WP:RFTAP

Currently Wikipedia:Tool apprenticeship is being proposed as a three-month process trial. If and when it begins, this page will be used to issue and discuss requests for tools, according to the instructions below.

Creating a request edit

Make sure before requesting a tool that you satisfy the requirements as outlined at Wikipedia:Tool apprenticeship. To add a request to this page:

Replace YourUsername in the box below with your user name (leave the current date in brackets there).
Click the button below. If this is not your first request, link to subpages for your prior requests.
It will open a new page with preloaded text, where you need to fill in all information appropriately.

Discussing requests edit

Any user can participate in discussions of requests. Opinions should each be preceded by Support, Oppose, Neutral, or Comment. Discussants should examine the claims and contribution history of the requester and determine whether they meet the criteria as outlined at Wikipedia:Tool apprenticeship, and whether they can be trusted with a one-week trial of the requested tool, subject to probation. Factors to consider include performance in the area in which the tool will be used, performance in prior tool trials, and active disputes that might compromise judgement.

Another more flexible option is Conditional support, where a discussant may lend their support provided the candidate agrees to their suggested terms. Candidates can accept or reject these.

Supporting opinions by sock puppets are grounds for rejection.

Closing requests edit

Requests will typically remain open for at least 7 days, but may be closed early if the outcome is clear. Successful requests must be closed by a bureaucrat, who will grant the tool for a period of one week. Unsuccessful requests may be closed by any experienced user in good standing. Closures are based on consensus.

To close a request, edit its subpage and add {{Rfta top}} at the top and {{Rfta bottom}} at the bottom. Underneath {{Rfta top}} but before the section header, add the result (Granted or Not granted), the date of expiration of the user's trial if granted, and a short explanation. The closer is also free to give advice or recommendations. See Wikipedia:Requests for tool apprenticeship/User:Example Apprentice (November 2011) for an example.

Requesting tools: delete

Task tool(s) will be used for: Speedy deletion of new pages

Description of your experience in the area in which you plan to use the tool: I have been working for 4 months in new page patrol tagging new pages for speedy deletion. I have a complete understanding of the WP:CSD policy and almost all of my tagged articles were later deleted. A few, like Example article, were A7s that were later expanded with assertions of significance.
