Per What a Midwestern Presidential Candidate Learned From Marxist Intellectuals, "he was hardly a campus revolutionary"... "his politics weren't easy for his graduate students to read"... "I don't think he ever really shared his politics, certainly not with us"... "He was progressive, he's not a communist"... "he was about as far from an ideologue as I can imagine."
