Births / year of birth missing categorization edit

Hi! I've noticed you doing excellent work going through people needing birth cats - thank you! Am I right that you're keeping people you've put in Category:Year of birth missing (living people) up on those pages? Yes, I am currently working on removing people who are listed in Living people needing categorization by year of birth, which have been classified under (xxxx births). I had considered also (as you mentioned) removing those within Category:Year of birth missing (living people), but since they had not (technically) been "categorized by year of birth", I decided to leave them. As far as useful, I think having them in both increases the likelihood of proper categorization, and I have been putting them in Category:Year of birth missing (living people). If you do want to leave them, maybe when you get to the end of a batch you could mark the ones left as having been categorised in this way - e.g. Batch XX 'only year of birth missing (living people) remaining' or whatever - just so people who come to the page will know the status of the different batches there. Thanks! That should stop us wasting effort by going over the same material. I'm afraid I'd quite like to continue simply deleting the batches which I've gone through - it's a bit quicker, and the backlog is so huge that I just want to attack it as quickly as possible. I agree with what EmanWilm said on his talk page about leaving the ones with year of birth missing in place because otherwise they might slip thru the net; on the other hand that category is there and if someone is working thru that list they will see it. If the person is not in the LC authority file, I don't do much more searching since there are so many; but there are times when I think it will be likely the birth date will be in the file (if the person is a published writer or musician) and usually I can get a birth year and thus can improve the page; so I don't have strong feelings, just observations. Deletion of Template:WPC copyright guide edit

Hi there, I just noticed that this template has been deleted without even notifying me as creator that it was up for discussion. This was not an exact duplication of Template:WPOCopyright despite their visual similarity. This would have been evident if anyone had bothered to check all the links. Note also that it was not unused. It was transcluded here. They contained different links for Online research in the Guides section. Template:WPC copyright guide linked to a different Guide which was written for the needs of Wikipedia:WikiProject Composers. What's done is done, and I've got round the problem by linking the two different Guides in Template:WPOCopyright, although cumbersome. But I would greatly appreciate it if you would please not propose for deletion Template:WPC online research. This one likewise is especially adapted for WikiProject Composers despite its visual simlarity to Template:WPO online research. Or if you do, please leave a notice on my talk page. Presidential Elections edit

First I would like to say thanks for contributing to presidential elections at the state level. I have worked my tail off over the years to create and add information about presidential election results at the state level. I'm really happy to see more wikipedia contributers. Just a few suggestions:

  • In the infobox, remember that a candidate needs at least 5% of the vote. Ross Perot fits this criteria in most states in 1992 and 1996. However, Nader hit that threshold in only a few states in 2000.
  • In the infobox, only one decimal point is needed (for example it's 5.8% not 5.77%)
  • Try to add as much information as possible. In the 2004 presidential election, I put pre-election predictions, polls, campaign visits, etc. The more information, the better.
  • Look at the 2004 and 2008 presidential elections at the state level. Refer to them.

Not a particularly notable cocktail. I see lots of entries in cocktail recipe books, but nothing that discusses the cocktail in any depth - history, commentary, etc. We are not a recipe guide; this content is possibly suitable for WikiBooks but not Wikipedia.

Wikipedia:Templates with red links edit

It has been a decade since a new dataset was provided at Wikipedia:Templates with red links. It is clearly time for a new one, but I have no insight on who can or will provide this (I asked at WP:VPT some time ago, but the request went unanswered).    The old list was compiled by another user (TopBanana, I think) I'be been unable to find out how the original list was compiled. I was under the impression that it used RussBot. But, after looking at its functionality, that does not seem correct. So, I started looking into how to compile one from scratch. It seems as though I can use AutoWikiBrowser to compile a list of redlinks on a page (if I'm reading its description correctly). I do not know if it has expanded functionality for searching the entire database, and delivering a useable list. I have applied for approval to use the bot and am now waiting on approval. If it works the way I hope, I have a CPU I can dedicate to run the bot. I think I remember the previous user saying it took several days, but with Wikipedia expanding, and tech advancing for 10 years, who knows?
