Proposed deletion of Fahmi Salem Said Al Sani edit

The article Fahmi Salem Said Al Sani has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Seems like a classic case of WP:BLP1E to me....all of these articles should be merged/redirected to an appropriate Guantanomo article.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Orphaned non-free media (File:Sabar Lal Melma.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Sabar Lal Melma.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:23, 10 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Ahmed Belbacha.jpg edit

A tag has been placed on File:Ahmed Belbacha.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{non-free fair use in|article name that the file is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. DBigXray 13:18, 11 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'm surprised this AfD didn't get relisted and went strait to deletion. It seems to me that X-ray makes a point of nominating lightly sourced detainee articles and stubs and then grouping better articles together with that one (often with a disregard for whether their inclusion is germaine to the original AfD or not). I'm tempted to take these to Wikipedia:Deletion review or Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard but I don't know that I have the energy to do it. These are real borderline cases of notability and/or bad-faith edits. What do you think? --Joshuaism (talk) 15:31, 2 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Moheb Ullah Borekzai edit

Hi Geo, i saw you added “DoD claims he returned to supporting terrorism” to this biography. I do not think that is the case. Could you please point me to the relevant reference or correct the error? Gyrojeff (talk) 00:10, 31 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

No problem. Moheb Ullah Borekzai, or something like this, is how the Associated Press transliterated his name. The DoD never used this transliteration. It is pretty common for the DoD to never actually learn to use the captives actual names. They called him "Mohibullah" or "Muhebullah", or "mohib ullah".
He wasn't the only captive the DoD held in Guantanamo named Mohibullah, or reasonable equivalent. If you check page 5 of http://www.webcitation.org/query?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmedia.miamiherald.com%2Fsmedia%2F2009%2F05%2F27%2F20%2Frecidivists.source.prod_affiliate.56.pdf&date=2009-05-29 you will see that a captive named Muhibullah, repatriated in July 2005, was suspected of recidivism. It is the July 2005 that clinches it. It you check Guantanamo release timeline, you will see that eight captives were repatriated in July 2005. Seven of them were repatriated on 2005-7-19. Two of them were Afghans. We know Afghan Habib Rasool was repatriated with Moheb Ullah Borekzai. So, when the DoD says he was repatriated with "Muhibullah", we know this is the Mohibullah whose real name was Moheb Ullah Borekzai.
What does this mean? I think it means no corrections are necessary. Were you thinking some kind of rewrite was in order? What did you have in mind?
Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 00:32, 31 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, for explaining about name differences although i understood this already form reading the article.
You say: "No problem" but i think it is a big problem as your claim could negatively affect the life of this person. Extraordinary negative claims like this can have extreme negative impact on the life of people.
Looking at the given references, to me it seems to be clear that they do not support your claim “DoD claims he returned to supporting terrorism”. Nor do other sources [1] support this. You still do not see the problem? Gyrojeff (talk) 01:42, 31 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • It is not my claim. It is US intelligence analysts who first made these claims of recidivism. If you don`t think the DIA claimed this you might find it worthwhile to try reading those references again.
I suggest that whether you or I don`t find the DIA claims convincing is irrelevant since RS have analyzed this claim, and repeated this claim.
As to whether it is best for individuals like Borekzai, and the other individuals named as recidivists, for the wikipedia to be silent about the RS that repeat and extend this claim. Has it occurred to you that it would be in these individuals best interest to have a source trusted for its neutrality and balance give a neutral and balanced coverage of the claims... You reached your own conclusion. Why wouldn`t you trust that the wikipedia`s readers to draw their own conclusions...
I`ll be frank. A former contributor, User:Iqinn, who was indefinitely blocked for edit warring, voiced exactly the same concerns you just voiced. One of the individuals who used the Iqinn ID used exactly the same wording you used.
I`ll be frank, I can`t help wondering whether you aren`t one of the individuals who used that ID.
If you are one of the individuals behind the Iqinn ID I will remind you of what I wrote on your former talk page. Although I could just ignore your views, I won`t do that. So long as you are civil, and respectful, and what you write makes sense I will take your concerns into account. Although we often disagreed I never thought you were wrong 100 percent of the time.
If you are Iqinn I`d advise you to abide by your block. There are other WMF projects, and other non-WMF wikis. There is no reason why you shouldn`t feel free to contribute there. You claimed to be fluent in 6 languages. Well you remain free to contribute at the wikis for those other 5 languages.
If you want to share your insights and concerns with me you can email me. I`ll respond on your talk page. Alternately, leave your comments on your talk page, and send me a heads-up via email, and I will respond there. Geo Swan (talk) 04:01, 31 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Your wall of words do not make sense to me. I have ask other people for help Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard (archived) as you could not provide a reference that would support this negative claim. Gyrojeff (talk) 04:35, 31 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
