Overall, this is a solid article. I found some writing issues, but I went and fixed them. I have a couple other issues though:

  • "He was a second-team 2009 NCAA Men's Basketball All-Americans by.." Tweak, as it now says he was an all-americans.
  • Refs #5 and 6 I can't access at all; not sure what happened with those but the URLs look odd.

Just those couple things: I'll put this on hold and pass it when they're fixed. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 04:58, 7 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I forgot about this GA review contest. I think all my reviews may get bunched up. This one is second in line after I try to attend to the 2010 East-West Shrine Game. I apologize, but I don't have as many hours a day as I use to for WP.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 06:06, 7 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Not a problem. I went and fixed the first issue myself, and moved the links in question on the second point here: [1][2]. They can be fixed later since that's not really a GA issue. The East-West game will need more concentration anyway, so no need to worry about this one. Since I went and fixed the issues myself I'll pass this as a GA. Those refs are O.K. without the links. So we can just go with them as they are. Sorry about putting this one on the back burner. Thanks for doing the driving.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 16:09, 7 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

The text you removed was not a copyright violation.
Original reads: "For Collins, life in the city's most grim neighborhoods was a fishbowl of gang wars, with a father in prison and gunshots taking the life of his best friend at 16."
Article reads: "His upbringing in Chicago was difficult, with a father in and out of jail and gang life all around him. He lost his best friend to gunfire at the age of 16"
Text restored.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 04:20, 3 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I removed the copyright violation again. Look at this source. It contains identical wording for the sentence I removed. I apologize for not listing the particular source in the first place. The contributor of that particular sentence has a history of copying/pasting extensively. VernoWhitney (talk) 15:16, 4 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
The proper thing to do is to reword and WP:PRESERVE. Deleting is wrong. I will reword and readd.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 01:22, 6 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Not to get too snippy, but per WP:PRESERVE: "Libel, nonsense and vandalism should be completely removed, as should material that constitutes a copyright violation" (emphasis added). Beyond that, I've been digging copyvio out of a couple hundred articles by this one editor, so I'm glad you're rewording it and preserving the information, but I'm afraid I'm not going to take the time to do that for every single copyright violation I see. Cheers! VernoWhitney (talk) 01:46, 6 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
