Chapter 27

Hey Arjun,

I know the actress in Chapter 27, and she defines her part as "European prostitute." Sorry if I offended you - just trying to keep things as close to truth as possible.

S

Ah okay; if that is her part in the movie than you can go ahead and fix that. Sorry for any inconvenience. ~ Arjun 03:58, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

League of Copyeditors

Arjun, are you a member of the League of Copyeditors? If so, how can I submit an article for proofreading? I want to submit Dreamgirls (film) to an FA. Real96 05:08, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Hmm...I think that you just list it on the League of Copyeditors page. But I am not to sure; you might want to ask Tohru as she knows more about that project than I do. But from my viewpoint of just taking a quick check...it looks good enough to be a GA but try doing a peer review for more advice. Cheers :) ~ Arjun 13:39, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
Wow, no one's ever made a reference to me! Cool! And btw, I've answered him; and I'll help copyedit that article. Cheers, Arjun! Tohru Honda13 02:15, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Persian cinema: French section

Hi Arjun01:

I asked for permission from Darius Kadivar the writer of the article I used for French section. He just replied me:

Yes please go ahead but please refer to my name in the publication.

I will be updating the article in a future publication I hope for payvand with new additions for instance Darius Khondji who is also half French.

I am very happy that you came across my article.

warm Regards and stay in touch.

I am glad to hear, good luck. Let me know if I can be of assistance in anyway. ~ Arjun 13:40, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
The main problem with that section is that it is too long. Would that be possible for you to make it more compact ? (if you have time) Sangak 13:47, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
Yeah I trimmed it a tad but it is still a little long. be bold and try to do some trimming of unnecessary text. Regards, ~ Arjun 13:52, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Your administrator tools may be required again

I noticed you were the admin who rm'd the Semi-protect off of the Terry Kath article so I thought I would bring this to your attention. I caught, what I thought, was a mass edit on the article but, after reviewing the article history, it turned out the article was being rv'd back to a version several months old. These rv's are being done by an IP range that has a lengthy history of edit wars and vandalism on the article. The IP is a dynamic but always beginning with 128.100.X.X. I have rv'd it twice already and can only do that 1 more time before I have to bow out. If you can check in on it could you make sure the article is left in it's most current state, 1 edit prior to the 128 intrusion. Maybe the semi-protect needs to go back on if this abusive editor intends on persistent attacks? Thanks. Good day! 216.21.150.44 02:07, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Charles Dickens

Hi. Thank you for semi-protecting the page. It's been awfully quiet since. I'm wondering, do you think it's appropriate to use sprotected2 there, as the page's gone on and off SP (is that the abbreviation?) a few times, and it'll be an attractive target for vandalism for a long time. Xiner (talk, email) 22:01, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

I am not sure if that is the best idea, sprotect2 is really for rare circumstance. Like for example George Bush. Probably not for Charles Dickens. But only time will tell. Cheers! ~ Arjun 20:47, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
There are many of them, but so long as you'll think about it. Thanks. Xiner (talk, email) 20:54, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Your pictures

It is getting better. I like how you made them black and white (was that with the camera, or an editor?). I think the best picture you have there is the candy, since you have just about everything packed into one picture. Besides, candy is good for your health... sort of. :) One tip that I could give you would have come in handy in the water-fountain image: when you're using flash against a reflective substance (such as wood, or in this case paint), take the picture at a slight angle (whether vertically or horizontally is your choice), to avoid the flash bouncing back to the camera, and appearing as blown highlights. Also, you might want to read up a bit here, they have some really useful tips. · AO Talk 02:22, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

You are forgiven. :) As for "Wikipedia is changing", I don't think it's changed so drastically that someone who doesn't do alsmost any administrative tasks (i.e. yours truly) would be promoted. That's why I'm trying to get a bit more involved in WP:SSP. Of course, this might help a bit. :D Hmm... was that a violation of WP:BEAN? :) I agree with your removal of content; I don't think private life should be documented too closely on userpages. The picture looks very good, although I'm not sure what the subject is exactly (aside from the fact that it's a piano). By the way, is that your piano?! · AO Talk 21:19, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

making wikipedia a better place.

My goal here at wikipedia is going to be to try to make it a better place. One "trend" I am trying to start is you leave a nice comment that is meant to uplift someone on there talk page, and tell them to go to others and write something positive about them. Wikipedia is a tough place to be and that is why I pretty much left for a month. Here it goes, I think that you are a very friendly editor. Now pass on a comment to someone else. WP:RFCU and clerks

Greetings! A recent change has been made in the clerking system at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser. There are no longer any obstacles to editors who wish to help out in this areas, as the standby list has now been deprecated. You were listed as a volunteer on the standby list before it was deprecated. If you are still interested in helping out in this area, please:

  • Consider adding yourself to the list of active clerks at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Clerks.
  • In helping, please make sure you follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Procedures as it is very important to the process there to follow these instructions for smooth operation.
  • Please remember "Trust between the clerks and the checkusers is essential. Clerks who persistently make problematic comments on requests or otherwise violate decorum may be asked by the checkusers to cease contributing here."
  • Add Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Clerks/Noticeboard to your watchlist to stay up to do date on the latest communications happening regarding this role.
  • "Be aware that this position is rather dull and carries no particular prestige; status-seeking will not be looked upon kindly."

I am not involved with the checkuser system. I am acting only to inform you of this change. Thank you. --Durin 14:33, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Lol; It feels like it is impossible to take a break from this place ;). Probably because Wikipedia is just too cool :D. ~ Arjun 19:04, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
In reply to your comment above, absolutely, something must be done. It's unfortunate that the MfD will probably result in keep; however, I think a hard fast rule should be these pages must never be mass spammed, in signatures, talk pages or otherwise. Majorly (o rly?) 19:05, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes I agree 100%; it is just common sense. The "SIGN HERE PLEASE" in sigs should be removed as it is spamming and the spamming of talk pages should also be highly frowned upon as it is spam. The users should be warned, if the user continues they are blocked for a short time (1-2 days). ~ Arjun 19:09, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, and what about those who don't actually edit articles? There should be some kind of rule that forbids only this sort of activity; we are an encyclopedia, after all. Majorly (o rly?) 19:13, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Editors who have sig pages should be warned and there sig pages deleted. They can recreate thus pages once they start contributing to the article space. That I think would be a good idea for that scenario, as it is blatant WP:USER vio. Hopefully the community can agree with that o_0. ~ Arjun 19:17, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Not sure if it works there the same way as it does here, but if it does then vote fishing and campaigning is frowned down upon immensely. My advice is to refrain from doing so. anthonycfc [talk] 00:31, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Questionable image

There is an image of J. Michael Luttig on wikipedia, this one: Image:050623 luttig ex.jpg. For some unknown reason it is not used on the article and is orphaned. Also, it looks like an official photo of a judge, but it comes from an unfree source, the Slate magazine, I do not know if it is in public domain. Can you take a look at this situation? Thanks! Wooyi 19:29, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, this is tricky. I am going to ask about. ~ Arjun 15:34, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm not an image expert, but I located where the Slate magazine image came from: here. The photo credit at the bottom of that article states "Photograph of ... Michael J. Luttig courtesy of Michael J. Luttig." So that is not proof that it was an official government photograph of Judge Luttig, though of course it might have been. It is possible that a free image photograph could be obtained from the Boeing Corporation, of which Luttig is now the general counsel. Hope this helps. Newyorkbrad 02:18, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
I sent an email to Boeing Company and I'm going to see if they will reply. Also another questionable image I found is Image:Pregerson.jpg, a portrait of Judge Harry Pregerson, seemly coming from an unfree source (here), a website of an organization which says contents are copyrighted. Can you please go take at a look at it as well? Thanks! Wooyi 02:47, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
I'll look at it in the morning, but as a starting point for both of them, have you queried the users who uploaded the images? Regards, Newyorkbrad 02:49, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Just notified both uploaders. Hopefully they'll reply. However it seems unlikely because I checked their contribution and they did very few contribution beside uploading the images. Wooyi 02:57, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Hope you are doing well, both here and in the "real world" ! Cheers. Abecedare 17:34, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Heya

Good, thanks! I just got renamed, yay :) How's life? You on wikibreak or not? Don't keep me guessing :p – riana_dzasta 14:24, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I've become oddly attached to my signature... I tried out something new but it just didn't feel right! I need to think of something that works... Any ideas? :) – riana_dzasta 14:29, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Om in template

Arjun, you have seen the image of the letter 'om' which I have found to be most accurate. Can you find some way to use it in our template, or at least have an image created for the template which is accurate? The effort will be worth it.Kanchanamala 06:42, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Just sayin' hi. How's it going? –Llama mantalkcontribs 01:19, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Arjun! How's it going? (copying Llama man) Cheers, S.D. 13:08, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Hmm...double posts. I might as well answer here :). I have been fine, really I have. Sadly I have been busy in the Real Life with Music, school, photography and even being a volunteer out in the Special Olympics. Cheers! ~ Arjun 16:56, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Um...hi again. — MalcolmUse the schwartz! 02:36, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Well, not much has happened besides my name change. Sad to see you considering retirement. If you feel you have to, I won't object, but you will be missed (obviously). — MalcolmUse the schwartz! 02:44, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Exclamation marks are still cooler. ;) Well, I guess this is goodbye (for the most part — semi-goodbye?). I hope things go well in real life. — MalcolmUse the schwartz! 02:54, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
I left a message on their talk pages a while ago, but they never replied. I hope they come back someday. — MalcolmUse the schwartz! 17:10, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

BeTuitive deletion

Arjun,

Please email or call me so I can understand why you deleted our posting for BeTuitive.

It's a word that we created (obviously), the same as Google created their name and we're working to get it recognized and used as a verb.

Thanks,

<personal info removed> —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.232.9.142 (talk) 16:40, 19 March 2007 (UTC).

Well basically you summed up my deletion, while it sounds like a good idea it is non-notable. Because it came across as some sort of advertisment, something Wikipedia will not have. However if you are a notable company (read WP:CORP) then please recreate your article from the NPOV. Cheers. ~ Arjun 22:15, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Om-kara

Wake up, Arjun. Won't you do something about the Om in the template as requested above? Thanks.Kanchanamala 09:30, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

So sorry, I have been busy and I missed your earlier post. Please forgive, however I don't think that I could come up with a very good one. I only have the Microsoft paint tool and...I can barely drawl a circle with it. Do you have any software that could come up with a nice .png? ~ Arjun 11:37, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Please.

Could you restore removed links from Swadhyay Parivar by a strange new editor? Aksi has been threatening block. It's apparent that he is abusing admin's power. See his behaviour and communication on my talk page. Just use your logic for recent removal of links from Swadhyay Parivar and recent past vandals of Hemendra. swadhyayee 14:13, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

O.k I checked this out earlier, things seem ok. Glad you weren't blocked, that would be unfortunate. Just really be careful to not Revert 3 times in 24 hours. When it comes to 3RR stuff I don't get involved, I have never been blocked for it nor will I ever block for it. It is just too controversial in itself. ~ Arjun 01:31, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Arjun,

I did not come back to your user talk page and saw this message just now. It's good that you have protected it. swadhyayee 07:55, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

A request

Hi Arjun

I know we haven't worked on any article together, but I've seen you all over WP. We bumped into each other once - your signature page, I was the lucky winner :P remember?

Well, I had a request - what do you believe would happen if I self-nominated myself on RfA?

I know theres admin-coaching to do these things, but I just wanted your opinion. I've seen a lot of your work, and I came across an RfA (dont remember the candidates name now, sorry) where you supported the candidate but also noted that lack of experience would probably mean he wouldnt get it. I felt that was a very nice thing to say, supporting an editor when the rest blew him off as an over-ambitious newbie.

I'd like to clarify - adminship isn't a big deal to me, even Jimbo says thats "becoming a sys-op is no big deal". I was just looking for some ways to help with the maintainence part of WP. I know very well the sort of backlog the admins have to deal with, and being a regular RC patroller, I know what sort of vandalism the project has to fight on a daily basis.

I'm proud of my work on WP:PM - that list was three times the size before I started work on it. I could help on WP:AIV, and WP:CSD. Many times during RC patrol, I'll find a vandal messing with a page, and after reverting and warning multiple times, the vandal gets blocked from someone looking at AIV. But this usually takes time. The damage done to the page is easily reverted, but by protecting the page (or semi-protect) we could minimise the disruption. I wanted to help there.

I haven't worked on any FA, as such. I'm working on Biasing (electronics), hope to bring that up. I've got competitive exams going on, so its hard to devote much time to article-writing. Instead, I vandal-whack in my free time. Strange hobby, I'm sure some of my friends would say, but anyway...

I apologize if all this seems out of the blue. You were a familiar name, and seemed friendly, so I thought I'd bounce this idea off you. I'd appreciate any feedback.

Thanks a ton

Cheers!

xC | 16:27, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Wow, very good resume. :) I must say that you are a very good user, Someone I would trust as an Administrator of this Website. However I would wait just a bit. This is due to the fact that you have less than 3000 edits (barely though), and some will oppose you just for that. I also recommend some more participation in the WP:XFD of Wikipedia, it may seem boring at first but it is a very good thing to get into. Especially since you aspire to be an admin, remember though Adminship is not a trophy of some sort, it is a duty and a rather difficult and at times stressful job.
One more thing, WP:RFA is changing too, the things that used to hold some back are now considered unimportant. Maybe a try at RFA would be a good idea, what do you have to lose? As I said I would trust you, and I am sure others will to. Good luck and no prob, thanks for asking. Cheers. ~ Arjun 01:28, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
I thought as much about the number of edits - that would probably increase anyway, thanks to the vandals, RCP tends to inflate edit counts ;) Thanks for the tip about WP:XFD, for some reason I never wandered in that area and I don't for the life of me know why :P
Maybe I'll try later then, once I have more edits. In the meanwhile, I'll work on my baby Biasing (electronics) and request editor review of myself.
I appreciate your advice, and thanks for taking the time out to reply to such a long message. Thanks again, cheers! xC | 06:26, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey bud

After seeing your name several times on Talk:Piano Concerto No. 2 (Brahms), I was curious and just had to ask you, is classical music one of your interests? —  $PЯINGrαgђ  15:05, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Spring, it is good to hear from you. I hope everything is all right. Yes classical music is my passion, I love the music of Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, Chopin and much more. And "Piano Concerto No.2" from Brahms is one of my favorite pieces ever. The emotion is incredible, you can really feel it... Cheers my friend. ~ Arjun 02:41, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Arjun, it's real great to know that someone your age appreciates classical music. It's really great. btw, have you heard of Antonio Vivaldi? The Four Seasons (specifically Winter) are one of my favorite pieces. Just dropped by to say hi again... Tohru Honda13 05:52, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Project News
  • Jimbo's visit to India and the WikiCamp in Chennai: Jimbo recently visited India in late February and early March on wiki work. This included a trip to a WikiCamp in Chennai. The one day conference attracted 300 participants from across India and beyond dealt with issues facing wikis ([2]). It was widely covered by the press, eg The Hindu( [3]), which cited the efforts of Bhadani (edit count), Sundar (leadership on Tamil Wikipedia) and Ganeshk (Creation of Ganeshbot to create articles on Indian towns from census figures). Ganeshk himself travelled from California to attend the conference.
  • Wikipedia Weekly 15: Wikipedia Weekly, a informal Wikipedians' program that purports to give "A weekly audio roundup of Wikipedia happenings with news, interviews and roundtable discussions" recently interviewed two prominent editors Rama's Arrow and Ragib(listen). The entire 34 minute interview was entirely about the world of Indian subcontinent wiki-happenings, and was the first episode which was not entirely dominated by discussion of wiki-politics and wiki-bureaucracy, with the host Witty lama praising the efficiency of the project and its proliferation of featured content. Rama's Arrow cited the team spirit, friendship and respect among project members in discussing its success and FA productivity, as well as discussing subcontinental wiki-conflict. Ragib talked also of his public campaign to raise awareness of the Bengali Wikipedia in his native Bangladesh, which has seen a 30-fold increase in article count over the past year.

Hi

Hi Arjun, just nominated an article for deletion. Don't know if I've done it right, but everything seems to be fine as of now. If you're free, please do have a look at the page here. Cheers! xC | 19:41, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Swadhyay Parivar

Its the victim of a large scale editorial battle. The only way to stabilize it is to protect it and force the users to communicate.Bakaman 22:33, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Done, thanks for alerting me, even though I have been aware. ~ Arjun 02:34, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks.

Thanks Arjun for protecting Swadhyay Parivar. In fact, if the article has to be on Wikipedia it must be with the facts of criminalisation else it has to go from Wikipedia. It can not be allowed to falsely glorify and project it's image.

Thanks once again,

Swadhyayee.

RFA nom

You don't mind if Wooyi nominates me, do you? After all, he was the first to consider it. He seems real eager to do it. Perhaps you could do that co-nom thing (I don't know really, I'm just so dumbstruck right now). Thank you, Arjun. You are one of the great editors who have helped me to become a better editor, and to help me to pluck up some courage to say yes to a nomination. :D Tohru Honda13 02:07, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Tohru Honda admin nom

Hey Arjun! Please remove Tohru Honda's admin nom from the RFA page, she has indicated in my talk page that she does not wish her RFA page to be transcluded until she work more on it tommorrow. Thanks! Here is what she posted on my talk page:

Okay, I've filled everything out, but please don't put it on RFA yet; I'm going to work more on it tomorrow. I must sleep for school tomorrow. Thanks again, Wooyi. Tohru Honda13 03:22, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

And because of the transclusion, User:SUIT apparently thought her answers were final and changed his vote from support to neutral. Alas! So please de-transclude it before she work on those answers tomorrow.

-Wooyi 04:35, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Just de-transluded it myself. Feel free to put it back when she finish those answers tomorrow. Cheers! Wooyi 04:46, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Eh?

Just wondering when you'd make up your mind about leaving, wikibreak, or staying. I think you've said you're leaving twice, and wikibreak about five times. And then, you always change your mind! I find this quite comical. :-) · AO Talk 12:44, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Request

Can you please add Category:Indian Wikipedia administrators to your user page? However it's an absolutely personal matter to add that or not! Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 09:13, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

I am wondering when your name will be in that category. You are surely a great editor, being an admin will help Wikipedia greatly. ~ Arjun 01:49, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
