TFA

Thank you today for Carucage, introduced (in 2010): "I am nominating this for featured article because after a very thorough copyedit by Malleus AND Parrot of Doom (I'm moving up in the world, two copyeditors!), plus a peer review and a GAN, I feel this is as ready as it gets. Instead of a bishop OR a horse OR a nobleman, you get a ... medieval tax. It was an experiment that didn't work out, only collected six times, but still an interesting little tidbit on the way to more "modern" systems of taxation. It wouldn't work any more, as we don't usually have the ox-teams this tax was based on! No, I don't know how it was pronounced, sorry!"

Best wishes

Dear Ealdgyth, thank you very much for your best wishes. Please accept a belated return. Best regards and thanks, Johannes Schade (talk) 11:55, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

Simpson Harris Morgan

I was able to dredge up another source - I'll need to visit the library though and it'll be Saturday before I think I can get to that. Hog Farm Talk 01:58, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

Final Solution Article

Can you take a look at my talk note on the final solution - I really disdain having to make a Wiki profile just to address something I found outside of Wikipedia because of that really unencyclopedic first paragraph. USHMM User (talk) 05:28, 25 January 2024 (UTC)

WikiCup 2024 February newsletter

The 2024 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with 135 participants. This is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2017.

Our current leader is newcomer   Generalissima (submissions), who has one FA on John Littlejohn (preacher) and 10 GAs and 12 DYKs mostly on New Zealand coinage and Inuit figures. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:

As a reminder, competitors may submit work for the first round until 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February, and the second round starts 1 March. Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round; currently, competitors need at least 15 points to progress. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges (Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), and Frostly (talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. GAR on Edmund Ætheling

Hi Ealdgyth. I have opened a GAR on Edmund Ætheling as it is largely based on an unreliable source. If you have time to comment at Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/Edmund Ætheling/1 it would be helpful. Dudley Miles (talk) 14:45, 19 February 2024 (UTC)

FA review

I have nominated Edward I of England for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets the featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Delist" in regards to the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Jim Killock (talk) 21:30, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

John Fordham

Hello. I am writing as a courtesy to let you know that I have moved John Fordham to John Fordham (bishop). You have links to him on eight of your archived Talk pages (for example Archive 17) so I am writing to ask if it would be helpful if I were to disambiguate him for you on these pages. I am happy to do so if you wish, or to just leave it. Cheers DBaK (talk) 23:54, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

I honestly don't care? If you want to .. that's fine. Either way is fine. Ealdgyth (talk) 23:58, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. Given that you don't mind, I will make the changes and be happy to have your blessing for them. The reason for this is that I monitor links to the two, now three, JF pages to try to minimize confusion between them (there has been plenty in the past!) and it will help me to lower the incoming count on the JF page. I know this all sounds terribly nerdy and obsessive of me ... but what can I say? Cap, fits, wear! Cheers DBaK (talk) 00:19, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
Update: all done, thank you! DBaK (talk) 00:37, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

White flowers

When I looked back in the archives, I didn't find as many Arthurians on Drmies' talk page as I remember there being. I'm not quite sure whether I can get Boorman's Excalibur in, its Blancheflor not garnering much comment in what I've read so far, but I have found a mural. WikiCup 2024 March newsletter

The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.

The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:

In this newsletter, the judges would like to pay a special tribute to   Vami_IV (submissions), who unfortunately passed away this February. At the time of his death, he was the second-highest-scoring competitor. Outside the WikiCup, he had eight other featured articles, five A-class articles, eight other good articles, and two Four Awards. Vami also wrote an essay on completionism, a philosophy in which he deeply believed. If you can, please join us in honoring his memory by improving one of the articles on his to-do list.

Remember that any content promoted after 27 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. February 2024 WikiProject Unreferenced articles backlog drive – award

Citation Barnstar

This award is given in recognition to Ealdgyth for collecting more than 1 point during the WikiProject Unreferenced articles's FEB24 backlog drive. Your contributions played a crucial role in sourcing 14,300 unsourced articles during the drive. Thank you so much for participating and helping to reduce the backlog! – – DreamRimmer (talk) 17:39, 8 March 2024 (UTC)

TFA

Thank you today for Fairfax Harrison, introduced (in 2011): "I promised everyone something other than a bishop or a horse. So ... I present to you, an American lawyer, railroad executive, and historical writer. (See if you can figure out WHY I wrote about him?) He's probably best known now for his writings, but in his day he was very influential in business and industry. After the usual copyedit by Malleus, I present to you a American personage for a change..."! - missing "Malleus" -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:55, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
