Skyhooks vs AC/DC?
editi believe mac/dc and the skyhooks were rival bands for awhile -ishmaelblues
They were very different bands, from different cities. In the same way as there was a stones-beatles rivalry (true only in the media), there might have been something similar. But not that I remember. AC-DC carried a bit of history from the Easybeats, and Skyhooks were a little more like Split Enz, kind of nutty University intellectuals having a good time.Trishm 02:21, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- According to Jeff Jenkins (refs in article) AC/DC flirted with glam rock but heard about Melbourne-based Skyhooks and Sydney's Hush and so dropped the idea. I remember seeing Bon Scott as a schoolgirl on an old Countdown episode which was re-broadcast on Rage. In 1975, the Hooks dominated the albums charts with both Living in the 70's and Ego Is Not a Dirty Word at #1 for a combined 27 weeks (see 1975 Australian #1 albums). While AC/DC's debut album, High Voltage, peaked at #7. At the ANZAC Day (April 25) concert that year AC/DC were the support act to Skyhooks and were not well received by the parochial Melbourne crowd—Scott responded by baring his backside! (According to Jenkins in Ego Is Not a Dirty Word). In his letters to his wife, Irene, Scott revealed his dislike of Skyhooks (Jenkins in Molly Meldrum Presents 50 Years of Rock in Australia).
- As for media inspired rivalries, more was made of Skyhooks vs Sherbet, which was also fought along Melbourne vs Sydney lines. In reality the bands got along relatively well with band managers Michael Gudinski and Roger Davies being friends. (According to Jenkins). Years later, in 2001, Daryl Braithwaite (lead singer of Sherbet) sang with remaining Hooks as a tribute to Graeme Strachan who had just died in a helicopter accident.shaidar cuebiyar ( talk | contribs ) 09:55, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
Copyvio
editI skimmed the article and removed two copyvio paragraphs that were copied and pasted from http://www.whiteroom.com.au/howlspace/en/skyhooks/skyhooks.htm - there may be more such material, please delete on sight if detected. Tempshill (talk) 02:53, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Proposed major edits
editAs an ARIA Hall of Fame inductee Skyhooks deserve a B-class (or better) article. I intend to make a number of edits towards that purpose, interims edits may appear unfinished or disorganised: I expect the entire process will take about a week.shaidar cuebiyar ( talk | contribs ) 01:56, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
- I've done my major edits. More copy-editing is recommended, further ideas include an Awards section and wikifying the discography albums sub-sections (possibly creating a separate Skyhooks discography article). However I'm moving on & leave such matters to other editors.shaidar cuebiyar ( talk | contribs ) 09:55, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
- Top work. Looks heaps better. Doctorhawkes (talk) 22:36, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Two Mt Archers
editThere are two Mount Archers in Queensland, one near Kilcoy (where Shirley died but has no Wikipedia article) and one near Rockhampton (which has a Wikipedia article but isn't where he died). I'm writing this in the hope that nobody will try to link the death location to the near-Rockhampton Mount Archer article again. Kerry (talk) 10:37, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Genre
editIs anyone interested in discussing genre? Rock yes, pop/rock and glam rock yes, hard rock - I don't think so (except for Women in Uniform).

- I agree. I think you'd struggle to get refs for hard rock. Doctorhawkes (talk) 08:00, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
