Why are you still using Template:Fb cl team?

Hey ArsenalFan700, as you can see at the top of the template page, the template is deprecated by WP:FOOTBALL. Please use Module:Sports table in templates like Template:2016 Uttarakhand Super League season Group A table and Template:2016 Uttarakhand Super League season Group B table, as it is neat and you do not have to create additional team templates Template:Fb team every time you use Template:Fb cl team. --Pray93 (talk) 16:42, 16 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Consistency across football club names.

I noticed that you have created Army Green (football club), Army Red (football team) and Indian Air Force (football team). Are they notable enough? They only participation they have is in Durand Cup. Even if they are, shouldn't there be consistency in the team names?

As per WP:FOOTYN, the clubs are only notable if they participate in league or the national cup, which in India's case is Fed Cup. They don't seem notable. Coderzombie (talk) 16:08, 11 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Club page naming convention.

In case you haven't noticed, one administrator has moved a bunch of Football club pages like Bengaluru FC to Bengaluru F.C. and so on. Personally, I am not too sure about which should be used in which case, so if you think it's worth contesting, please take it up. Coderzombie (talk) 15:30, 19 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Coderzombie, you could always have left a note on my talk page :P
I am in the process of moving a number of pages in an attempt to have a uniform manner of presentation for article titles in a given country. Where a country's teams use "." more than they don't I have moved the remaining articles to that presentation and vice-versa. There is no consensus at to which should be used on a universal basis, so I would not recommend simply moving them back unless there is a clear common name one way or the other (though this is unlikely as few sources regularly use the FC suffix in any form). I am not too precious about this though, I just feel categories look neater when the presentation is uniform one way or the other, so I am also happy if either of you think no "." is better and want to move all articles to that form of presentation as well. Fenix down (talk) 16:27, 19 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Fenix down:, I know I could have left a note on your talk page, the reason I did it here is that the pages you moved were mostly created by ArsenalFan700 and he has done a lot of work on Indian football related pages and honestly, like I mentioned, I am not sure what's the rationale used for using FC vs F.C., so I was hoping to include ArsenalFan700 in the debate and getting his input as well in the debate. Coderzombie (talk) 19:35, 19 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Ya, personally I would have felt better if @Fenix down: you at least consulted Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/India task force before doing this. I mean, I was just surprised to come on my watchlist this morning and see all this movement and stuff and while I agree with the majority of them, I don't agree with the ISL ones. I don't believe there was ever a consensus on FC or F.C. etc. otherwise Toronto FC, Seattle Sounders FC, and Melbourne City FC would have the "F.C." as well. On the Indian Super League website you see that these teams are officially registered as "FC" with no dots and thus why I did it without it... same with Bengaluru FC. This is how they have their names so that is how I made them and I believe that is fair. Uniformity is good and all but on an encyclopedia we also need to be factual and as far as I am concerned, it is a fact that these teams are just "FC" in name and not "F.C.". I won't revert back yet to those names as I want to see other opinions but this is my stance on the issue. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 20:28, 19 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Sorry I did not raise with the task force, though I would suggest that given that there has been precisely one talk thread there this year, that it is not a particularly active group even if individual editors are. Your points about Toronto, etc aren't really relevant to what I have done (the consensus for US teams seems to be not to use ".". I am not trying to establish a global consensus, merely tidying up on a country-by-country basis, adhering to the manual of style where possible, though where the majority of a given country's clubs don't already use "." I have aligned to that as an unwritten consensus to avoid unnecessary issues.
I believe that the presence / absence of a "." is minor enough to allow any editor to be bold within reason, given there has not been any success in achieving a global consensus. Like I said though, I am not particularly precious about the "." inclusion or exclusion, so I am happy for you to move back where you believe there is a common name. Fenix down (talk) 07:31, 20 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Ya, the taskforce is not the most active. We have a lot of active users when it comes to editing but they are not the best when it comes to discussion to be honest, usually either not participating at all or they will revert t harsh language. The usual guys who edit and discuss are me and Coder so we usually just keep it at our talk pages unless it is a massive issue. As for the "." issue, I will probably then revert back for ISL pages and Bengaluru FC and Bharat FC for the reasons I stated above but will keep all other edits the same as before.--ArsenalFan700 (talk) 20:10, 20 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
No problem. On that point, do you think Chennaiyin FC is at the right place, the logo uses "."? Fenix down (talk) 15:02, 22 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
That I am not sure about since they are officially registered as just "Chennaiyin FC". Everything on their website, other than the logo, also just says "Chennaiyin FC". --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 15:14, 22 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Invite to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:12, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Managers v head coaches

The standard naming format is "managers" - see Category:Association football managers and all subcategories, including Category:Football managers in India by club. GiantSnowman 17:58, 29 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

But the US categories are subcats of Category:Association football managers by competition and should follow the same language as every other category - though that will never happen given the number of US editors here. "Soccer" is a different kettle of fish. GiantSnowman 08:38, 30 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
Maybe raise at WT:FOOTY? GiantSnowman 08:07, 2 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
This is something that is bigger than us discussing - if there is consensus to change to 'head coaches', this will affect a lot of articles/templates/categories... GiantSnowman 08:18, 2 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Page revamp

Excellent work on I-League season page revamp, but dude, why you gotta remove individual attendances in the comment? It really helps keep track of the aggregation stats. Coderzombie (talk) 08:04, 2 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

For man of the match, do you think it'd make more sense to organize it match-wise, like in case of ISL, rather than round-wise because of irregularity of rounds in I-League? Coderzombie (talk) 08:08, 2 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, you are probably right. 10 teams will mean, 90 games, so round-wise will be more compact. Let's keep this for now. We'll think of something else later if this doesn't work out. Coderzombie (talk) 08:22, 2 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Yup. I think the last season we discussed and decided to drop, position by rounds, clean sheets because of lack of source right? Coderzombie (talk) 20:04, 2 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
I-League does this once in a while. They could've literally just put this information on the statistics page, along side top scorers, but nooooo... Coderzombie (talk) 21:01, 2 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
ESPN covers stats of ISL, while for I-League they only have articles. I reached out to editor ESPN about I-League, he told me they are working on I-League too soon. Fingers crossed. Coderzombie (talk) 10:39, 3 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Mohun Bagan

Mohun Bagan has played at Barasat and Rabindra Sarobar this season. Also the game vs Churchill happened at Barasat. here. Coderzombie (talk) 06:39, 5 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

My point was also about the list of highest attended games, where you changed Barasat to Rabindra Sarovar. Coderzombie (talk) 07:23, 5 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Inconsistency in stadium names

I noticed there is a lot of inconsistencies in stadium names. Sometimes the pages are titled Stadium Name, City. Other times it's Stadium Name (City). I tried digging up MOS on that but couldn't find one. We should unify this and make it consistent because there are probably a zillion stadiums named "Jawaharlal Nehru" in India. Coderzombie (talk) 08:58, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Also, please take a look at 1997 Federation Cup Semifinal: East Bengal F.C. v Mohun Bagan A.C.. If it deserves the page, and if so, is that how it should be titled? Coderzombie (talk) 18:40, 8 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi ArsenalFan700, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. File:All India Football Federation 2016.png

Hi ArsenalFan700. I'm not sure why you removed the {{di-missing some article links}} from File:All India Football Federation 2016.png with this edit because the file is still missing a separate specific non-free use rationale for India national football team and you did not provide one. You shouldn't really remove such templates, etc. if the problem has not been fixed. If you feel the file's non-free use is justified in the article, please add a valid non-free use rationale for it per WP:NFCCE. File's lacking such a rationale can be removed be removed from articles per WP:NFCC#10c.

Also, when you upload an updated version of a non-free file, please add the template {{Orphaned non-free revisions}} (or {{furd}}) to the file's page. All non-free files are required to be used in at least one article per WP:NFCC#7. File's not being used are considered "orphans" and subject to speedy deletion per WP:F5. This also applies to former versions of file's which are no longer being used. After the file has been tagged, an administrator will eventually delete the older no longer being used versions. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:49, 3 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for March 22

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited India national football team, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Keegan Pereira. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

India National Football Team

Great work on the revamp, mate. But I sure hope you are not done or anything. Missing out a lot of things from previous version. Top capped players, top goal scorers, among other things. Coderzombie (talk) 14:15, 22 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

I-League/ISL merger

Looks like I-League/ISL merger is making some progress. We might have a merged league as early as 2017-18 season. We need a strategy for the pages before there is massive disruption. There are two ways to go about it. For simplicity, assuming the new structure will be called ISL/League One/League Two.

  1. Keep ISL title unchanged, just add information about new teams. Move I-League page to League One. Move I-League 2nd division page to League Two. Or
  2. Keep ISL unchanged, Keep IL and IL2 pages as is, terming them as past/defunct league and create new pages for League One and League Two.

Thoughts? Coderzombie (talk) 06:32, 31 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

The way I look at it right now, there was a small chance the the ISL for next season will be a brand new ISL... almost like a clean slate, but now it does seem to be simply an expansion. Meanwhile. the I-League and I-League 2nd Division will most definitely be over and League One and Two will be the new leagues. So ya, option two is probably what we will do but we shouldn't do anything until it is officially announced. There could be a rush though to create pages so I suggest redirecting the terms League One (India) and League Two (India) to Football in India (I would say I-League but these leagues are separate for now). Right now I am blocked for reasons which I probably shouldn't express my opinion over for fear of being blocked more, but after the block I can talk more about it. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 15:10, 31 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Can we get some input in resolving an edit dispute?

Hello ArsenalFan700. I am hoping that you can lend some assistance. Me and user GiantSnowman need assistance in resolving an edit dispute concerning the kit section that was in the Nigerian national football team article. He removed it citing WP:NOTGALLERY. I disagree with his interpretation and I have shared my reasons on the talk page at WikiProject Football. We request the input of members of this project in order to resolve this issue. Your assistance would be appreciated if you have the time. Thanks! unak1978 16:36, 29 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Edits

How is your edits making the article better? I fail to see the improvement, apart from reader would have to dictate the stats on their own as opposed to them being summarised for them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kyndigs (talkcontribs) 18:16, 15 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

ISL

It's all but confirmed that this season, ISL will not have playoffs, so we should probably get rid off that "season" suffix in the page. Not right away, but something to keep in mind. Coderzombie (talk) 18:19, 1 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

There is no hurry of course, but just FYI Coderzombie (talk) 19:36, 2 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Pawan Kumar disambiguation

I think Pawan Kumar (footballer) should be moved to Pawan Kumar (footballer, born 1990) and Pawan Kumar (Indian footballer) to Pawan Kumar (footballer, born 1995). Coderzombie (talk) 10:31, 24 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Don't think it'll need admin permission, both pages seem to be empty. BTW, do have a look at the current draft page, you might be duplicating a lot of work that's already in place. I have already copied the players list page from your sandbox to the page. Not much is missing any more. Coderzombie (talk) 14:45, 24 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Awesome, I have fixed the backlinks and redirected the original pages to disambiguation. Coderzombie (talk) 15:37, 24 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Women's Football / Soccer Task Force News: August 2017

Should the women's football task force become WikiProject: WOSO?

According to an op-ed in the recent Signpost, some editors think task forces and subgroups are dying in 2017.

What do you think about forming our own WikiProject separate from WP:FOOTY? There's an on-going discussion of the potential pros and cons on the task force talk page. Input is welcome.

Recent developments

New initiatives have been created for:

  • FA WSL (England's top-division league)
  • NCAA (American university teams, conferences, etc.)
  • W-League (Australia's top-division league)
Ongoing tournaments
Current and upcoming seasons for top-division leagues
Did you know?

While WP:FPL lists only two women's top-division leagues as notable due to its "fully professional" criteria, did you know you can create an article on any player in any league as long as the references meet WP:GNG guidelines? Make sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}.

Have some new articles in mind or see some that need improvement? Add them to the Open Tasks page if you'd like and other editors may be able to help. Need tips, assistance, or resources from other WOSO editors? Leave a message on the task force talk page.

Thank you for your continued contributions to articles related to women's football / soccer (WOSO)!

Proposed deletion of 2017 Champions Cup (India)

The article 2017 Champions Cup (India) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

2017 was always tentative. Now it's official that it will not be held this year, may be next year, so this page should be deleted. I would prefer delete, but wouldn't mind redirect either.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Coderzombie (talk) 04:37, 10 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

The 2017 Champions Cup page has been moved by me as the tournament is now replaced by Hero Tri-Nation Football Series. So please remove that speedy deletion notice. Rajesh.Pramanick09 (talk) 16:40, 10 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Harpreet Singh of FC Pune City

Hi, do you think Wikipedia has an article on Harpreet Singh of FC Pune City? I'd hoped so but I couldn't find one. The ISL site says he is aged 22 but Harpreet Singh (footballer) is 34, so probably not the same person. Certes (talk) 18:15, 13 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

2017 Hero Tri-Nation Series

Hi, since you proposed my recent article 2017 Hero Tri-Nation Series for deletion, can you direct me to Wikipedia's notability guidelines for sports tournaments? I can't find a set specifically for tournaments and they are not mentioned in any other related set of guidelines. Thanks. --Gri3720 (talk) 14:21, 19 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • Thanks for your reply. I think that we agree that when determining if something is notable when there are no specific guidelines, it is very subjective. To me, there is a difference between a friendly and a friendly tournament. You are probably right that it was named in part to increase revenue from tickets, tv, etc. However, the name, and the fact that it is sponsored by a major corporation, certainly differentiates that matches from several friendlies and an actual tournament. Also, the AIFA spent a huge amount of money on the tournament which, depending on your perspective, makes it notable for that reason alone. There are similar, one-off tournaments that have not been questioned in the past. (see: 2013 OSN Cup) so the precedent is there to keep it. Those are my feelings. Obviously I would not have created the article if I didn't feel it were notable enough. I will continue to search for more sources on the subject. If you still disagree with me, we could also propose it for deletion and have a vote. Thanks again.--Gri3720 (talk) 19:39, 19 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • For what it's worth, FIFA labels a lot of things as friendlies on their site, including the Caribbean Cup and East Asian Cup just to name a few. But I totally get it, I don't think that it is a huge deal either, but it is being marketed as a miniature tournament and they are holding the format even if there are only 3 teams. I'm just always in favor of documenting even small things because if we don't, they will be lost to history and, to me, that's a shame. Perhaps we will have a clearer picture of the event when it concludes.--Gri3720 (talk) 02:10, 20 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
