Confessions Remixed

edit

Hi there, just a little note to let you know not to include any bootleg information or images on Wiki, its not relevant nor appropriate to the pages such as Confessions_on_a_Dance_Floor#Confessions_Remixed. We need to keep it factual and not include this information as it is not official nor necessary. Thanks JWAD talk 21:32, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

No worries at all, we just need to keep this irrelevant information off the pages altogether as it has nothing to do with the releases. Anyone can make up a bootleg, so this is why it should never be mentioned nor included. :) JWAD talk 21:40, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Snow Leopard Userbox

edit

Thanks for your note. As you saw copyrighted images cannot be put in userboxes. This is not just a Wikipedia rule, but US copyright law (the Wikipedia servers are in Florida so come under US laws). Copyrighted images can only be used as per "fair use" provisions, like fair comment, etc. This allows copyrighted images to be used in articles, but clearly does not include "fan uses" like userboxes. As far as making up your own image and uploading it to Commons and using that, that is fine, as long as it is not a substantial copy of the copyrighted logo. the "X" image I substituted in your userbox was just that - click on it to see how it was uploaded and under what licence. I hope that answers your questions? - -Ahunt (talk) 17:53, 6 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

This account is not a sockpuppet of User:Bongwarrior. Bongwarrior blocked the SpermGobbler account as it is offensive and against the user name policy. I believe that Bongwarrior changed all of the welcome templates left by SpermGobbler as a courtesy to the new editors so they would not be welcomed by an offensive user name. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 21:33, 6 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Falling Down EP.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Falling Down EP.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Σxplicit 05:39, 21 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Removed prod tag from Ubuntu-title.png

edit

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from File:Ubuntu-title.png, which you proposed for deletion, because the page you proposed for deletion was not an article. If you still think the page should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to it, as proposed deletion is only for articles. Instead, consider using WP:FFD for this page. In some cases, a speedy deletion criterion may apply. Thanks! -- Atama 05:49, 25 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Regarding this edit to File:Early photgraph of CambridgeBayWeather.jpg, that speedy deletion rational does not apply to images, and I am not sure why you nominated it.--kelapstick (talk) 22:51, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I'm a little confused over this. Contrary to the rationale "because it is not an image, sound or video file", it is in fact file an image file. While it is not actually being used in an article it is being used on both my user page and at Wikipedia:Facebook, where there are a lot of similar images. Were you intending to tag a different file? Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 22:53, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
No problem. I figured it was just something simple like that. Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 22:55, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi again, I saw that you also nominated a bunch of redirects to Be with You (Wilber Pan & Akon song) for speedy deletion, I am not going to weigh in on the merits of the song having an article not, but the speedy deletion criteria you used is only for articles that either don't exist or are tagged for speedy deletion (not Proposed for deletion). Again, not a big deal, but you should have waited for the song article to be deleted, than nominated the redirects. Cheers.--kelapstick (talk) 23:01, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sounds reasonable, just thought I would make sure that you knew. Have a great weekend.--kelapstick (talk) 23:09, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Your last problem wasn't acted on because everyone had stopped reverting by the time admins got to the report, but I wanted to make sure that you understand that you did violate 3RR, and Pcdfan678 did not. It doesn't matter whether the reversions are related, whether you hit the "undo" button, the "rollback" button, or manually edit: if you take the article to an earlier state more than three times ("more than three" meaning "four or more") in a 24-hour period, you've violated 3RR, with exceptions only for vandalism reversion, BLP related reversions, and copyright/image use issues. You appear to be a good faith editor, and I would hate to see you blocked because you misunderstand the rule. You lucked out this time, but I wouldn't count on that happening twice.—Kww(talk) 21:40, 30 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks!

I also re-linked the album titles in the Discography section of the main Vitas article (even the albums which don't yet have their own article).

I know that at present the album articles are fairly short, but as I explained on the talk pages, I don't think including tracklistings in the Discography section of the main article would be the right approach, nor would deleting the information altogether. There is also other valuable information (e.g. songwriters on the album Mama) which might not conveniently fit into a list within another article; furthermore there is potential for further development of these articles. As it happens, writing new Vitas album articles and improving existing ones was already on my to-do list (yes, literally).

Please don't underestimate the importance of such articles on Wikipedia. In some cases it may be the only online source available for certain data (as I believe is the case regarding the songwriting credits on Mama, at least in English} and in many (perhaps nearly all) cases it is the only source which will freely give the reader the knowledge they seek without trying to sell anything to them. Wikipedia is a precious and unique resource.

If you think the Discography section in Vitas' article requires citations I will add some, though I don't think this is generally expected in discographies except in the case of new articles and/ or obscure releases. The discography on Vitas' website is already cited as a reference for the single Opera #2 (which was a special case because iTunes had mislabelled it as Opera #1, so a citation was requested for clarification). Vitas' website can provide references for all of the CDs and most of the DVDs and music videos, though in general finding reliable English language sources for information on Vitas can be problematic. I notice on your Userpage that you speak several languages including Russian, so if you'd like to contribute positively to the article, some research to provide additional references would be very welcome. I plan to make a few improvements to the main Vitas article over the weekend.

If I may offer some general advice, you could ease up a bit with the deletion proposals: Wikipedia isn't about to run out of space, honest! One of Wikipedia's great strengths is the breadth of subject matter covered. The way I see it, there are 3 main questions to ascertain an article's suitability for Wikipedia:

  • Is it factually accurate, or at least verifiable?
  • Does it comply with Wikipedia policies, or can it be edited so that it does?
  • Is there a significant chance that readers, even if only a handful, will come to Wikipedia in search of the information contained in the article?

Articles fulfilling those criteria should be welcomed.

Crumbs, I didn't mean to write an essay! Nice username btw. All the best,

Orphaned non-free image File:LoveGame Remix EP.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:LoveGame Remix EP.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. A tag has been placed on Alexander George (entertainer) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. ttonyb (talk) 05:24, 12 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, as a general rule local accounts cannot be deleted, they can just be renamed to something else. Anyway, in the case of PopMusicBuff, we can hardly do anything, as it is already a SUL account, so the name PopMusicBuff is automatically reserved for you on any Wikimedia project in any language. Howdy. May I ask why you didn't close this discussion and decided to relist it again? It has been almost a month since it was first listed. To me, this seems long enough to decide if it should be closed with keep, delete, or no consensus. WP:RELIST even says "...if consensus has not formed in three weeks of debate, there is by definition no consensus and the discussion should be closed accordingly." If you decide the discussion should still stay open, could you please add a reasoning for this to the TfD discussion?--Rockfang (talk) 01:37, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I just realized one possible reason you didn't close it: you aren't an admin. I would like to suggest that you refrain from relisting TfDs like this one in the future. I just wanted you to know i agree with your tagging efforts on the page. Frankly it could stand to be reduced. I just think given the pages history that a discussion on the page is warrented rather than a prod. If you wanted to propose a merge and re-direct i certaintly would support that (I think truly theres only about 3 things in there of significance currently) And a merge would allow someone to expand it later when they could do it properly. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. What's wrong with adding a Bibliography to Taboo's article?

edit

section restored I'm puzzled about your removal of my addition of a Bibliography section to Taboo's page, which you claimed was "per WP:N." I read the WP:N page (again--of course I'm aware of the issue of Notability) and it has a section titled "Notability guidelines do not limit content within an article" in which it states "The notability guidelines do not apply to article or list content." So if the WP:N guidelines do not apply to article content, how can that be your basis for removing a reference to an autobiography co-written by the subject of the article? The book is new, but I gave valid citation information about the book (publisher, ISBN, etc.). I plan on undoing your revision unless you can convince me that my edit isn't in keeping with WP guidelines. --DTinAZ (talk) 16:53, 17 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for putting it back. --DTinAZ (talk) 18:44, 17 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Regarding your recent edit to the article, would you please explain why you undid my edit? Another editor blanked nearly an entire section, without explanation, and my edit restored the blanked content. jhsounds (talk) 01:59, 19 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I was the same user, and it is per WP:WPMAG and WP:WORKS#Discographies. AGiorgio08 talk 04:00, 19 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Windows 8

edit

Hi, I removed your sentences in History of Microsoft Windows about cloud-based technologies in Windows 8, because they are not sourced. I found some sites speculating some of the stuff that you wrote, but nothing definitively saying this stuff. So I'm redoing my edit. Also, I couldn't find a reliable source saying Windows 8 would include IE10. - Josh (talk | contribs) 22:22, 10 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add unreferenced or poorly referenced information, especially if controversial, to articles or any other page on Wikipedia about living persons, as you did to Lady Gaga. Thank you. Bilby (talk) 01:33, 19 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

My apologies - I shouldn't have used a template, because you probably had good cause for adding the content. I'm too used to responding to vandalism on the page. However, I think you'll need a good source for that claim, and it might be better included in the body rather than a lead. I suspect you may also need to check on the discussion page - it is a strong claim, so there may be opposition. - Bilby (talk)

Orphaned non-free image File:Adobe CS Product Logos.png

  fixed

Thanks for uploading File:Adobe CS Product Logos.png.

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. What was the point of this edit? --Damiens.rf 14:49, 29 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Can you be a little more specific? AGiorgio08 (talk) 17:33, 29 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
More specific than that? Why did you remove comments on a talk page discussion? --Damiens.rf 17:39, 29 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

AGiorgio08 your edits have been reverted by User:Damiens.rf because you are removing other editors comments. I appreciate that you are trying to remove your own comment but note it is more common to strike out your comment rather than delete otherwise other editors comments may not make sense. So please if you want to withdrawn your comments then surround them with <si>...text...</si>, see WP:REDACT. Thanks. MilborneOne (talk) 17:48, 29 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
