Hi edit

Hi mate. thanks a lot for the assistance. Do what you can, dont worry about Grammar... it usually gets fixed very quickly. Why dont you join the Indian military history task force. That gives a lot of help in figuring out whats needed. Also, other groups are WikiProject Aircraft and others.

See you around.. cheers. Sniperz11 12:38, 21 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ajay. Great going with the Template:Indian Army Arms and Services page. However, I don't know how useful it will be, especially since almost all the links are dead, and dont have any pages created yet. Still, it will be quite useful... make sure that it doesn't get orphaned. The best way to do that is to create a user sub-page and copy the code onto there, as well as link the template there. I'd also suggest posting it on the army talk page and asking for consensus... its a good way to improve it or change it.
Another useful thing that I find is to create my user sub pages, and create stuff there.... take a look at User:Sniperz11/Subpages for an example... its less messier than creating a proper wikipedia page and tinkering with it (although I'm sure you already know this).
As for your point in the Army talk page about weapon systems, its quite valid, and I agree... you did the right thing by posting it there... you can also post a link to your template and ask for opinions there.
P.S.: when you post a comment on the talk page, sign your comments by typing ~~~ (name only) or ~~~~ (For name and date). Cheers. Sniperz11 14:23, 22 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
you don't need to take any permission to create a page or a user sub-page. Just create the link and edit it..
But for Wikipedia Article pages, usually, (especially if the page is under purview of one or more wikiprojects), its a good idea to create the page in a user sub-page, and ask for opinions at the relevant project page... that way, it becomes visible and starts to draw editors, as well as prevents from getting orphaned and deleted. Of course, if there isn't any response, you can just create the page, add it to the suitable wikiproject, and people will come start editing it eventually.
Another good thing to do when you create the page is to create redirects to it. For example, Kargil War, Kargil Conflict, Indo-Pakistan War of 1999, etc. are all the same. But if you search for them, only one will get you to the right place. So you go to each of those pages, and redirect them to the correct place. Sniperz11 00:52, 23 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (Image:StarOne.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:StarOne.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 06:18, 4 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Indian Army Infantry Regiments edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have perfomed a web search with the contents of Indian Army Infantry Regiments, and it appears to be a substantial copy of http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/india/rgt.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. Hi Ajay,

Sorry that your edits got reverted. Trust its been a good learning though through the perilous jungle of Wikipedia. Regards, AshLin 04:55, 16 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Indian cinema edit

Yes I have done a lot of work on Indian films and lists but predominantly Bollywood which I have split by year. Due the fact that the original Tamil and Telugu list were so incomprehendable I only split them by decade and haven't cleaned them up because I have no knowledge of the films and imdb is very poor for tamil and telugu. I had strongly hoped that somebody from Indian cinema would come along and beautify them like the Bollywood films which I split by year and are now linked in Template:Bollywood. I strongly urge somebody to do the same with Tamil and Telegu films - a detailed guide by year (given the sheer amount of films) and have the Template:Tamilcinema linked with the years in Tamil film at the bottom of every article like bollywood. i'd like to see cleaned up and developed pages like Tamil films of 1972 like Bollywood films of 1972etc. Unfortunately it never seems like anybody except Shahid, Bollywood dreamz and universal hero are consistently active in this group aside from myself, let alone in Tamil or telugu cinema. pLease can somebody clean up the tamil and telegu lists and perhaps from 1950 onwards split by year like Bollywood. Regards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 15:19, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Bollywood is in the middle of development. Ideally I want tamil and telugu to have pages like :

♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 15:21, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes imdb is shocking for the Indian films aside from Bollywood -there is no info available whatsoever. Whilst I am a fan of Bollywood mostly I;d love to see Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam cinema develop too and have some kind of equal coverage - I;m sure there is a huge amount of info that can be written for these films and full articles eventually but any that is available is likely to be in the native languages of course. You;ve done exactly what I wanted to see for Telugu films of the 2000s. I;ve now linked them in the side plate. If you could generate pages like this for Telugu it would be half the weight of my shoulders with my concerns for Indian cinema - I hope somebody else can follow mine or your example for tamil film also. Keep up the good work. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 15:57, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

One of the tasls will be to ensure that every film whether it is bollywood, tollywood, kollywood, mollywood or whatever connects to the "Catalogue" of films by year. I feel we will have our indian films under control if we can achieve this -it lays out the history of the cinema in a highly oeganized way and allows quick access. I am going to be going through bollywood films and adding both the Template:Bollywood and Template:CinemaofIndia if you could ensure all telugu films have these at the foot things will become connected and develop well:

♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 16:03, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Aha Naa Pellanta is exactly how I;d love to see all telugu and tamil articles to look like. They don;t have to be full length articles but they need to be cleaned like this with the infobox and image correct structure plot cast release etc and categories and templates. Great work!!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 16:17, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Great. Let me know where you think the Telugu years should begin. Bollywood film soon enough begin with 1950 -films began to be produced big time after WWII I think. Would you be happy if I red linked 1960 -present in the tollywood template for development or do you think the 1950s had enough by year to permit it to begin at 1950. Obviously 1930s and 1940s didn;t have enough films by year (asa far as I am aware) ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 16:23, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes I agree also. Mmm. I tell you what we;ll leave it as decades for now pre 2000 and once they have fully developed by decade we'll see if it is necessary to split by year, Remember the Bollywood film lists were only split by year once the decade pages had developed. This way we know how many films we are dealing with and whether it is feasible to have by year. Anyway I'll move tollywood 1930s to telugu per consensus ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 16:54, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ah yes don't I know about it only too well!!! A similar situation occured over the Jats people involving my good friend User:John Hill an expert on central asian history who was quite rudely confronted by people with a political agenda. People serioudly need to remember this is supposed to be a neutral encyclopedia covering the entirety of our world to date in an even and neutral manner -not a forum for political activity or gain!! I set up WikiProject Tibet on wikipedia and am constantly having to revert the main Tibet article and related ones by Chinese editors who think they need to protect china by reverting any idea that Tibet was once independent ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 17:16, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Good job on tagging some of the new Indian cinema articles. One quick note: please use {{Film}} for the WP Films banner instead of {{FilmsWikiProject}}. While the latter will still work as of now, I'm trying to change over all instances of it to the shorter one, so I'd appreciate not having to worry about new occurrences. Many thanks! :) Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 19:15, 6 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Samyukta Electronic Warfare System edit

Great work mate,

I've made a couple of minor changes. I also added the page to WP:MILHIST, and assessed it. I'll try and expand the page when i can.

Why dont you add a list of articles created by you on your userpage... that way, it'll be easier to navigate.

A small note, the name is spelt "Aatre". "Atre" is a common media typo. I also added a link to his wikipedia page.

Indian Ballistic Missile Defense Program edit

Hi Ajay,

Happy Republic Day. I'm restoring the previous version, since it gives an overview of the program. Basically, the lead section should give an overview of the whole article, which is why I think we should include info about the tests.

I also have an ulterior motive in keeping the sentence... the sentence makes a great hook for WP:Did you Know. If need be, we can restore your edits after a few days, once DYK is done.

Also, the missile threat from Pakistan has been only from Ballistic missiles, and was so until 2005, when they brought the Babur. Plus, considering that the article is about BMD, its important to mention Ballistic missiles.

The fact that Pakistan made credible nuclear threats during the Kargil War was a wake up call, and gave impetus to our ABM program. I'll try to get a source to verify that. Check out some of the links on User:Sniperz11/Indian BMD Resources. I also found a paper from ISSI, Pakistan, that gives an early overview of the background behind our BMD program, but I did find it somewhat poorly researched in places, considering that it was published in 2006, it should have been more accurate wrt our program.

Image source problem with Image:Jai Chiranjeeva (2005).jpg edit

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Jai Chiranjeeva (2005).jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 06:38, 27 May 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Undeath (talk) 06:38, 27 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Rajendra Prasad (Actor).gif edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Rajendra Prasad (Actor).gif. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Mspraveen (talk) 17:04, 31 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hiya - long time edit

Hi Ajay,

Long time no see... hows life??? Sent u a mail btw.

Anyway, anything new on Wiki Indian defence??

Cheers Sniperz11@CS 10:33, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

(Man, I've been off wiki soo long, that I've even forgotten that we're supposed to sign our comments. :-))

Hehe.... good luck on that. I can help out in any way you want, although ORBAT is really way out of my league--- have absolutely no idea on how that works. How and from where are you finding info on that??? If you do get any info on IAF sqns, add it to the page... I'm trying to create a map for the bases as well. Anyway, as I pointed out in my mail, I've mailed someone in the CIC asking whether pics released by public bodies are Public domain under RTI... I do hope it is. Btw, could you keep adding any latest info on the MRCA to the page - there may be stuff that i'd have missed out on.
Anyway, whats goin on otherwise?? What happened to IDF posts??? Sniperz11@CS 05:47, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
P.S. Can you take a look at User:Sniperz11/Sandbox_4 relating to the List of Indian Air Force Bases and let me know about the map in the end, andif you have any suggestions to improve it. Another thing, do you know where I can get a list of and details of Indian Naval Bases? Thanks. Sniperz11@CS 08:19, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
P.P.S. Something that I think may help u with the ORBAT part - http://orbat.com/site/maps/maps.html and some of the links on http://orbat.com/site/cimh/index.html. Cheers. Sniperz11@CS 08:54, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, different colors for different commands is not difficult - I'm doin it now. However, different for AFS and FLBUs is a bit problematic, since I'm not able to find any official sources for the distinction till now, and for all practical purposes, they are the same, more so when we're converting some of them to full scale AFS's. Plus, I'm running out of colours. :-).
Map creation, at least for the location, check out the syntax on my sandbox #4. Else, go through the links on WP:Map.... its a bit tough, so best is to copy code and configure, or ask for help. Sniperz11@CS 11:29, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikimedia Stories Project edit

Hello,

My name is Victor Grigas, and I'm a storyteller at the Wikimedia foundation. We're telling stories of Wikipedia users, editors, donors, programmers and staff to paint a picture of who uses Wikipedia - for the 2011 fundraiser.

I am in the process of planning a trip to India to gather stories from Indian Wikipedians in face-to-face interviews (possibly on video).

My primary goal is to conduct 15-20 interviews, and hopefully enough of my interviews will make compelling stories that will effectively solicit donations from the public. These stories may also be used for other communication purposes by the foundation.

I found your userpage on a list of prolific Wikipedians and thought I’d reach out to you. Prolific editing is always a good story to tell!

If you are interested in participating, please contact me via my email:

vgrigas@wikimedia.org

Thank you for your time!

Victor

Orphaned non-free media (File:2002 Raaz.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading File:2002 Raaz.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:05, 26 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
