to archives, you can find them at Talk:Area of a circle/Archive 3. --CiaPan (talk) 12:23, 16 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please refrain from using talk pages such as Talk:Cone for general discussion of this or other topics. They are for discussion related to improving the article in specific ways, based on reliable sources and the project policies and guidelines; they are not for use as a forum or chat room. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. See the talk page guidelines for more information. Thank you. MrOllie (talk) 16:20, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

I understand your concern, but most folks look up the encyclopedia to find helpful content. The WP guidelines are meant to ensure, that they get it. The volume of a cone is a fine example of the straight opposite of that. Please take some time and consider, how in the world could be the volume of a cone base*height/3? Look at its vertical cross section. It's an isosceles triangle. Look at its vertical cross section in a cylinder. It can be divided into 2 identical size triangles. Turn it around 180°, you get the cone in the cylinder. Equal cross section means equal volume. V=base*height/2. So thanks for reminding me, but I'm busy trying to improve the article. In my understanding, that is exactly what the talk page is for. Talking about the subject. Gmac4247 (talk) 16:38, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

The area of the base can be calculated as 3.2 radius².

The circle is cut into 4 quadrants, each placed with their origos on the vertices of a square. When the arcs of the quadrant circles intersect at the quarter of the centerline of the square, their combined area equals area of the square. The ratio between the radius of the circle and the side of the square can be calculated using the Pythagorean theorem. The area of the circle equals 16 times the right triangle, with legs of a/4 and a/2. A=16/5r².

The volume of a cone = 1.6r²height .

Gmac4247 (talk) 12:12, 4 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

The volume of a tetrahedron can be calculated using the same methodology as the cone:
Volume=Area of base * height / 2 . (√(1/32)edge³)
If it was base*height/3, ((√2/12)edge³) the volume of the tetrahedron should fit more, than 8 times in a cube, with the same length of edge, which is obviously impossible.
