Disambiguation link notification for September 17
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 2019 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Jack Barry (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

editHi there. I'm confused as to why Niall Quinn was assessed as part of the WikiProject Gaelic games. Could you shed some light? Robby.is.on (talk) 16:13, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

editAttribution kitten
editI just want to say thank you for performing proper attribution on the Derry GAA article of the content you've moved out to other articles. Most people don't realize it needs to be attributed and it often leads to messy situations. You're aware and you're following proper attribution, so thank you very much for that and your other hard work. It's very much appreciated.

- Thank you for that. The Derry GAA article isn't too bad but some of the others were certainly getting a little overcrowded. --Gaois (talk) 23:25, 5 November 2020 (UTC)

editHiya. Do we need this EL? The same source is used as an inline reference. For the sentence which reads "The Gaelic Athletic Association publishes and maintains a set of guidelines for the appointment of managers". I'm personally not sure it adds much to link it again... Mark Anthony McGinley
edit@Gaois:, I've reverted the copy-paste move at Mark Anthony McGinley but sadly the RMT forum created a mess for me. I had to swap it twice, to preserve the history. Fixed everything at Mark Anthony McGinley. I'm bad at cleanup, so please see if there's any thing left. ─ The Aafī (talk) 10:59, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

Mayo county ladies' football team
editTalk me through the infobox removal edit, social media removal I understand but the rest of the original infobox was objective and had more pertinent info than the cutback version you've replaced it with.
- Sorry about that. I returned the 'competitions' and 'titles'. They're not faciliated in the other infobox but they don't seem to have any problems. Good work! :) --Gaois (talk) 02:01, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the editing help. Can I ask why the county team template is the preferred infobox used? Could an alternative be proposed for the ladies county team pages (Mayo, Cork, Dublin, etc) or does it need to be that particular template?
- I suppose one would be easier to manage than two or several. What alternative do you propose? Is there a part of the county team template that you don't like? --Gaois (talk) 02:37, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
As the jerseys are changed every year, i'd say it would be easier to maintain if there was a kit section in the body of the text rather than the infobox. I've thrown up an alternative on the Mayo page, feel free to undo it if you think its too messy. We could have both infoboxes in, with the top outlining the sport in a generic manner, and the bottom with the basic info, personnel and title sections together.
- I agree with you about the jerseys. It is worse than the county team infobox though, as it also affects the county board infobox. But the county board doesn't wear jerseys and the different sports can (or have had) different sponsorship deals. Now it seems the Offaly county camogie team has launched its own jerseys. I have removed the jerseys from the county board infobox but left them as an option in the county team infobox. I think I have accounted for every jersey (I have included the Irish kits in at least one team from each county and used the football kit box template for counties outside Ireland). --Gaois (talk) 03:03, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Notability (sports)
editYou asked if your edit changed the meaning, the reason most of the guidelines say Players is to differentiate between Players and coaches or officials etc. The 3rd point for example with your change to figures would allow for coaches etc to be notable, when before it was restricted to players. -DJSasso (talk) 15:18, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
- I got the word "figures" from the other examples, such as "tennis figures", "golf figures"... there is even "figure skating figures". All these refer to people who have to have "competed" or "won" something, so there is no mention of coaches or officials.
- The third point still says "has played" (as does the first point). No coach or official would be allowed (unless they had played). This is the same restriction as before. At least that's what it looks like to me. Am I missing something? --Gaois (talk) 01:24, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
- Since the confusion seems to have come from linking the competitions I have made it clear again now that they are players. --Gaois (talk) 03:54, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

Hello,
Just as a follow up to my revert, I know that templates for sports teams often try to match team colors to the background colors used on the templates. We can do our best to approximate those colors, but WP:ACCESSIBILITY comes before aesthetic choices. For red colors with a white font, the brightest color red that works is #B60000 (see MOS:COLORS). EvergreenFir (talk) 16:27, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
- OK. Thanks for the advice. I'll fix the other navboxes later, so that they're all the same. --Gaois (talk) 16:31, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

Peter Kelly (hurler)
editI noticed that you changed the link for "Peter Kelly (hurler)" into a link to a disambiguation page. I fail to understand why. Now we have a template (Template:Galway Minor Hurling Team 1992) pointing to a disambiguation page. Can you solve this issue? The Banner talk 09:21, 8 July 2022 (UTC)
- Certes has performed the disambiguation. There is an existing Peter Kelly (Dublin hurler). That suggested there was more than one. You have confirmed this. :) --Gaois (talk) 17:19, 8 July 2022 (UTC)
Hello, Gaois,
It would be great if when you tagged a page for deletion, you posted a notification on the talk page of the page creator. This is done easily if you use Twinkle to tag pages for deletion (CSD, PROD, AFD/TFD/CFD/etc.). If you set your Twinkle Preferences to "Notify page creator", then Twinke will post these notices for you when you tag a page for deletion. It also means you don't have to memorize a lot of templates and wiki codes and Twinkle has lots of other great features like reporting vandals to noticeboards, tag articles for problems that exist or post warnings on editor's talk pages. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 20:56, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
- Hello. Thank you for this information. I am not very familiar with Twinkle. When I have posted notifications to the talk page of the article creator I have tried to be careful how I phrase it in case the user is offended and does not want to solve the problem, e.g. here. Hopefully Twinkle will allow this too. I must investigate it. Thanks. --Gaois (talk) 21:39, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
I am puzzled
editI am puzzled by this edit. The article has moved. The rationale needs to reflect the current title.
Am I missing something?
Or did you make a mistake? If so, please revert your edit. Andrewa (talk) 04:23, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
- I too am puzzled. I don't even remember making any edit to that file. I also requested the move. I will revert. --Gaois (talk) 04:25, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
- Curious. Possible glitch with Twinkle... do you use it?
- Thanks for fixing it. Andrewa (talk) 05:35, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry about that. Twinkie? That's interesting. I doubt I would have identified that as the problem, at least not so quickly. I began to use it because I was asked, though I had been managing without it. But (as soon as I tried it, once) I am approached about other edits I cannot account for. It has also coincided with lots of options I don't need ("warn"/"welcome user", things I rarely do) appearing at the top of every page (where the "history" and "watch" options usually are). I don't think Twinkie is for me. --Gaois (talk) 20:40, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
- Um... how do you get rid of Twinkle? --Gaois (talk) 20:44, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
- Think I've managed to knock it off now. --Gaois (talk) 20:51, 27 August 2022 (UTC)

I'm also puzzled by this edit/revert. The subject is clearly a footballer (a person) and not a football (a piece of sports equipment). Another Twinkle "glitch"? (While another editor has since (re)corrected the factual error, if a tool you are using is "misfiring", you may want to take a quick look at that...) Guliolopez (talk) 10:54, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
- You're right. That is clearly not a piece of sports equipment. While I worked on it a bit the day before I certainly didn't edit it yesterday (Though it seems I did. To turn him into a piece of sports equipment.) No more Twinkle. --Gaois (talk) 20:40, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
St James's GAA
editI noticed that you created the disambiguation page St James's GAA. Do you mind to solve the links pointing to this page? The Banner talk 13:00, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

- Done. --Gaois (talk) 20:35, 31 August 2022 (UTC)
Please check if there are links left when you redirect to disambiguation pages
editThere are still a lot of links to disambiguation pages left after your edit at Tom Ryan (hurler). Including five in templates. Fix that ASAP. And please, check when you are redirecting to a disambiguation page if there are incoming links left. I have been repairing a lot of them in the past but it becomes a bit annoying now. The Banner talk 09:12, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry, I hadn't realised you were routinely doing this. There is no need to repair them. I have been taking note and intend to fix them as I go along. This might be hours or days later but the intention is to fix them. Please don't be annoyed. The edit only reveals that the disambiguation on the templates is incomplete. --Gaois (talk) 13:05, 3 September 2022 (UTC)

Colour contrast policy
editHi Gaois, there is a policy about text contrast against its background colour at MOS:COLOR. The minimum requirement is WCAG 2.0's AA rating (described here), which is a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1 for text of the size seen in navboxes. (Firefox and Chrome both also have a checker in their developer tools.) If the template is categorized into Category:Potentially illegible navboxes, then the colours are wrong and need to be made more different in luminance. Template:Brazil national football team as mentioned in your edit summary is not OK either. User:GKFXtalk 21:45, 4 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the category - I didn't know it existed. I will check the luminance again. --Gaois (talk) 14:10, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
- They are no longer in the category. --Gaois (talk) 19:05, 5 December 2022 (UTC)

The article Tim Floyd (sports administrator) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
No indication that subject meets WP:GNG or WP:NBIO. Sports administrators are not inherently notable and the only content and coverage relates to quotes and run-of-the-mill activities undertaken by the subject as part of his role/job. There is no biographical information and none of the sources are "about" the subject?
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Guliolopez (talk) 11:46, 2 February 2024 (UTC)
