Duplication edit

The three articles Battle of Zonchio, Kemal Reis, and Ottoman-Venetian Wars (1499-1503) share a lot of text verbatim. This isn't good -- the three articles should cover the battle, the general, and the wars in general, with minimal overlap and appropriate cross-references. --Macrakis 19:39, 16 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Göke edit

This depiction of the ship, while claimed to be contemporary, is in fact quite anachronistic. It may be perhaps a late XVI century galeass / maunè. The Turks _did_ have such ships, but that was after Lepanto (1571), not some 75 years prior to that battle (1495 as stated in the description of the image). It would be interesting if someone could read the original Turkish inscription on the image or find its original source. While the ship depicted is clearly not contemporary with Kemal-Reis, it may be a great contemporary depiction of a Turkish galeass / maunè of the XVI - early XVII century. That would be also extremely interesting if the inscription actually states that Kemal-Reis did have a maunè as his flagship - in this case that would mean just a very large XV century galley (maybe a trade galley), not the galeass shown on the picture, but still quite a valuable piece of info on the ottoman fleet.
