It has officially been called this on DVD releases and such—as opposed to the prequel and sequel trilogies which have not really been branded together with any specific name. UpdateNerd (talk) 14:10, 9 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
The original trilogy's distinction is comparable to that of the 'Star Trek' scenario, where the original show is now referred to as 'The Original Series' to distinguish it from the broader works in the franchise.Internet Informant (talk) 09:19, 28 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: Moved. The main argument of the opposers was "Lucasfilm/Disney didn't officially use it, using 'Star Wars Trilogy' instead". Meanwhile, supporters identified critical WP:PRECISE problems with the term "Star Wars Trilogy", namely that it is insufficiently precise enough to identify this specific trilogy out of the franchise's multiple trilogies. It was pointed out that the sources also agree that "Star Wars Trilogy" is too imprecise, given that they consistently disambiguate with the term "original trilogy". Since the discussion failed to establish that "Star Wars Trilogy" is sufficiently precise, and precision is a weighed as a key title criterion at WP:AT while whether the term was officially used is not, the more precise proposed title seems to be a better idea. It was also suggested to make Star Wars Trilogy into a disambiguation page. (non-admin closure) — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 20:52, 11 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Oppose as that's a colloquialism. When the original trilogy was released, it was the only one, and marketed as the Star Wars Trilogy. Thus it's historically the more common term. UpdateNerd (talk) 12:10, 3 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Oppose - the name "original trilogy" was used for one of the video games, but other than that, I haven't seen anywhere where Disney themselves have called this the "original trilogy". I've mostly seen the term "original trilogy" mainly used within the fandom, but even the official website for Star Wars does not use the terms "original trilogy", "prequel trilogy", and so forth. Star Wars prequel trilogy and Star Wars sequel trilogy use the names they use, I'm guessing because that's the easiest way to distinguish them within Wikipedia, but as for this particular article, I actually seen a commercial (back from when I was a kid) that referred to this specific trilogy as the "Star Wars trilogy" and the term "original trilogy" only came to use after the Episodes 1-3 came out. It's not entirely clear what this page should actually be called that would be going by its official name, but since Disney themselves (as far as I can tell) have not used the term "original trilogy" and Lucasfilm themselves (prior to the Disney takeover) used both "original trilogy" and "Star Wars Trilogy" interchangeably, the fallback is to keep this page whatever name it is/was as of this proposal. Like Anakin Skywalker, anyone searching Star Wars original trilogy will already be redirected to this page and thus, changing the name of this page for the sake of changing the name will just make things more (not less) complicated.—Mythdon (talk • contribs) 14:41, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Support move away from "Star Wars Trilogy" because that is ambiguous and needs further disambiguation, especially since we have the prequel trilogy and the sequel trilogy. While it is likely that a Star Wars fan knows that just "Star Wars Trilogy" likely refers to the original trilogy, I don't think that's as obvious to the layperson readership. I see that Marvel has a book here that uses "original trilogy". Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me)16:12, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Support. First of all, "Star Wars trilogy" most often appears with lowercase "trilogy", when referring to this trilogy or any of the trilogies. In this regard I agree with the current body of the article and not the current title. I support because Star Wars trilogy is not WP:PRECISE enough. This is also reflected in sources, which tend to add some other description either before "trilogy" or before "Star Wars trilogy" ("original"/"classic", "prequel", "sequel"/"most recent"). It's true that people didn't call it the original trilogy before there was any other trilogy, but of course they didn't. Precision, common name, etc. should be based on modern usage and reader expectations. Adumbrativus (talk) 23:42, 9 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
It would be helpful if those supporting the move could indicate what they think should happen to the basename. Should it remain as a redirect to this article? Be turned into a disambiguation page? Be left as a red link? Colin M (talk) 17:00, 10 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Support as ambiguous with the prequel trilogy and sequel trilogy. I would support "Star Wars Trilogy" to be converted into a dab page. Natg 19 (talk) 17:40, 11 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
