You're welcome. We've just started testing Couchbase at my workplace, and I was surprised to see there was so little about it on Wikipedia. So like a good sysadmin, I fixed it. :-) Altered Walter (talk) 09:31, 22 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Deleted page: Ontario Universities' Application Centre

Hi there, thanks for the information you provided regarding the conflict of interest for the information I had started to provide on the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) Wikipedia page. I certainly understand why this is so and I apologize that I was not aware of these terms prior to starting to add to this article. It's particularly frustrating that I didn't as I had spent nearly half a day (of company time) on it only to have it deleted once I was almost done. Regardless, I have requested the information from an administrator so that I can use some of what I already had to re-create the article in my own words and submit for approval via the proper means per your suggestion. As a Communications Specialist and a freelance journalist, I can certainly appreciate the importance of copyrighted material and the severity of plagiarism and would not jeopardize my career or integrity by violating either.

On a side note, though some information was copied from the OUAC website, I was in the process of re-writing it and was merely using the base information as a reference of the facts. I suppose I shouldn't have done this right in Wikipedia, but I wanted to format as I went along. This was my mistake. The rest of the information, though (i.e., all of the historical information) was written by me for internal use. These facts were heavily researched with the archives here at the OUAC and approved by managers and the Executive Director. This history is objective and doesn't exist anywhere else except for on an internal website that only those with the link can access. This information is strictly factual and, since I wrote it, I don't believe it conflicts with the guidelines you provided me with. As I had already started to re-write some of this information to be a bit more formal for the Wikipedia platform, I hope that I am able to use this for the OUAC Wikipedia page. It is far more extensive and factual than the information that is already there.

I understand why the conflict of interest clause exists, but I don't think it applies here as all of the information I want to provide is objective and strictly historical/informational. I am simply trying to provide the facts. Internally, my department noticed that Facebook pulls information from Wikipedia and the OUAC's Facebook community page was severely lacking so I was tasked with adding to the Wikiepedia page, and vicariously, the Facebook page. If this continues to be a conflict of interest because I work here, I would be interested to know who would be a better source of historical information than someone who works at the OUAC and spent months searching through archives to create a history for our recent 40th anniversary. And if someone else would like to tackle this Wikipedia page, that would be greatly appreciated as we only want the correct facts to be available for those interested. I'm not sure who else would have access to this information who doesn't work here, though.

Thanks. --CarlaWhite (talk) 14:14, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

DavidContent and starting questions

Thanks for the hearty welcome!

I do work for the subject of the article, and just today I made a few re-wordings because the phrases seemed to me to be less than neutral, so there certainly is something to the wikipedia warning you referenced. I tried to follow the example of Empire_Today, which I discovered in Google, and found to be just basically interesting, their history and background, without sounding like a sales drive, and that's not my natural bend anyway, yet here I am making edits.

My question is, are you suggesting I delete the article from the general area, and submit it to you directly for review? I had originally posted it into an "Articles For Creation" space, but I later learned that this was for non registered user contributions (I'm registered) and was in quite a backlog. I just posted it in the proper sense and tried to remove it from there, because I thought I'd made unnecessary work for overloaded people. Should I repost it there though? I don't think it's a sales pitch, but I *do* think I would like to have someone point out where the language could be well honed to make it a better piece for the website, show me what I'm blind to. What do you think is the best way for me to do this?

As to my username, it is, I believe like yours, not my given birth name, but it is an exclusive account to me. I am the only one using it. It is the same name I use in other web spots where, if I leave the company or this position, we can't really start from scratch with a new person getting a new account and picking up where I left off. In those cases, I would hand over those very reigns to another, but in this case - it's wikipedia. Anyone can edit anything, so a new person can get their own account. Do you, though, recommend I alter my account to just make it more personal? Associate it with my personal email and such? I did the other, because for now I want to get any communications here, but that's easily managed, and obviously, I *can* keep it if I leave, again because of the unique way wikipedia operates.

I hope my questions aren't too much of a bother. I did look around at a lot of introductory articles on wikipedia while preparing and composing (it's been over a month trying to get it rightly formatted and such), but clearly I did not see everything, so I thank you for not only pointing things out, concerns and tips both, but also for offering me your ear.

Hello, and thanks for your contributions. However, I strongly recommend that you have a read of WP:Conflict of interest, and don't edit the article about your company: it will be almost impossible for you to write objectively about it. There are lots of other articles where we need your skills though. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 15:48, 6 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Dates on tags

Hi there. Welcome to Wikipedia -- it's good to see you here. When you add tags to articles, like the {{copyedit}} tag on Al-Jazeera (Amman), please could you make sure to put the correct month and year on it, not a past month and year. It's more than just a housekeeping matter, as using old dates causes old categories to be recreated and need tidying up. It's better to add no date (which a bot will soon fix) rather than to add an early date. Regards, --Stfg (talk) 19:13, 6 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Oops - that was a copy, paste and edit of the tag above it, but forgot to update the date bit. Thanks for catching that. Altered Walter (talk) 10:09, 7 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Proposed Speedy Deletion - Zach Bair

Hi Walter, thank you for your welcome to Wikipedia. As I'm new to this, I have already found my page is up for deletion. I'm not creating a page for self promotion or promotion of the company. I'm inserting a biography page because the instant live space in music is relevant to our evolving industry, as is my role in continuing to push this concept forward. It's an evolution - just like iTunes and Steve Jobs (albeit not to that level) but nonetheless and important progression in the continued evolution of live and recorded music. As the original Disclive, we were the pioneer in the space, and I was CEO. Eight years later, the concept is taking much more hold, and I believe is here to stay. DiscLive, just like other pioneering companies, deserves a footnote, as do I; just like Napster; just like other pioneering people and companies. If it were not for me, and others like me, new innovations would come and go quickly and would be a flash in the pan. Holding on to a vision is what helps to change and mold industries. That deserves to stay.

Thanks so much and feel free to let me know if you have any questions!

Hi Zach, and thanks for contributing. You and your company both sound notable, but the language used in the articles is highly promotional, and really sounds like it's straight off a marketing press release. I strongly advise you to wait for someone else to write about you and your company, as it will be almost impossible for you to write objectively about these subjects. Someone who's not connected with the company will write about them eventually. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 16:51, 18 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

I am confused. You claim that user:E55EX9TDT was "created a day after puppeteer was blocked". But that account was created on 2011-11-03 and shows no similarity of editing pattern. Have you got the wrong account? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 19:55, 22 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

No, I'm saying sockpuppet account PediaTDT was created a day after puppeteer E55EX9TDT was blocked. But I see you've now blocked PediaTDT. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 07:55, 23 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Humble apologies. Yes, you said that quite explicitly. The reason I misread it was that I was assuming that this was an immediate re-appearance of PediaTDT (talk · contribs) under a new name because that was distinctly probable (and still is). I did not see any need to drag up a bit of sockpuppetry from a year ago as an excuse for a block - I was willing to block the kid anyway for being a waste of wikispace. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 22:34, 23 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

No problem - the phrasing was a bit awkward in the SPI so I reworded it. Yeah, he'll probably be back (he's been blocked a few times at Wikia already for the same sort of nuisance edits and worse), so it's worth having a basket to throw all the socks in. Hi Altered Walter, thanks for helping me with my edit. I believe the subject fits the criteria of notability for WP. He has been responsible for the creation of thousands of jobs in the UK service sector through the investments he and his company made. They have delivered out-sized returns for investors often in multiples of sum invested if we scrutinise their investments deal by deal. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dangerousrave (talkcontribs) 23:42, 30 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

The article doesn't yet assert notabillity per WP:BIO, and there's no significant, in-depth coverage of him online. He works for a notable company, but notability isn't inherited on Wikipedia, and articles about CEOs of notable companies often get merged into the company article if the CEO's not notable outside of his work for the company. Can you find any in-depth coverage of him - interviews, profiles from WP:Secondary, WP:Reliable sources? Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 23:52, 30 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

yup, the problem is with Private Equity, Venture Capitalist and Hedge Fund industry, subjects often refuse to publicly discuss their deals. This problem has further been compounded since the backlash against bankers post 2008. Industry insiders know the significance of the deals. In the interviews they grant, most are only available through industry publications which cost and arm and a leg to subscribe to for the average person. They are not even searchable on google. One have to search through the archives as a subscriber. The deals are never usually announced until years later when the funds or firm return investments to their investors. For this reason, there is a bias too as more often then not, they chose to publised the very investments that have done well. Private Equity firms have a 10 year investment horizon, which each investment lasting 2-5 years. By the time the information is made public, a lot may have changed.. I am still working on it. As an example, Sovereign is a small fund with only 650 million (compared to mega buyout funds with billions undermanagement). If one took the time to extrapolate and look through their business holdings, one can easily see that they probably hire more than 10,000 people, could easily be 50,000. The subject of my article is one of the most active deal originators. The average PE firm does 3-4 deals a year. This guy does 3-4 a quarter!, his firm does probably 20 a year. Still working on it, thanks for your guidance and patience. For example of you look at the article I created for Sebastian Mallaby, it garned a huge amount of contributors. I met that author and felt he deserve a wikipage as a best selling author, once I started it the amount of contributions was stagerring. However, in his case all the info was available for reference due to the nature of the subject's industry. IMHO, whilst this author deserves a wikipage under WP rule and there is no question about it, Sovereign capital and their partners probably deserve one more due to their sheer contribution to the industry and UK economy. Just that they don't seek the publicity. happy new year Dangerousrave (talk) 11:32, 31 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

There already is a Sovereign Capital article. The article Sebastian Mallaby asserts notability on the basis of many achievements: Pulitzer Prize finalist, in-depth reviews of his books by mainstream press, etc. What has Owen done that makes him comparably notable, and is verifiable? Altered Walter (talk) 11:41, 31 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes, unfortunately Owen is not covered in the mainstream press and only in industry publications. In terms of the sheer number of deals he has done, most firms would do less than 3-4 deals a year. He has done 3-4 per quarter and the knock on effect of the job creation and economy. I understand the WP criteria and agree with your comments on Mallaby. These are the same challenges I encountered when working on my PhD thesis. Academics (and by implication WP) can suffer from herding and intellectual materialism. Nobody thought Mallaby was worthy of a Wiki entry and I had a similar problems creating it in the beginning, which is a great case in point. As you now rightly mentioned, the Mallaby does assert notability. This was not shared in the beginning even though he was Pultizer finalist some time ago first in 2005!!. what makes it harder is the fact that the finance industry has been tarred with the same brush, so a lot of people have some preconceived notion about it. 141.105.208.173 (talk) 14:56, 31 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello, there was a deletion discussion started by another editor at WP:Articles for deletion/WFT Cloud, but the article was speedy deleted on grounds of notability by an admin. If you think the deletion should be reviewed, then have a read of Wikipedia:Deletion review, and if you think there are grounds for a review after reading the "Purpose" section then you can ask for a review using the instructions there. I don't think the article would pass a second deletion discussion, but it's up to you if you want to try. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 11:16, 14 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Template specific to article - opinion needed

StarKid Productions/Cast and StarKid Productions/Crew are templates used specifically on the article StarKid Productions (the parent article) to generate tables that can be easily edited by other users. When I created the templates, I wasn't too sure whether they belonged in the Template namespace, so I set them as subpages instead. They have now been tagged for speedy deletion, one of which by yourself. Please could you offer your opinion on one of the above article's talk page on where these should live, and/or what categories they should be under. Eladkse (talk) 10:51, 4 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, have a read of WP:Subpages - subpages in the main article space are now disabled on English Wikipedia. But the list you removed is unreferenced, and seems a bit unnecessarily detailed: are you sure you need to create a separate page for this? Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 10:54, 4 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for referring me to the policy. I understand, so I'll move them to the template namespace and get the right categories on them. Can I remove the speedy delete to do that, or do I need to let the admin deal with that?
On the old table, there were references at the top of each column. On creating the new table, I moved the references to the bottom for practicality with the template, and replaced them with better references.
In terms of detail, it allows us to collate all the credits of each actor together, as they don't have their own articles. The whole point of changing the table in the first place was due to horizontal space issues (diff) but I still feel it is best to keep the information on this page in such a format. Eladkse (talk)
Understood about collation, but if it's not referenced, then per WP:BLP the info really should be removed. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 11:17, 4 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
What part of 'I moved the references to the bottom for practicality with the template, and replaced them with better references' didn't you understand? :) Eladkse (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 11:19, 4 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
I understand just fine. But you haven't moved it back yet. And I still think that entries for the crew, referenced or not, is excessive WP:DETAIL for this article: it looks like a fan page. Altered Walter (talk) 11:24, 4 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
The references are supposed to be at the bottom of the new table. They can't be integrated with table as that would interfere with the template, and cause a lot of reference duplication within such a small space. It is better, for practicality and readability, just to add reference for the entire table at the bottom.
The table templates have now been moved and properly categorised. Again, thanks for pointing to the policy, and for your assistance. That is all. Eladkse (talk) 12:01, 4 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Umm, no, actually, that is not all. I'll see you at the article's talk page. Altered Walter (talk) 09:42, 5 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

The book has been considered by reliable sources to have made a significant contribution to a religious movement. The book has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial published works appearing in sources of all forms, such as newspaper articles, other books, television documentaries and reviews. User:Priyanku.PhukanPriyanku.Phukan (Talk) 18:22, 08 January 2013 (UTC +5:30)

Sounds good: can you please add some of those non-trivial published WP:Reliable sources to the article? Please ask back here if you need a hand with that. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 13:10, 8 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

CSD of Rohit Monu: a suggestion

Hey, Altered Water! I saw that you had tagged this page for speedy deletion under G3. Not a huge deal (it was clearly speedy deletion-worthy one way or another), but I've deleted it under G2 instead, which is reserved for test pages. It was the clearest example of a G2 test page that I've seen so far, really. Again, no biggie, but just keep it in mind that it might be better to err in favor of calling things test pages rather than vandalism; pages like that don't really meet the Wikipedia definition off vandalism, and it can be discouraging (even more than usual) for people's good-faith editing tests to be labeled vandalism. Regardless, though, thanks for patrolling! Writ Keeper 15:03, 8 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Howdy! I normally do tag kids' pages like that as G2, but have a look at his talk page: he's created it seven times, and has had many warnings about it, so vandalism seemed more appropriate. Thanks for the heads-up though. Altered Walter (talk) 15:04, 8 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hm, fair enough; wasn't aware of the history. It still seems to me that he's experimenting with Wikipedia; he might not know about his talk page yet, so he might not have seen the warnings there. Such persistence in the face of deletions and salting isn't a good sign, though, so your conclusion is definitely justified. Fair enough; carry on! :) Writ Keeper 15:13, 8 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Rahul Easwar

Dear Altered Water; Sir, this is regarding page : Rahul Easwar. Pls view the Discussion & Talk Page. There are a lot of credible counter arguments against deletion of the page. A simple Googling "Rahul Easwar" can make us watch him in the top most channels in India like CNN-IBN, Times Network's Times Now, NDTV & Newspaper giants like Times of India, The Hindu (in Indian Context) etc.

Pls re evaluate your position on speedy deleted (Alex.mathews (talk) 13:05, 9 January 2013 (UTC))Reply

Shall I remove the tag for speedy deletion Sir, with your permission. Have elaborated on talk page of Rahul Easwar & requested on your page too. Would wait for your nod, (Alex.mathews (talk) 13:30, 9 January 2013 (UTC))Reply

The speedy deletion tag, as noted on the page, was because the article has been re-created following three separate deletion discussions. Wait for an administrator to review the article: if it's substantially different from the last three attempts, then the admin will delete the speedy tag. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 14:19, 9 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hollywood.com

Whats the policy on this website - Hollywood.com and why is it not deleted... Why was Lollywood Cafe deleted! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood.com --Sonisona 06:49, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Hello, and thanks for contributing. You might like to have a read of Wikipedia:Notability (web) for guidelines on notability of web sites. The Lollywood Cafe article didn't make any credible assertion of notability, and I couldn't find any significant coverage of the site from a quick search online. The Hollywood.com article, on the other hand, in its current state does make a credible assertion of notability for the site in the form of significant coverage from WP:Secondary, WP:Reliable sources. Two of its three references are news stories in the mainstream media about the site, rather than passing mentions on blogs etc. If you think the Hollywood.com article doesn't sufficiently demonstrate notability, you can try to improve the article by hunting for more info about it online, or if you can't find sufficient evidence of notability you can nominate it for deletion, but I don't think it would get deleted in an WP:Articles for deletion discussion: it's at least weakly notable by Wikipedia's standards. Page Deletion

Hi,

I'm hoping you can help me. You have highlighted my page jetNEXUS Solutions for speedy deletion.

I am trying to set up jetNEXUS on Wikipedia in a similar way to some of the other companies in our field (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KEMP_Technologies), (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F5_Networks), however it continues to be deleted. I have tried to put text in the article to ensure that it is relevant to the company and what they do, however I am having no luck.

There are a lot of other companies in our field which have pages on Wikipedia, and I am really hoping for some assistance on how I can get an article set up for our company without it being deleted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks Nicki — Preceding unsigned comment added by Np91 (talkcontribs) 16:28, 11 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello Nicki, and thanks for contributing. The article has been deleted five times now (under various spellings), because it makes no credible assertion of notability per Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). I suggest you have a read of WP:Conflict of interest, and wait for someone not connected with your company to write about it: it will be extremely difficult for you to write objectively about it. If it's notable, someone will write about it eventually. We'd be very glad for your help with editing other articles here on Wikipedia though - please let me know if I can be of help with that. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 16:33, 11 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Joni Yoswein

Hey,

Thank you for your edits on Joni Yoswein. I'm still trying to get a handle for this. What does an article need to get removed as a "stub" and searchable on Google and the like? Again, thank you so much for your help.

Best,

Redmond — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rhaskins86 (talkcontribs) 19:32, 11 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Thanks for starting the article. Don't worry about the stub tag: that just means it's short at the moment. Let's keep adding content, and then we can just remove the stub tag whenever it's reasonably long. And it's already showing up in Google: it's currently the fourth link returned when I do a Google search for her name. Nice work! :-) Altered Walter (talk) 11:26, 12 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'm still very new at this and appreciate all the help i can get. Thank you very much!! Sam.malmaci (talk) 14:00, 14 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello Sam, and thanks for contributing. At the moment the article doesn't have any references to WP:Verify the assertions made of notability per WP:CORP. But I strongly suggest that you not edit articles about your company, as it will be almost impossible for you to write objectively about something that you're so closely connected with. Wait for someone who's not connected with the company to write about it. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 14:30, 14 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Deletion sorting

Hi Walter, I noticed you delsorted this deletion discussion under People. Where a person is listed under Businesspeople, Actor etc. it is unnecessary to list under People as it just swamps that generic delsort. For example a Soldier would be listed under People & Military whereas a Track & Field athlete would be listed under Sportspeople. Therefore I have crossed out/struck the people delsort as it was unnecessary & removed it from here. Regards ★☆ DUCKISJAMMMY☆★ 05:58, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I agree about redundancy: I'd just seen other people add the "People" sort to AFDs that I'd started, so I sort of assumed it was standard practice on bio AFDs. Baaaaa! :-) Thanks for the tip. Altered Walter (talk) 09:00, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
No worries, most users aren't aware of the rule as the only place it really specifics it is at People itself, it's somewhat like the way we threat categories with SUBCAT. Happy editing ★☆ DUCKISJAMMMY☆★ 09:25, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Rahul Easwar speedy deletion

You nominated Rahul Easwar for speedy deletion, as a repost of an article deleted following Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rahul Easwar (2nd nomination). I speedily deleted it, but it was taken to a deletion review. Having considered it carefully, I decided that there was enough difference between the two versions of the article that it was questionable whether they could be considered sufficiently "substantially identical" for a speedy deletion as a repost, so I have restored the article. That does no, however, mean that I think the article in its present state adequately addresses the issues raised in the deletion discussion, and you are welcome to nominate it at articles for deletion again, if you wish to. Thank you for that. I also replied. Regarding the original research, however, would you mind pointing out precisely for me, for example, one sentence that you read as such? That way I document that sentence first. If there are more than one, then please let me know. The way it reads to me is all simple common knowledge. Because our backgrounds in life are more than likely different, I am sure many other people will agree with you also. Could you help me by being more specific, please? Thank you. You're most welcome for the help. But please note that WP:Original research such as personal experience can't be used to substantiate assertions made on Wikipedia: they need to be WP:Verifiable from WP:Secondary, WP:Reliable sources. Also please note that the BB Publications article so far doesn't explain how it's WP:Notable enough for an encyclopedia article: again, reliable secondary sources are needed to support this. You chose {{Welcome-COI}} to welcome him, you think Smaranikamishra has a COI there, but why? You know, we are asked to assume good faith unless there is evidence beyond a reasonable doubt. Agreed about WP:AGF, but the article is highly promotional in tone, and says "We provide our services with love, skill, compassion and respect for all human dignity - regardless of race, creed or religious affiliation." Yes, you do have a point. And I can't say that I am against your complaints as such. Just as a side note though, the external links - maybe it's not working for me - says nothing about Smaranika Mishra? Am I missing something here? How does that prove his/her interest is twisted? Miss Viet Nam Continents Organization

I got sent the Biography of the organization over email.. how am I suppose to get the reference or the source for it. I am still trying to translate the biography to make it make sense. Thanks.Manhpham (talk) 06:30, 19 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, and thanks for contributing. There's no need to create a separate article for the organization, the list of title holders, etc.: just add it to the main article, with references. If the article gets too big, then we can split it up, but at the moment there are no references at all even in the main article. Let's try to find some WP:Secondary, WP:Reliable sources online to show how the organization is notable enough for an encyclopedia article. The references don't need to be in English: Vietnamese is fine, so long as they're reliable sources. Please let me know if you need any help with this. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 06:33, 19 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi again, Ohh I see what you are saying here. So when the article gets much bigger we can expand on that right.. Yes this wikipedia pagea is pretty new. We are still trying to add in pictures and find primary and secondary links to go with it. It will take some time though. But yeah.. trying to translate this biography.. its hard as. Manhpham (talk) 06:37, 19 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
And what do you mean by finding more sources?? like newspaper articles or something? because those are the things that we could only find that links to the contestants etc. We have youtube links as well if you want them. Yes I think we need help here. Manhpham (talk) 06:40, 19 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, WP:Secondary sources like newspaper articles, books, that sort of thing. If a good reference can only be found in print, then I can show you how to scan it and upload an image to use as a reference. YouTube usually isn't considered to be a WP:Reliable source as a reference, but it's OK to include YouTube references along with more reliable ones. Sean Bockla

I perform WP:BEFORE on all CSD tagging. I restored the CSD and left my comments at Talk:Sean Bockla. I think unless you can find a source that supports that there actually is an HBO series called 'true life of child actors' (I could not find any when searching that title) or that Sean is associated with @AntiBully or that it tours schools nationally (the twitter account has 3 tweets and no links) then I would like an admin to review the CSD. Mkdwtalk 08:14, 19 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Those are all excellent reasons for deletion, but not for WP:CSD, either on A7 or as a hoax. But I'll leave it to the reviewing admin. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 08:18, 19 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
I read what you wrote on the talk page, but I think it was a straight WP:CSD#A7, no credible claim of importance or significance. The only claims of significance were the TV appearances and the forthcoming play, and I don't find them credible. I think the key sentence was "Sean began opening every kind of Social network he could think of... ", and I have explained on his talk page that Wikipedia isn't another social-network and pointed him to WP:NAY and WP:YOUNG. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 11:03, 19 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
That was a tricky one. I always try to stick to WP process on deletion, even though it was plainly full of exaggerations at best. But to be honest, I'm relieved that the kid was spared the humiliation of the inevitable shredding that the article would have received at the AFD. Furthermore Artur Głębocki the owner of this studio has a large collection of audio devices. These audio devices are not only the newest ones but also there you might see during normal work old units like API pre-amplifiers, DBX - compressors and much more. The equipment list can show that the old devices even from 80s are in a good shape and still are considered to be the best. The significance of this studio is shown especialy by these devices which are used for mixing and mastering process. Nowadays one digital devices can imitate a dozens of analog devices. However pofessionals which appreciates the real sound of this old devices will never replace them by one digital unit. If WP:Reliable sources can be found to WP:Verify its WP:Notability then it sounds like that would be a great article. Please ask back here if I can be of any help. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 07:16, 22 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks a lot — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abdullahmosaad (talkcontribs) 12:29, 22 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sure: write it in your own words. Don't just paste something that somebody else wrote. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 12:31, 22 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion declined: Bjørn Sagvolden

Hello Altered Walter. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Bjørn Sagvolden, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article is not substantially the same as the deleted version. A new deletion discussion is required. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 13:16, 22 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

OK, thanks. I won't be taking it to AFD: he seems notable. Altered Walter (talk) 13:18, 22 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
The article is very similar to the deleted version, but not close enough for speedy deletion. <shrug> — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 13:25, 22 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hm, well probably somebody else will AFD it then. Altered Walter (talk) 13:28, 22 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I have unreviewed a page you curated

Hi, I'm MrX. I wanted to let you know that I saw the page you reviewed, Bhavesh Kumar Pandey, and have un-reviewed it again. If you've got any questions, please ask me on my talk page. Thanks, MrX

I did? Well, I didn't mean to! :) It's an unreferenced vanity page, and I was only waiting my usual 10 minutes before speedying it. I see he's removed the maintenance tags too - nice. Altered Walter (talk) 14:37, 22 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
There is a setting in Twinkle which marks pages as patrolled when they are tagged with maintenance tags. (It's called: "Mark page as patrolled when tagging (if possible)". You can turn it off, however, I just found out that mine has turned itself back on and now I can't disable it. It must be a bug. - MrX 14:43, 22 January 2013 (UTC)`Reply
Aha, that does make sense. Thanks. Altered Walter (talk) 14:46, 22 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Editing and Grant Harrold

Hi Altered Walter Apologies but new to wikipedia and so am unsure as to whether I'm doing the right thing or not! I wanted to give some more information about Grant, and was wondering why everything I'd written had been removed? Also the court case needs to go lower down the profile as there are other bits that occured chronologically before then. The dates are also wrong for some of the detail you have given. As such, will edit again and hope for the best!

Thanks Shell1973 (talk) 09:29, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello, and welcome. What's been removed that you'd written? Please do correct the dates, if you've got better sources to verify, and feel free to move the part about the court case, but please don't remove it altogether again. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 09:31, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. Have got another question though and am hoping that you're the person to help! How do I create the basic information box to the side which gives a brief precis on Grant. Thanks again and sorry to be a nuisance Shell1973 (talk) 09:38, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'm most happy to help, no trouble at all! To add an information box for a person, you add the template Template:Infobox person. I'll add that now, and you can fill it in and delete as you see fit. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 09:47, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

That's great thanks. I'm just adding some more detail to the profile now. Can I add photo's too? Shell1973 (talk) 09:49, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes please do, that would be great: see Wikipedia:Uploading images for more info, and please ask if you have any questions. Altered Walter (talk) 09:57, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks again Shell1973 (talk) 10:44, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Anytime. By the way, you might like to have a read of WP:Neutral point of view: it's most important not to use promotional language in any article, including articles about people. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 10:46, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks again. Just after your advice again - does it look like I'm trying to promote Grant as per your Neutral point of view recommendation. Cheers Shell1973 (talk) 11:38, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I've made some further edits for WP:NPOV: it's looking good now, thanks. Altered Walter (talk)

Me again sorry to be a nuisance but having a senior moment and can't seem to get the picture which I've lifted from wwww.grantharrold.com on to the profile. Any advice greatky received. Thanks Shell1973 (talk) 11:50, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your help with Grant Harrold file. Shell1973 (talk) 13:43, 25 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

You're most welcome. Altered Walter (talk) 13:45, 25 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ermanno Scervino wikipedia article in english

Hi, I translated Ermanno Scervino's wikipedia italian article in english but the page has been deleted due to promotional reasons. In my opinion the article is neutral and doesn't promote or advertise this brand. Please kindly let me know the reasons why you don't agree with that. May you highlight which part are considered promotional so I can do my best with the amendments. I reckon many english speaking people would like to know something more about Ermanno Scervino and wikipedia is definitely the best source to do so. Thanks Marco — Preceding unsigned comment added by M.marco.marco (talkcontribs)

The entire article is highly promotional, and what you've translated is the highly promotional version that you attempted at Italian Wikipedia. Please have a read of WP:Conflict of interest, and wait for someone not connected with your company to write about it. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 10:42, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Shayan Anique Akhtar

I create this page of mine and I wanted it to be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shayan Anique (talkcontribs) 16:02, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I understand, but other editors have also done substantial work on the page. If you think it should be deleted, then you can nominate it for deletion: please see WP:AFD for more info. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 16:05, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I want my article to be deleted

I have put the speedy deletion notice on the page of me I created. Now Please delete it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shayan_Anique_Akhtar — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shayan Anique (talkcontribs)

cross-posted from Shayan's talk page Hey, Shayan Anique! I'm afraid I had to decline your speedy deletion request on your article; it wasn't eligible for G7, since others have contributed to it. Author requests for deletion only work when nobody else has contributed to the article. However, if you like, you can nominate it for a deletion discussion at AfD, where editors can come together to decide whether to keep or to delete the page. Your requests will be taken into account in this discussion; it's just not enough for the article to be summarily deleted at your request. If you need help with the AfD process, just drop me a note on my talk page, and I'll help you with it. Thanks! Writ Keeper 16:46, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Moving copyvio drafts

Dear Altered Walter, you recently moved Talk:Foundation for Defense of Democracies/Temp to User talk:Liberty20036/Foundation for Defense of Democracies/Temp and then tagged the former for speedy deletion. As far as I can tell, this was improper. The {{copyvio}} template specifically instructs users rewriting infringing articles to place their drafts in the Talk namespace, using the same title as the original article with "/Temp" appended. Other templates used by administrators and copyright clerks expect drafts to be in this location. Now that you have moved and deleted this draft, it is no longer listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2013 January 23, and will therefore be overlooked when the copyvio is processed. Could I please ask you to move the draft back to its proper location, or to arrange for an administrator to do this, and to inform the draft's author? —Psychonaut (talk) 17:08, 25 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Happy to put any errors right, but I don't see that instruction in {{copyvio}}...? Altered Walter (talk) 17:11, 25 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Check {{copyviocore}} which it transcludes. Or better yet, see it in action (i.e., with the fields instantiated) at Foundation for Defense of Democracies. Follow the link next to the heading 'Otherwise, you may write a new article without copyright-infringing material. Click "Show" to read where and how.' and examine the link "Follow this link to create the temporary subpage". You'll see it goes to Talk:Foundation for Defense of Democracies/Temp. As I mentioned before, there are other templates which also point to this location, such as the one used to create Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2013 January 23. —Psychonaut (talk) 17:23, 25 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Ah, a helpfully hidden link! :-) That's odd - subpages are no longer supported in main article space on English WP. But if that's the process, then I'll stick to it. Moving it now... Altered Walter (talk) 17:26, 25 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Done. Thanks for the heads-up. Altered Walter (talk) 17:29, 25 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for fixing things! :) —Psychonaut (talk) 19:46, 25 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Kate Borcherding - Anthony Knape Conflict of Interest

Dear Altered Walter,

The page for Kate Borcherding now has a reference to her Visiting Artist Award/Residence at Baltimore Clayworks.

Is there any information on her page that needs to be deleted in order to remove the Potential Conflict of Interest heading at the top? Also do we need to just delete some of the awards to remove the needs citation tag under Exhibitions?

In other words, now that notability has been achieved. I would like to work with you to achieve neutral tone as acceptable by Wikipedia editors standards.

Thanks, anthony — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anthonyknape (talkcontribs) 14:32, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I think the tone is pretty neutral now, so I've removed the COI tag. Regarding the citations tag, I've commented out the unsourced assertions for now until references are found, and removed the citations tag. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 15:19, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Kelly King Anderson

Hi! Thanks for your help with that! I am pretty new around here, in 2013 I decided I would join up with Wikipedia - I have been involved in a startup myself so I wanted to improve/add new articles about tech entrepreneurs and their companies. I was reading articles can have too many citations. With this startup Princess one and Kelly King Anderson - http://startupprincess.com/press/ There are all of these articles on their website which talk about their company and its founder. I just dont know which ones are most relevant to use? Perhaps you can point out which ones would be most likley to address the notability concerns. Thanks! Monstermarch (talk) 16:39, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, and thanks for contributing. Nearly all of the press links on that site talk about the company itself: the ones that talk about Ms. Anderson are interested in her work on the site. Notability isn't inherited on Wikipedia, and articles about company CEOs tend to get merged to the company article itself. How is she notable per WP:BIO outside of her work in the company? Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 16:42, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thats a good question, Ill have to do some more research. (I have a lot of time today and tomorrow so I can do some in depth searching.) The sense I am getting is there has to be a "something else" notable. My guess is the something else stems either from her work with the university, the charity, or in her career prior. But Ill read the bio section you suggested, and see what I can come up with. Monstermarch (talk) 17:04, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
