- Well, User:Danny lost; I am frankly not too sure, one way or the other. I have been trying to "walk" in Guérin's foot-steps, see User:Huldra/Guerin; some of the places he mentioned were only noted from a distance. What I miss is his actual travel-route, like we e.g. have for Edward Robinson; (both for his 1838 and 1852 travels.) Cheers, Huldra (talk) 22:27, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
- User:Huldra. To be honest, I don't see the essential difference between their works. Both Give place names, descriptions, and geographical features, time points, and directions en route. Indeed, Robinson adds compass bearings, but they can only be useful if you are drawing your own maps. And BTW, the other day I spotted an error in Robinson, where he gave the one wadi he walked, the contemporary name of another (not an identification to a biblical record). So, however arduous, he can be misleading. Can't the mandate-period maps settle the bulk of your questions? trespassers william (talk) 14:48, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
- Well, I usually use the SWP maps to "walk" in their footsteps; those maps have a lot of Khirbas noted which are often missing from later maps. And both Robinson and Guerin made mistakes; one village in the nothern West Bank they both called "abandoned"; alas the villagers claim the village was never abandoned in the 19th century, and indeed neither Robinson nor Guerin had visited the village, only relaying on hearsay (and probably mixing it up with a nearby ruin). Which is why knowing the exact travel-initiary is so important, IMO, Huldra (talk) 21:31, 24 April 2022 (UTC)

I found that two files with materials from Guérin is available at the Archives Nationales (France). It seems that his missions were conducted in some sense under the Ministère de l’Instruction publique:
