Verónica Boquete → Veronica Boquete – Reliable sources such as her professional league, FIFA, and local media all spell her name without the accent. We should match. • Oppose. WIkipedia does not encourage nor discourage diacritics. In this case, the subject is a Spanish national without great prominence outside of her own country until very recently, it seems.   • That's just not true. First of all, the four (out of five) that do use the diacritics are Spanish. We do not use Spanish-language sources to determine the English-language title of our articles.               • I believe you are misinterpreting our house style. WP:AT, which is policy, states: "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources."                 • Our de facto policy on this matter can be seen on Category:Spanish people (WP:NOTBURO, also a policy), and it is in line with other general-purpose encyclopedias. The idea that BLP titles should be decided through case-by-case Google popularity contests is a minority view in the community and completely nonexistent in serious publications. • Authoritative English sources, as I see it, very rarely exist for even highly well-known active athletes. Enter style guides and the practices of other encyclopedias.     • Yes, and that (in the sense you mean here) is not what we generally do, so you end up with a few articles that deviate from the standard for no particular reason except that the anti-diacritics brigade have had their teeth into them, thus leading to pointless random variation that has the potential to mislead readers.--Kotniski (talk) 13:17, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
