"Undersourced" article

Was this move to draft space a misclick?[3] What went on there? Thanks, Calliopejen1 (talk) 06:40, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

Oh, I see, you must be the professor of the class involved here. Never mind -- wanting to make sure this wasn't an overzealous Wikipedian patrolling new pages. (Something with this many references should not be moved back to draft space by a new pages patroller.) Thanks for your class's contributions to Wikipedia! Calliopejen1 (talk) 06:45, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
Calliopejen1, Thanks for your assistance as well! Together we can all make a difference with these efforts! FULBERT (talk) 16:13, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
June 17, 7pm: ONLINE WikiWednesday Salon NYC

You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our monthly "WikiWednesday" evening salon (7-8pm) and knowledge-sharing workshop. This month, as part of Wikimedia NYC's commitment to the well-being of members, we will hold WikiWednesday online via Zoom videoconferencing! To join the meeting from your computer or smartphone, just visit this link. More information about how to connect is available on the meetup page.

We look forward to seeing local Wikimedians, but would also like to invite folks from the greater New York metropolitan area (and beyond!) who might not typically be able to join us in person!

This month, we'll check in on the global WikiCup race and have as featured speaker our local champion and frontrunner, who is trying to win it by writing as many new New York City articles as possible, as well as other local and global topics.

Is there a project you'd like to share? A question you'd like answered? A Wiki* skill you'd like to learn? Let us know by adding it to the agenda.

7:00pm - 8:00 pm online via Zoom (optional breakout rooms from 8:00-8:30)

We especially encourage folks to add your 3-minute lightning talks to our roster, and otherwise join in the "open space" experience! Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues!

Week 2 / Evaluate and Copyedit Article / Cathy0602

The article I evaluated is Austudy Payment. This article is a payment from Australian government to support students. It clearly lists about the concept and history of this payment setting, however, without any reliable citations and academic articles.

The link to my article evaluation: Article Evaluation.

The link to the Talk page where I offered a comment: Talk:Austudy Payment

The link to the diff of the article I copyedited: diff1, diff2.

My harvest of this process is that all of the articles we crated in Wikipedia are required citations and reliable sources for verification. --Cathy0602 (talk) 23:51, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

Cathy0602, Your work here was beyond what was needed for Week 2, though in the process you made some claims that you did not support. I would ordinarily revert these edits with a message similar to: "The source used here does not fulfill the Wikipedia policy of using reliable, third party WP:INDEPENDENT published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy WP:RELIABLE." Please add sources to substantiate these claims and then ping me again here when done and I will take a look. FULBERT (talk) 23:01, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
Cathy0602, Ping me here as well if you do not know how to insert the citations (as that is for next week), and I will help you insert them. FULBERT (talk) 23:02, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
FULBERT, after reading the comments you gave, I made additional little edits on the Austudy Payment article page. Since we learned how to insert the citation in the article, I insert this added which would improve the reliability of original one. This is the link to the diff3: Austudy Payment: Difference between revisions. Thanks. Cathy0602 (talk) 17:20, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
Cathy0602, Please assign yourself this article in the Wiki Edu Dashboard and then ping me here. I will then take a look at it and reply. FULBERT (talk) 16:06, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
FULBERT, I assigned it in my Wiki Edu Dashboard. Thanks you. (talk) 16:16, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
Cathy0602, Thanks. Week 2 is current. FULBERT (talk) 14:03, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

Week 3/Copyedit and Citation/Yuxin L-

The citation I add: Citation

The link to diff:[[4]]

I reviewed the article and find the sentences need to a reference. I learned from this week, every sentence in content need to have a reference to avoid plagiarism and also represents the place of resources. From the process of adding a citation, I learned how to use the tools to add a citation.Yuxin L- (talk) 11:07, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Yuxin L-, I see your add. What are your thoughts on its being reverted? Please answer that first here and then we will complete this week's extra credit. FULBERT (talk) 17:15, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi professor, FULBERT based on the fact, I did not see the reference or citation on this sentence. I did research, the reference I add in that has more information to explain this event and I think the reference is evidence for the sentence.

Yuxin L- Please remember to indent your replies with one colon " : " for each level of indent you want, as this helps with readability. Also, Please remember to sign each of your posts using four tilde characters ~~~~ at the end. Do this as a reply and then ping me here, and then I will take a look at it and reply. --- FULBERT (talk) 15:28, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
FULBERT,this is correct reply format Yuxin L- (talk) 15:44, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
Yuxin L-, Each reply should use one : so it indents further than the one above it. Please reply to this one using 3 : and you will see what I mean. FULBERT (talk) 15:50, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
FULBERT,thank you professor for explain.Yuxin L- (talk) 15:55, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
Yuxin L-, Great. Week 3 is current. FULBERT (talk) 14:04, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

Week 3 / Add Citation / Cathy0602

Hello Professor, I added a citation to Austudy Payment since I find the lack of reliable citations in this article.

The link to the diff of the article: diff.

Last week, I found the problem of this article but didn't know more about how to add the citation. In this week, after learning that in classes, I added the citation and helped improve article's credibility. --Cathy0602 (talk) 23:38, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello FULBERT,

Your help can make a difference

NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.

Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

Discussions and Resources
  • A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
  • Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.
  • A proposed new speedy deletion criteria for certain kinds of redirects ended with no consensus.
  • Also ending with no change was a proposal to change how we handle certain kinds of vector images.

Week3/Add Citation/Jiayu Xu

I added a citation to the Investor expectation heading of Price-Earning Ratio. Because I found a book which can explicitly describe about the Investor expectations.

Difference link:Difference
I learned how to cite a source to the article. This is very important, because plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty and a breach of journalistic ethics.

Week 2/ Evaluate and Copyedit Article/ Qingmei95

I evaluated the article called https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siopao#Description. This is classified as a stub-class article because it needs more information and editions. After finishing the practices, I found that there are many changes I can make in this post. Because this week we only need to correct grammars or other spelling errors, I only correct a grammar error in this website. In the future, I can make more changes or editing in this site. From this week's materials I learned about how to evaluate others' work to see whether there are plagiarism work or not. I can identify close paraphrasing to know that changes are needed for this source to be better.

Week 3/ Add Citation/ Junwei Sheng

Hi, professor. This week we have learned how to cite a reference into Wikipedia.

This is my reference that added to my assigned article, which is Artificial intelligence in video games: Far Cry 2.

This my hist|diff page: Difference between revisions.

I have learned if we want to cite others' articles, we must use our own words to explain what we have learned instead of quoting the authors' words directly. Junwei Sheng (talk) 20:50, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Junwei Sheng, The source you used did not fulfill the Wikipedia policy of using reliable, third party WP:INDEPENDENT published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy WP:RELIABLE and as a result another editor already removed it. Please find a more reliable source, add it, and then ping me again here when done. FULBERT (talk) 15:34, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi, professor. Thank you for telling me the Wikipedia policy. And I find a reliable third-party source this time.

The new source is: Far Cry 2 AI on AI

The new revision page is: revision

Junwei Sheng (talk) 21:30, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

Junwei Sheng, The source you used did not fulfill the Wikipedia policy of using reliable, third party WP:INDEPENDENT published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy WP:RELIABLE and as a result another editor already removed it again. Look for a source from a journal, professional publication, news article, or the like that is more reliable. If you cannot find one, then you cannot make the claim. In that case, identify a new article that needs editing. Please find a more reliable source, add it, and then ping me again here when done. FULBERT (talk) 15:57, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi, professor. I got another article named Artificial intelligence in healthcare

I have cited a reference in the Electronic health records section. Link for my references: reference

I have found the reference with the database, ResearchGate. Thank you.Junwei Sheng (talk) 00:59, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

Junwei Sheng, Nice add! Current with Week 3. FULBERT (talk) 01:11, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

Week 4/ Add 2 Citations/ Totent

This week, I edited 2 articles related to my research topic. Editing wiki articles related to my topic was much easier, as I have done research on it already. I added a citation to each of the articles. One of the article actually has zero reference in it, and I think more references must be added to support the facts listed in it. Week 4/Add 2 citations/Junwei Sheng

Hi, Professor. This week I have assigned two new articles, which are Information leakage and Data provenance (Provenance#Science). I found it easy for me to cite references to these articles because of my previous research on cryptography and data leakage. Many technical terms in these articles also help me to understand more details about my research.

The difference between revisions for Information leakage is: Information leakage: Difference between revisions

The difference between revisions for Data provenance is: Provenance: Difference between revisions Junwei Sheng (talk) 23:38, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

Junwei Sheng, Nice edits on both of them. Week 4 is now current. FULBERT (talk) 01:15, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

Week1/Crate Wikipedia Account/Jiayu Xu

Hello Professor,

I'm appreciated that you offered us extra credit opportunity. I already finished all of modules last week, however I missed to leave messages in Fulbert talk page. I'm really sorry about that. Jiayu Xu (talk) 06:52, 20 June 2020 (UTC) @FULBERT:

Jiayu Xu Fine, and welcome. Please do not ping at the end of a reply, as that will not always work; try to ping at the beginning of your reply. Nevertheless, all current for Week 1. --- FULBERT (talk) 01:17, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

Week2/Evaluate An Article/Jiayu Xu

I evaluated the article Price–earnings ratio This article basically describes the definition about Price-Earning ratio, however, it still needs to added more something deep and broad content. Also, it needs additional citations for verification. It is a C-class article which needs to be improved.

The link to my article evaluation: Evaluation
The link to the talkpage where I commented: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Price%E2%80%93earnings_ratio
The link to the diff of the article I copyedited: Difference

I learned how to evaluate articles in Wikipedia, and learned how to use Wiki code to make link or ping functions etc. So in the future, I can contribute more content for this terminology.

Week 4/ Add 2 Citations/ ANTTONNY

This week's assignment, I edited 2 articles in Telecommuting and Virtual_workplace. The two articles I edited is related to my proposal topic, in which I used the references material I founded during my research phase. I found both articles have insufficient context regarding COVID-19 and environmental sustainability. Therefore, I added citations with Statista and peer-reviewed article, along with the addition of context regarding the topic. The diff in the following:

Diff to Telecommuting

Diff to Virtual workplace

I founded that many Wikipedia articles are insufficient in citations to back up some of the claims. Therefore, I look forward to contributes to more articles in the future.

ANTTONNY (talk) 22:12, 20 June 2020 (UTC)

ANTTONNY, Nice adds to both. Current with Week 4. FULBERT (talk) 01:25, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

William Mariner was an Englishman who lived in Tonga from 29 November 1806 to (probably) 8 November 1810. He later published Tonga Islands, an account of his experiences that is now one of the major sources of information on Tonga before it was significantly influenced by European culture and Christianity.
