Not relevant?

Why is https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dove_%28disambiguation%29&type=revision&diff=923977395&oldid=923914774 not relevant? Dove chocolate is also known by a different name in other countries. --Tyw7 (🗣️ Talk) — If (reply) then (ping me) 01:56, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

@Tyw7: Might be relevant on the disambiguation page for "galaxy", but how does it help anyone looking for something named "dove"? Besides, it violates the one blue link per entry rule for disambiguation pages. olderwiser 08:53, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
Bkonrad, well it tells the user that the chocolate is also known as Galaxy. --Tyw7 (🗣️ Talk) — If (reply) then (ping me) 12:13, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
@Tyw7: But that's not the job of the dab page: it's to say "If you are looking for chocolate known as "Dove", then this is the link to the article you need". If there was a "Dove chocolate also known as Galaxy", and also a "Dove chocolate also known as Magic", then it would be relevant on the dab page, otherwise not. PamD 12:36, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Şaru River (disambiguation)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Şaru River (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is a redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Pkbwcgs (talk) 10:16, 3 November 2019 (UTC)

Fey

Hi you were right to revert “fey, an english word”, but can we come up with some way of noting that fey’s a word, apart our encyclopedia articles on fey? The previous entry on fey just meaning effeminate is very misleading, conceivably harmful. thanksRich (talk) 20:51, 4 November 2019 (UTC)

There's a link to wiktionary at the top of the page. olderwiser 23:33, 4 November 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Do you want to clean up Società Italiana Ernesto Breda?

Or should I? I would do it, but since you’re active right now and editing my edits before I’m even quite done tweaking them (I’m on my iPhone at the moment so it’s a bit harder to work on full articles in one go), I don’t want us both working at the same time! :) As it is, the article now still talks only of AnseldoBreda and hasn’t been updated to Hitachi. White Spout (disambiguation)

Just fyi, if you think something like White Spout (disambiguation) should go, it doesn't meet the definition of the speedy deletion criteria you nominated it under. Better to PROD or take it to MfD.----Fabrictramp | talk to me 15:46, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

@Fabrictramp: None of the articles other than the primary topic mention the term. As such there is nothing to disambiguate. That is the very reason for that particular speedy deletion criteria. olderwiser 16:15, 1 December 2019 (UTC)
You might want to check G14 again -- it doesn't say that a link doesn't count if the article doesn't mention the term, just that there are no links to extant pages. And going back to remove those lines again rather than just prodding it is not the best move here.----Fabrictramp | talk to me 16:21, 1 December 2019 (UTC)
@Fabrictramp: The guidance for disambiguation pages is crystal clear -- the linked article must support the claimed usage. As such none of the entries are valid other than the primary topic. Removing such invalid entries is routine cleanup. The deletion criteria was specifically created for such circumstances. olderwiser 16:23, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Newton Township, New Jersey

The article Newton Township, New Jersey has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Redundant with Newton Township (disambiguation); there is nothing here that isn't already listed there.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ωικιωαrrιorᑫᑫ1ᑫ 18:36, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

Your edit on 10 December 2019

Hi, this is to appreciate you for applying further edits based on my edits on Vienna (disambiguation). Truly, the page Windows Vienna automatically redirects viewers to a popular, well known Microsoft Windows operating system. Good luck on your further edits! 197.211.58.55 (talk) 22:31, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

Chuckie

Give me 24 hours. I put an underconstruction tag on this for a reason. Right now I am doing for Template:Charles, what I did for Template:Anthony. I expect this task to go on for about the next 10 months. Part of this task is splitting out alternate spellings. Most active folks at WP:APO know what I am doing.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 13:48, 14 December 2019 (UTC)

@TonyTheTiger: Splitting Chuckie and Chucky (and arguably even Chuck) seems no improvement at all and serves no purpose except to make it more difficult for readers to find relevant content. Very few people will consistently recall whether someone (or some character) is called Chuckie or Chucky. And FWIW, Template:Anthony is rather a useless abomination. olderwiser 13:55, 14 December 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for your opinion. Obviously, I disagree.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 17:14, 14 December 2019 (UTC)
Further explanation. I noticed that when I was working on versions of Nicholas, there was a {{Nicholas}}, which use to look like this. As I expanded the list, I decided to widen it to the width of an infobox. I have since created {{Anthony}}, {{Charles}}, and {{Anastasia (name)}}. If you look back in the history of the Charles template, it is a bit of show of affection for my own family, specifically announced on my sister's 49th birthday with the intent of working on it for her 50th year of life which goes until October 25. So if you are active in other Charles related pages, you can look forward to my splits of merged names and carving out separate name lists from dab pages, when I can add some encyclopedic content. Sometimes splits are contentious, but when they have diverging encyclopedic content there is not an issue. It is surprising how minor spelling difference demonstrates cultural differences. Some splits/separate creations that might seem counter intuitive have included Antonela and Antonella or Anastassiya and Anastasiya. In Italy, changing from an "i" to an "o" (i.e., Antonelli vs. Antonello) means the difference between northern and southern Italy. Tonia, Tonja and Tonya are derivatives of Antonius and Tania, Tanja and Tanya are not. I don't know much about etymology, but am helping spread the knowledge I find and organize the encyclopedic content that exists.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 21:49, 14 December 2019 (UTC)

"Furioso (horse)" listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Furioso (horse). Since you had some involvement with the Furioso (horse) redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you wish to do so. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 22:20, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

Captain John Hart

Hi Bkonrad. Hope this doesn't come down to a three-edit rule. You're clearly the full bottle on dab pages, so could you check what I did to Captain John Hart? I acknowledge that the TV character has a heavier hit rate (and a GA to boot), but our guy was no lightweight either: Premier of the State, has a significant building named for him, and a founder of a 100-year old football club. Jan

Hello, you seem to have removed a link to the wiktionary entry for Jan. Since the wikipedia page links to the Persian meaning of Jan, I included a wiktionary link as well. It is especially useful, since abjad knowledge is not common among English speakers, and it is useful link for language learners. 185.219.68.68 (talk) 21:07, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
