User:TagaSanPedroAko/Philippine road article guidelines

With problems on structure and content of Philippine road articles floated to the Tambayan Philippines, guidelines, to be used also by the planned Roads task force, are laid out to ensure good quality of Philippine road articles. This is based on the Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Standards, but with a few refinements or differences.

Names edit

Articles edit

Numbered expressway routes should be named E[route number] highway (Philippines), and numbered national roads should be named N[route number] highway (Philippines). This should apply to numbered routes that span multiple named roads.

This naming scheme does not apply to routes with a named road completely following the numbered route, and a redirect must be used to the named road. For example, N68 highway (Philippines) must be redirected to Andaya Highway

Names in prose edit

Names of numbered highways when used in the article body should be simply the route number used on official signage. For national roads, the lead sentence must be like this. "The N1, signed as 1, is ....." .Numbered expressway routes must be referred with the number plus the E prefix.

For named roads that form one part of a numbered route, the sentence "It is designated as part of [route number] of the Philippine highway network" must be added after the first paragraph of the lead. A different case applies for for named roads that constitute one complete numbered route, where the route number (in boldface) must be added after the names and alternate names/nicknames of the named route.

Redirects edit

Redirects must be used for numbered routes that constitute one whole named route, for example, N172 which is wholly named Timog Avenue. A redirect to the named route must be created for the numbered route. Redirects should be replaced by a standalone article with a mention of the named road in the route description, when the numbered route is soon assigned to more than one named roads, like an expressways route that once composed only one named expressway, are extended to included a new named expressway.

Article layout edit

This page discusses the standard sections of a road article. Some sections can be omitted, but most are standard and must be added mandatorily, like the lead.

Lead edit

Every article should have a lead, that summarizes the main points of the article. Wikipedia guidelines still apply on the lead. The lead may be simple or detailed, depending on the article content. Citations are not required on the lead, but may be added in some occasions. The official route name, and common names, should be boldface. For named roads, the name, alternate names, and the route number assigned wholly or partially on the route are boldfaced.

Infobox edit

An infobox must be included in all road articles. {{infobox road}} should be used at most cases. {{Infobox road small}} are better used for diversion or spur routes of any route, usually unnumbered, or sometimes numbered.

For named junctions, use {{infobox road junction}}.

Maps edit

Articles should have a map of the route of the road. It should be a SVG map, and show the provinces, highly urbanized cities/independent component cities, and regions where the road runs. PNG or JPEG maps should be replaced if possible

Major intersections/exits edit

The infobox summarizes the key information of the article. The infobox should be not too long. At least 15 junctions can be listed, and must be of high importance. Use the {{plainlist}} template for the list, and use the {{Jct}} template for rendering of highway shields and links to the highway articles. Jct should not be used for junctions with unnumbered roads (like tertiary national roads, or a major city road)

By default, include the city/municipality, and province, on the junction location after the shields and articles of the numbered routes.

If two major junction occurs in one location, add the barangay (or city district name, or "Poblacion" for poblacion areas composed of small barangays) before the city/municipality name, see example below

The province should be omitted if the city is a highly urbanized city or independent component city, the road is within one province, or the city has the same name as the province (e.g. Cebu City, Davao City, Iloilo City, Batangas City, Surigao City)

The city or municipality, including highly urbanized cities or independent component cities, should not be used for routes if it is within their boundary, and use the barangays or named city districts instead as location of intersections. Landmarks or named interchanges may be used to supplement the location.

Component highways edit

This should be used with named highways that follow route numbers, including those that constitute the whole route (e.g. Andaya Highway, or N68; Domestic Road, or N193). Use the {{Jct}} template to render the shields and add the links to the numbered routes. Like the major intersection list, use the {{plainlist}} template for lists of route numbers. The old Circumferential and Radial Road numbers, though some remain in use as road names (e.g. C-5 Road, C-6 Road, C-2 Road, C-3 Road, [Radial] Road 10), however, should be replaced with the new route numbers at most cases.

Cities and municipalities edit

A list of cities and municipalities can be provided on the infobox, except for the articles for N1 and the Pan-Philippine Highway (AH26), where provinces should be listed. Use the {{hlist}} to create a list of cities and municipalities served.

Route description edit

Articles should have a prose description of the route. The description will usually be based on the road direction from Kilometer Zero, which will usually be in Rizal Park for Luzon, Samar, Leyte, and Mindanao, but on other islands, it will be different, for example, Cebu has its Kilometer Zero in front of the Cebu Provincial Capitol in Cebu City.

History/Future edit

If applicable, a history section can be included to describe past and present affairs on the road.

The future section should be verifiable, based on reliable sources, and not speculation, per WP:NOTCRYSTAL.

Other sections edit

Other sections, like sections for notable landmarks, are tolerable, but this is preferable to be merged to the route description, if possible.

Intersection or Exit list edit

Each road should have a list of junctions. List of exits or intersection must follow MOS:RJL. The {{PHLinttop}} and {{PHLint}} are developed to produce a MOS-compliant table, and any table that still do not comply should be transitioned. For expressways, the list should include all exits, toll plazas, and service areas, with the exception of Manila-Cavite Expressway, which has one traffic light intersection. For national roads, it should include intersections/interchanges with expressways and other national roads, and other important intersections with roads not designated as a national road.

A MOS:RJL-compliant table would look like this:
