WikiProject Catholicism edit

When I started this article I added the WP Catholicism template. However, an IP editor change it to the WP Christianity template with support from the WP Catholicism. I reverted the template to the WP Catholicism template and the IP editor change it back to the WP Christianity template. The WP Christianity template is not needed and the WP Catholicism is adequate. I am not sure why the IP editor made the change. However, I am showing good faith by not reverting the IP editor's change. An explanation is necessary why the change was made in the first place. We do typically just put the Catholicism template on Catholic-related articles. At the same time, so long as the Christianity banner includes the Catholicism parameter, it'll be marked as a Catholicism article as well. TonyBallioni (talk) 14:35, 13 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
As I see it, WikiProject banners serve two purposes: (1) to assess the quality and importance of articles within their scope and to compile that data and (2) to 'advertise', if you will, the WikiProject. The omission of the banner for WikiProject Christianity prevents either purpose from being served with respect to that project. Most notably, it excludes the article from Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity's statistics despite it indisputably being within the project's scope.
This is exactly why {{WikiProject Christianity}} has parameters for child projects. It ensures that articles can be tagged as being part of both WikiProject Christianity and Wikipedia:WikiProject Catholicism without the need for two banners. This is not new, either – this has been the case for just shy of 10 years. I appreciate, TonyBallioni, that people frequently tag for WikiProject Catholicism without also tagging for WikiProject Christianity, but that is a statement of what is done rather than what ought to be done.
@RFD: On what basis is tagging for WikiProject Catholicism inappropriate here? If the argument is that the WikiProject Christianity banner is inherently redundant to that of WikiProject Catholicism, that is a discussion to be had at Template talk:WikiProject Christianity or WT:X, not here, as the making of such a decision would make the WikiProject Catholicism parameter of {{WikiProject Christianity}} redundant and it would have WikiProject-wide implications. And with respect to your request that "an explanation [as to] why the change was made in the first place" be provided, the change was made for the two reasons stated above. Is there another possible rationale for adding a WikiProject banner of which I am unaware? 142.160.131.202 (talk) 00:57, 15 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
Greetings User talk:142.160.131.202 - The main advantage of a separate WP Catholicism line is to allow easy addition of the assessment criteria. I added the criteria to illustrate. Regards, JoeHebda • (talk) 16:22, 15 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
