Name edit

I'm thinking Portland Union Station would be better title here. It's widely used in sources,[1][2][3][4][5] and it already redirects here, so it can serve as natural disambiguation. There is a former Union Station (Portland, Maine), but the still-in-use Oregon station is the clear primary topic ([6] vs. [7]). Barring objections I'll make the move.--Cúchullain t/c 16:22, 28 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

I disagree. That's not a strong enough case for a change that big. "Portland" is not part of the name, and virtually all references to the subject by Portland sources would omit it. (I point out the one of the sources cited above actually refers to "Portland's Union Station", not "Portland Union Station", in the text; headlines don't count, as they serve a specific purpose.) Although you found some sources referring to "Portland Union Station", I think you'd find a lot more that did not put Portland before the name (especially in prose text), and keeping "FUTON bias" in mind. The fact that it's well established in sources makes it suitable natural disambiguation, which is preferable to a parentheses. As the policy says, it's "an alternative name that the subject is also commonly called in English reliable sources, albeit not as commonly as the preferred-but-ambiguous title". The same is done for many other Union Stations, including Chicago Union Station, Texarkana Union Station, Tampa Union Station, Indianapolis Union Station, etc.--Cúchullain t/c 21:13, 28 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Union Station (Portland, Oregon)Portland Union Station – While the station is more commonly known as just "Union Station", Portland Union Station is also well established and well used.[8][9][10][11][12] As such, it qualifies as natural disambiguation, which is preferable to a parentheses, as "an alternative name that the subject is also commonly called in English reliable sources, albeit not as commonly as the preferred-but-ambiguous title". Portland Union Station is already a redirect; while there was formerly a Union Station in Portland, Maine, the Oregon station is far and away the primary topic in a WP:TWODABS situation: It received almost 10x the page views in the last 90 days (2178 in 90 days compared to 275) and also predominates on Google Books. City names are used in other Union Station articles when they're used in sources, cf Chicago Union Station, Texarkana Union Station, Tampa Union Station, Indianapolis Union Station, and others. I would just like to point out that "Portland Union Station" is used on the historical plaque at the front entrance. Jason McHuff (talk) 06:41, 21 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Iron Horse Lounge edit

Can anyone provide details of the former Iron Horse Restaurant & Lounge, once located in the southeastern end of the station building? (Now occupied by Wilf's Restaurant & Bar.) It existed with that name until at least the 1960's. It's shown in the 1957 film Portland Expose (about labor unions versus a crime syndicate.) There's a 1957 photo at: http://librarycatalog.ohs.org/O90000/OPAC/Details/Record.aspx?IndexCode=-1&TaskCode=1504236&CollectionCode=2&BibCode=MO90000%7C4269795%7C1%7C15320944 BMJ-pdx (talk) 00:40, 31 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
