New York City FC are an American professional soccer team, based in the Queens borough of New York City, which competes in Major League Soccer (MLS). New York City FC were unveiled as the twentieth team of MLS by Don Garber on May 25, 2013 at a friendly match between Premier League clubs Manchester City and Chelsea. The expansion was purchased by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, owner of Manchester City, for $100m[citation needed] and is to operate in partnership with the Manchester-based team. After Chivas USA they are the second MLS team to be created as a sister club to a foreign soccer team, and the first to have such a partnership with a European team.

The club are due to build their stadium in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park which hosted the 1939 and 1964 World's Fairs, over the site of the Industry Pond.

The club are intended to be ready to play their first competitive game by the 2016 season.
