Question from Tyri Hansen (23:47, 26 December 2023)
Latest comment: 5 months ago2 comments2 people in discussion
Hey, Ferien:
My real name is Per Flaatten; I have logged in under a pen name, namely Tyri Hansen, which is completely fictitious; Tyrihans is the protagonist of a Norwegian a folktale of the same name. Tyrihans is basically, a male Cinderella, but the story is not as romantic as Cinderella's; rather, it's more of a comic mishap kind of thing. His reward, however, is the princess and half of the kingdom.
Anyway, I do not expect you to solve my problem, but how can I get help, since i can't even login. I have not found a category of communication, nor of role that can help, except for the name of the mentor (You!) assigned to my fake name.
I am Norwegian, but also fluent in English and French, I have a university degree and I'm 78 and retired.
In advance, thank you for ?any? help you may provide.
Hi Tyri Hansen, welcome! You messaged this to me on your account, as your first edit to Wikipedia, to my talk page, so you should be logged in? Happy new year to you too, and apologies for my somewhat late response. --Ferien (talk) 14:04, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

Hello,
I would like to understand why I cannot upload an image of a public figure I found on the internet to enhance their page. Is there a way to use this image under the fair use policy?
Hi RajuGosling, welcome to Wikipedia. Most images you will find of public figures on the internet will be copyrighted and therefore cannot be uploaded here. Generally, you should only upload your own work. However, non-free content can be used under certain conditions, that can be seen at Wikipedia:Non-free content#Policy 2. If you have any other questions, feel free to send me a message. Thanks! --Ferien (talk) 16:17, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi Ferien!
I am copying and pasting the same message added to your talk page in Simple English wikipedia here too. The reason is that there are lots of related templates, found in Regular English wikipedia but lacking in Simple English wikipedia, which affect the appearance of the script in the desktop screen.
Could you please check the same following fonts?
Recently, I noticed a template that creates a difference between the appearance of Meitei script in desktop screen of people living outside Indian subcontinent. Could you please tell me which of the following are visible properly in your computer screen?
(1) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - plainly written without the template
(2) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written without the template but with double brackets
(3) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written with the template, without double brackets, as Mtei
(4) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written with the template as well as double brackets, as Mtei
(5) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written with the template, with double brackets, but by lowering the letter "S" as "s", but with correct Meitei script code "Mtei", as Mtei
(6) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written with the template as well as double brackets, but by lowering the letter "S" as "s", but with correct Meitei script code "Mtei", as Mtei
(7) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written with the template without double brackets, but by lowering the letter "S" as "s", as well as wrong Meitei script code "mtei", as mtei
(8) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written with the template as well as double brackets, but by lowering the letter "S" as "s", as well as wrong Meitei script code "mtei", as mtei

Hi @Chesca1911: welcome to Wikipedia! There is a difference between earwitness and eyewitness. If the sources say she was an eyewitness to her death then yes it should be changed, but if it is indeed earwitness then it should stay as it is, as that is what the sources say. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 19:53, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

Thank you! How are my edits accepted? I made an edit to a page for which I am knowledgeable. However, I did not realize it was this easy. Will my edits remain? What validation process exists and who manages this? Thank you!! --Jcs76 (talk) 16:36, 6 February 2024 (UTC)

Hello, I'm trying to correct an edit made in this page with the "statistics" section. It originally included rankings of the tournament teams that have all been eliminated. However it was recently edited to omit this information, I'm looking for tips on how to re-edit this to include the original information as well as the updates on said rankings list --DomeWritePls (talk) 02:37, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
Hi there DomeWritePls, welcome to Wikipedia. Sorry for the late response. You can go to the history of the article to see when the information was removed, and find out why it was removed. You then may be able to revert it by using undo, although it's likely you'll have to copy the text directly. You can see which text has been removed by using the prev button on the history. I hope this helps, please let me know if you need any more help. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 18:52, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi Ferien, I want to add a book (biography) to an article about my father in wikipedia. How do I create the heading "Books" ? Thanks Emmanuelle --Leeecco7 (talk) 21:19, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
In Source editor, there will be a drop-down called "Advanced". Click on it, and you'll see Heading as the first tab, with levels 2 to 5.
In Visual editor, there is a drop-down box with Paragraph set to default. Click on it, and choose the heading size you prefer.
Hi Leeecco7, welcome to Wikipedia! I think Muonsneutrino has already given the answer you're looking for above, but if you need any more help, please feel free to let me know. Thanks! --Ferien (talk) 19:30, 3 March 2024 (UTC)

Hi there, I am VERY new to all of this so please go easy on me! This is going to sound insane, but how would I format a date of birth when the month and day of birth is known, but the actual year is uncertain? The individual I'm working on was born on either November 14th, 1868 OR November 14th, 1875. My sources are conflicting, unfortunately. His marriage certificate states Nov. 14th, 1868, meanwhile his death certificate states Nov. 14th, 1875. I am not able to discern which of these years is actually correct. Would one simply exclude the month and day in favor of putting 1868-1875, or is there a better way to go about this to preserve his birth month/day?
Hi Egglions, welcome to Wikipedia and apologies for my slow response. I would format it as November 14, 1868 or 1875, similar to how it is done in Kim Jong Un, using a note to state the different sources showing different things. Let me know if you have any other questions or need any more help. Thanks! :) --Ferien (talk) 20:55, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

I created a page for Riverwalk Academy, but I wasn't sure how to add citations. I added links to internal and external cites, but wasn't sure if there was additional citing/references that I needed to include. --Dr.RobertCompton (talk) 01:06, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
Hi Dr.RobertCompton, welcome to Wikipedia. Citations are usually added with templates like cite web that makes citations appear properly. Articles should also have sources from secondary sources to prove their notability. Also, editors are strongly discouraged from editing/creating articles on topics they have connections to, per our conflict of interest guideline. Please let me know if you need any more help. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 15:27, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
How to publish the topic I edited

Hello, for a class project, I'm required to make 15 edits to topics related to my research. None of my edits are being accepted, and I am at a loss for how to get anything accepted. I have tried to make sure my edits do not have a bias and use reliable sources. I have even tried to simplify my edits in the hope that some would be accepted, but are all immediately reverted by the same user. --Caaskoe (talk) 16:24, 20 March 2024 (UTC)

Hi, I wanted to ask something. I have an article that I want to upload but when I go to create it it says that it has been deleted a number of times. The article is just a battle I wanted to add. Shall I upload it anyway or not? --TakuyaYagami (talk) 20:10, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
Hi, I just checked, and it got deleted twice due to G5 Twice. Can i still try to make an article on it or not? I don't want to get in any trouble. Thanks. TakuyaYagami (talk) 19:01, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
TakuyaYagami, G5 applies for articles that were created by a user evading their ban or block. As long as this is your first account, and you weren't told to create this article by another editor, you are probably alright to create it, however it needs to meet notability guidelines. --Ferien (talk) 20:14, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

Hi Ferien! I'm having some trouble with a page I'm trying to update about philosopher Gustaf Arrhenius. I don't understand whether the draft is published or under review. Previously there was a big yellow notice that said something like "This draft is under review, please be patient" but now there is no such message, but the page is still titled "Draft:Gustaf Arrhenius". --Kaede118 (talk) 07:09, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
Hi Kaede118! Someone else used content translation to convert an article about the same person into a draft, which replaced what you had already written, including the Articles for Creation templates. I've reverted back to the version that was there before. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 20:21, 6 April 2024 (UTC)

Hello, Ferien. I just finished writing a Wikipedia article. When I tried publishing the article, it said that it was unconstructive. What am I doing wrong? --CandleWickipedia (talk) 23:07, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
Hi CandleWickipedia, welcome to Wikipedia. As Ohnoitsjamie pointed out, the YouTuber you attempted to create the page on was not notable. Please do not attempt to create the page for this person again, as they fail Wikipedia's notability guidelines. Please let me know if you need any more help. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 14:29, 13 April 2024 (UTC)
Good evening CandleWickipedia, in my opinion, no, as there is not significant coverage in reliable, independent sources, per the general notability guideline. He also doesn't meet WP:ENT, the notability guideline for entertainers. You may find this page helpful for determining whether YouTubers meet our notability guidelines. It focuses on the notability guidelines that surround YouTubers, often "GNG" (General Notability Guideline) and "ENT" as I have already mentioned, and also gives an ongoing tally of Article for Deletion discussions on YouTuber articles, whether they resulted in keep/delete, the year, subscriber counts etc. Let me know if that helps, and if you have any more questions. Thanks :) --Ferien (talk) 21:18, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

I would like to add images to several different Wiki page. I have added some images already to the wiki commons page but when I add the provided provided link text to the wiki page the image appear inside a sub table within the right hand image table. I am familiar with HTML but I can't figure out how to fix this. --Esteroinfo (talk) 20:51, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
Sure, all 4 photos should appear above the single photo that is currently on the Estero, Florida Wiki page. I plan on adding a few more photos to that page (such as of the Hertz Arena which is in Estero as well as civic parks, as well as to the wiki pages of the various other South West Florida cities and towns once I learn how it is done. Thanks for your help.
Esteroinfo, hi, we don't usually format images like that in infoboxes. Instead multiple image is used to arrange the images automatically. Let me know how using that works, and if you need more help, feel free to let me know! --Ferien (talk) 15:53, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi Ferien - I created an article in 2008, but although I entered my username and password today, these were no longer recognized. I now have new credentials. Do I need to create a draft article this time or is it possible to skip the draft? If you can't answer this, can you direct me to where I should ask? Thank you very much! --Meekpanda (talk) 19:03, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
Hi Meekpanda, as your new account isn't autoconfirmed yet, you aren't able to create any new articles without skipping articles for creation.
