Edit of Template:RFPP

Hey there, your edit of template:RFPP template seemed to stop it completing with the length of protection, so I've undone it. Not quite sure what you were aiming for exactly, but it didn't quite work. GedUK  13:10, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Your sig

Good morning! Please check your sig syntax. It appears to be creating the dreaded grey box (paragraph indent). Cheers, --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 04:33, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Στc. 04:35, 2 November 2011 (UTC) Random test signature.

Nothing's wrong with the signature; it's the way Twinkle subst's {{uw-hasty}}. I've made a note at WT:TW. →Στc. 04:43, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Ah, that might even be my fault because I think I originally rewrote that template to be less bitey. I'm not an expert with template syntax - if you know how to fix it , please just go ahead and do it. Thanks. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 05:23, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Very long tag in South America Life Quality Rankings

Hi, and thanks for your help.

As per recommended South America Life Quality Rankings article was splitted in 2 parts to easier is reading and to diminish its size to almost the half of the original.

Please check the changes in order to decide if the very long tag still be necesary.

Southamerica2010 (talk) 17:25, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Have you found the time to check this article and eliminate the "very long" tag. Thanks in advance.

Southamerica2010 (talk) 16:54, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

150.000 bytes is still too long to comfortably read the article, but I'm not willing to risk a browser-crash by viewing the article (my computer is from 2002). I suggest more splits. →Στc. 23:26, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks.

How many bytes is the "exact" limit to reach, to avoid the "very long" tag? Or is it just some personal preference?

For instance, "Brazil" article (part of South America) has more than 140,000 and "Argentina" more than 130,000.

And as a lawyer, you mentioned 150,00 bytes as "still too long", well, Italy has more than 152,000, Mexico has more than 158,000, USA has more than 174,000, Russia has more than 177,000 and France has more than 225,000, but none of these articles have some "very long" tag on them. Is it a special higher limit for certain countries or regions and a lower one for some others, some sort of discrimination in Wikipedia standards?

Thanks in advance for your offcial answer before asking admin.

Dusty the klepto kitty article

So was the issue with the Dusty the Klepto Kitty that he's a cat or that I didn't include a section specifically entitled "Cultural Relevance"? I tend to believe that things become relevant in and of themselves when someone decides to write about them, but I also understand that you guys don't want everyone to include an article about their pets. The lack of that specific phrase being a deletion criteria seems a bit arbitrary, but it's your house so I'll follow your rules.

Anywho, I've added the section specifically entitled "Cultural Relevance". I actually hit the "Submit" instead of "Preview" by accident so I submitted an incomplete article, which is probably why you thought it had no substance (it didn't...yet). I've since edited it.

Have a good night, I'm off to bed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Carschmn (talkcontribs) 03:03, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Hey Σ ,thanks for your message and indeed i do know a fair bit; such as the Cossacks and the battle of tannenberg etc, On the redirect what exactly are you making- is it an improvement to the Soviet Union article which you will move in due course? Good pun :) Yeah ill help you out over the weekend, when i can dedicate more time. Also feel free to let me know if you have any other history/political articles that you need help with. User:Goldblooded (Talk/Discuss)(Complain) 23:16, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your help, although the navigation panel itself looks a bit odd... its too small and it doesnt look right in comparison, is there anyway to expand it? 07:25, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

I'm not really experienced with the "back stage" parts of Wikipedia, so when you referred to Steve's "NAC list", I didn't know what that was. I've been searching for nearly 20 seconds and still can't figure it out. Could you clue me in? HuskyHuskie (talk) 20:56, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Kollam Beach

November 2011

Hello Σ. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know however, regarding Sk sungai balai, that tagging articles for speedy deletion moments after creation as lacking context (CSD A1), content (CSD A3) and articles created through the Article Wizard, is too fast. It's best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), pure vandalism (G3), and copyright violations (G12) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Thanks. Puffin Let's talk! 21:41, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

FWIW Puffin, having reviewed the deleted material, If I had been on patrol, I might have even deleted it summarily without even tagging it. WP:DTTR. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 04:52, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Greek clothing

While this article was no great shakes, did you mean to remove the only information it contained in this edit? --Metropolitan90 (talk) 03:37, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

The article's title shouldn't duplicate the articles about togas or chitons. Attempting to list all the clothing of Greece would make it an indiscriminate mass of information. →Στc. 04:09, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Blocking policy

I appreciate you kind offer to mentor - and I'm genuinely sure that with the experience you now have, you would be perfectly able to mentor any editor who understands what Wikipdia is and isn't. See my talk page.--Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 04:45, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

I do acknowledge that I doubt he will become a content editor, and plan to guide him in anti-vandalism. Wikipedia is always in need of vandalism fighters ever since The Thing retired... for instance, I'm sure The Thing wouldn't have let this gross BLP violation escape his 'q' key, but I digress...
If I cannot convert him into a vandal-fighter (although HG is pretty addicting, which is what I'm counting on), I'm not sure he will stay unblocked for a reasonable amount of time. →Στc. 07:29, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
It's a maturity issue, and he just cannot accept that Wikipedia is not FaceBook. He'll grow out of it, but not for a while, and the last thing we want him to get his hands on is Huggle. If he's unblocked it will turn into a saga like this, and this. If you want to be a mentor, there are plenty of youngsters who are keen, willing to learn, don't abuse the core philosophies, but just get things wrong. Talk to Worm about it. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 09:21, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
BTW: On a different note, feel free to raid my User:Kudpung/Dashboard. I do most of my editing manually (except for Twinkle and some stuff I have in CopyPastePro), and you might just find some useful stuff in there. I keep the page open alongside my work. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 09:29, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
Will do, and thanks. →Στc. 02:24, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi Sigma. Thanks for coming to me regarding this situation - I've got a fair amount of experience with this sort of user specifically. I have to warn you that you will be in for the long haul here, chances are you will have to repeat the same thing many times over in different ways and you will need to be keeping a close eye on his work. On the other hand I do agree that it's possible that mentorship will be effective and I was wondering what sort of methods you were thinking of adopting? If you'd like any advice methods you were planning to use or even if you'd like me to be a backup mentor, let me know. Finally, if you're sure about this and are willing to take the consequences I'm willing to unblock with a few provisos (mostly around where he's working) and a couple of recommendations (about how he's working). WormTT · (talk) 11:16, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Just spotted this. Can I suggest that you consider using any from User:Worm That Turned/Adopt/Lessons - especially copyright which I've found that users find complicated and have re-written and perhaps dispute resolution. I think that a course would be helpful in this situation and am glad to see you're going down that route. WormTT · (talk) 11:21, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
I most certainly cannot do this alone. Your help is appreciated, and I have lately been pondering whether to do this or not, my answer being yes. →Στc. 00:53, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
I will not support unblocking until he addressed the reasons for his block and many declined unblock requests, and his latest bursts of uncivilty and refactoring of my comments to look like incivility by me are further breaches of policy. I would support mentorship on the clear understanding that this is carried out only on pages he legally has access to while blocked, and if he can clearly demonstrate that he can converse in an adult manner free of invectives. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 07:21, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Hm, I hadn't thought of that. Mentoring him on his talk page makes sense, or maybe I could transclude it to some locations to centralise discussion.
But anyway, I think it's all WP:ROPE for him now. Unblocking won't do any harm, as we can reblock if the need ever arises. →Στc. 07:49, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Harvard, country study

How do I harv-cite a PD source if I'm using {{country study}}

That template doesn't support harvard directly, so you have to wrap a 'span' around it, ie,

<span class="citation" id="CITEREFSmith2011">{{Country study|country= Comoros|abbr=km|author=Vincent Ercolano|section=Transportation and Telecommunications|date=1994|editor=Helen Chapin Metz}}</span>

...where "Smith" and "2011" correspond exactly to what you put in the harvard-thing, e.g. <ref>{{harvnb|Smith|2011}}</ref>
I made an example, here, to try it - and it works fine; [2]  Chzz  ►  07:12, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Blocked

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for incurring the wrath of the puppetmaster. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

I will find you and wear your skin. m.o.p 07:35, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

I'd rather you didn't do that, actually, because at a glance it implies blocking, and after a look at the block log and back here again, Σ hasn't been blocked. It is unhelpful to use a proper block template because it just makes people think that you have actually been blocked, when you haven't. So don't, please.
