week 3/ New citations/Lewis9763

1. citations have been made :https://www.smartshanghai.com/articles/activities/the-shanghai-go-karting-guide%7Caccess-date=2020-07-25 2. diff link : https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kart_racing&diff=prev&oldid=969466535 3. New findings of go kart racing have now enter the Chinese market Lewis9763 (talk) 16:16, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

Lewis9763, Interesting addition you added, something I learned in the process. You are current. FULBERT (talk) 01:11, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Week 1/ Introduction/ Ikhan94

Dear Professor Fulbert, My name is Imran and I look forward to working on these extra credit assignments. Ikhan94 (talk) 21:45, 26 July 2020 (UTC)

Ikhan94, Welcome to our efforts here on Wikipedia! FULBERT (talk) 01:26, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Week 2/ Evaluate an article/ Ikhan94

1. I chose to evaluate the article on Violas and found that the information on the article is well-presented for the most part, but is missing crucial information such as the origins of the instrument.

2. User:Ikhan94/Evaluate an Article

3. Talk:Viola

4. Added missing commas and changed colours to colors to conform with how the word is spelled in the rest of the article https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Viola&type=revision&diff=969708514&oldid=968489736

5. I learned that even though Wikipedia articles can give a good overview of a topic, it can be missing key components in a way that is not meant to mislead readers, but rather an oversight on the article itself that is waiting for a proper contribution. Ikhan94 (talk) 00:05, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Ikhan94, Interesting article. One thing related to Bristish or American English, in general it is suggested that they are consistent in usage throughout, something that we can discuss more in class. Fine for now, and you are current. FULBERT (talk) 01:29, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Week 3/ Adding a citation/ Ikhan94

1. I added a citation to the Game article for a sentence that was marked as citation needed. I also edited the sentence as some of what was claimed was unable to be verified and sounded more like an opinion.

2. Game: Difference between revisions

3. I learned that it is very easy to assume every claim on a Wikipedia article is cited with evidence and assume the information presented as fact rather than opinion. Ikhan94 (talk) 00:38, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Ikhan94, Nice edit and a good reason for making it based on the citation needed tag. Current for Week 3. FULBERT (talk) 01:33, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Wikidata weekly summary #426

week 2/EBITDA/Aaronlai23

1. The wiki page I edit is EBITDA (Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization). This topic is what I have leant about in my accounting course. I understand more clearly about the definition and usage of EBITDA in company's valuation. 2.https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Earnings_before_interest,_taxes,_depreciation,_and_amortization&oldid=967742802 3. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Earnings_before_interest,_taxes,_depreciation,_and_amortization#EBIT_v_EBITDA 4.https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Earnings_before_interest,_taxes,_depreciation,_and_amortization&action=editAaronlai23 (talk) 02:53, 27 July 2020 (UTC) 5.I leant how to edit the wiki page and how to discuss with other on the talk page.

Aaronlai23 Please remember to sign each of your posts using four tilde characters ~~~~ at the end. Do this as a reply and then ping me here, and then I will take a look at it and reply. --- FULBERT (talk) 15:43, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
Aaronlai23 (talk) 02:53, 27 July 2020 (UTC) FULBERT
Aaronlai23, Great. Week 2 is now current. FULBERT (talk) 22:25, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Week 3/ Add Citation/ Yixin97

1. I added a citation to the Commercialization of the Internet to support the challenge of Internet commercialization.

2. The link to the diff: Commercialization of the Internet: Difference between revisions

3. From this practice, I realized the importance of citation. Although wiki is a free platform for creating articles, we should be responsible for the authenticity of the information. Therefore, all the information should be from a reliable secondary source. Yixin97 (talk) 21:36, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

Yixin97, The citation is fine, though per the assignment, "Beyond adding a citation alone, make sure to provide a sentence or two to express your contribution in context (which the citation will support) to demonstrate how it adds to the knowledge in the article," please add a sentence or two of your own which will add to the article and help explain the ctiation you added. Please reply to me here when you are done and I will review. FULBERT (talk) 01:14, 27 July 2020 (UTC)
FULBERT The new link to the diff: Commercialization of the Internet: Difference between revisions I added four main reasons why the commercialization of Internet is going well. Yixin97 (talk) 02:17, 27 July 2020 (UTC)
Yixin97, Nice adds. Current. FULBERT (talk) 22:26, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Week 1 / Introduction / Yilei Yu (yy1332)

Hi, Prof.K. This is my week 1 Wikipedia assignment. My topic is about how can the lawmaker come up with new guidelines due to the legalization of Marijuana in the United States. Yyl217 (talk) 19:26, 26 July 2020 (UTC)

Yyl217, You did not sign up for this work through the WikiEdu dashboard, per the initial instructions. Join the course dashboard and take the trainings there and then ping me again here and I will review. FULBERT (talk) 01:24, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for your feedback. I have now completed all the training.Yyl217 (talk) 03:33, 27 July 2020 (UTC) @FULBERT: Here is a ping.

Yyl217 Please be sure to ping or mention a person you are replying to at the beginning of the reply. Be sure to indent replies using the colon (:) for each level of indent. You are now current. --- FULBERT (talk) 22:34, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Week 1/ Introduction/ Yaluys

Hi professor, I am Yalu Su from your 1260 course. Looking forward to finishing those Wikipedia tasks in this summer! Yaluys (talk) 02:46, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Yaluys, Welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you will find the editing informative and useful! FULBERT (talk) 22:38, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Week 2/ Evaluate an article/ Yaluys

1. The article I evaluated is Tokyo Ghoul, it's one of my favorite Japanese animations. This article is rated c-class and low importance. It is generally a good introduction article with spaces to improve like adding some information about relevant works (music video, film productions).

2. The link to my article evaluation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Yaluys/Evaluate_an_Article

3. The link to the Talk page where I offered a comment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Tokyo_Ghoul

4. The link to the diff of the article I copyedited: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tokyo_Ghoul&diff=969734338&oldid=968761142

5. It's interesting to find the missing information in a topic/article that has been revised for years and it's important to keep my edit works to align with others' works(contributions) or the logic of the topic. Yaluys (talk) 03:40, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Yaluys, Great for Week 2's assignment. Current. FULBERT (talk) 22:41, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Week 3 / Add citation / Yaluys

1. I added a citation to the Tokyo Ghoul article where I added new information about the music videos and the composer.

2. Link to diff: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tokyo_Ghoul&diff=969734338&oldid=968761142

3. I learned that the information used in different topics are actually connected and deserved to be reviewed all the time for any updates. Yaluys (talk) 03:49, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Yaluys, I would ordinarily revert these edits with a message similar to: "The source used here does not fulfill the Wikipedia policy of using reliable, third party WP:INDEPENDENT published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy WP:RELIABLE." Please find a more reliable source and the ping me again here when done. FULBERT (talk) 22:49, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Week 2 / Article Evaluation / Yilei Yu

1. The article I evaluated is Motorcycle. I am a motorcycle rider myself, and this article interests me a lot. However, I think this article needs more information regarding the different classes of motorcycles as well as the racing aspect of the motorcycle.

2. LINK Evaluate an Article

3. The link to the Talk page where I offered a comment: LINK

4. The link to the diff of the article I copyedited: LINK

5. What I learned is that now I started to understand why Wikipedia is not considered a reliable source since it could be easily modified by anyone. Yyl217 (talk) 20:20, 26 July 2020 (UTC)

Yyl217, Complete what I asked for in Week 1 and reply here once done. FULBERT (talk) 01:25, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for your feedback. I have now completed all the training.Yyl217 (talk) 03:34, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Yyl217, Be sure to select and assign yourself the article before you begin copyediting. Assign yourself the article you edited and then ping me here. FULBERT (talk) 22:36, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

@FULBERT: I am just finished assigning myself an article. Sorry about my confusion about the process. Yyl217 (talk) 01:38, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Yyl217, Great! You are now current. FULBERT (talk) 01:35, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Week 4/ Add 2 Citations/ Yixin97

This week, I assigned two new articles: Information leakage and White hat (computer security). I added a citation to define the term of information leakage and find what factors cause the leakage. In addition, I found a citation about the importance of a good white hat.

The link to the diff1: Information leakage: Difference between revisions

The link to the diff2: White hat (computer security): Difference between revisions

From this practice, I found these two articles were not comprehensive enough so I added two citations to make contents more complete.Yixin97 (talk) 02:12, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Yixin97, Good adds on both. Current with this week. FULBERT (talk) 15:22, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Week 3/ Add Citation/ Aaronlai23 (talk)

1. I added a citation to the : Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization

2. The link to the diff: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earnings_before_interest,_taxes,_depreciation,_and_amortization#Margin FULBERT

3. From this practice, I learned how to make and edit credible citations to the part of the information. This process enhance my skills by reading more resources and applying changes.Aaronlai23 (talk) 02:57, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Aaronlai23 Please sign your posts and also re-add the article you edited for last week in the WikiEdu dashboard. Do not remove those, but only continue to add them. Do these two things and reply to me here and I will review. --- FULBERT (talk) 01:18, 27 July 2020 (UTC)
