"Who is openly gay" edit

The comment about his sexuality is relevant for sure, but it was mentioned in a strange place. I moved it.--Wormsie 19:45, 12 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Whatever it was, it's not there any more, so we have him in LGBT categories without any evidence to support them. That's a no-no. -- JackofOz (talk) 08:48, 24 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Willing to do some of this myself, but a thought. edit

Something about his teachers, performing style, general reception including and not limited to (but definitely including) critics (in the negative sense) would be good rather than just Wikifying what has the appearance of a press release... Copyright violation and cleanup edit

Most of the article seems to be from http://www.deccaclassics.com/artists/thibaudet/biog.asp (read the last paragraph).--Wormsie 12:56, 14 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Somebody edited the article a lot, added lots of useful information and decided that it wasn't useful to information to list him as openly gay. However, the article cna be now considered "original", I feel, so I say it's safe to remove the notice.--Wormsie 21:01, 1 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Old version edit

Here's the old version with all its links and ads. I edited it a little and removed the worst of it.

Jean-Yves Thibaudet (b. 7 September 1961) is a notable French pianist. He was born in Lyon, France, began studying the piano at the age of five, and made his first public appearance at age seven. From the age of twelve, Thibaudet entered the Paris Conservatory where he studied with Aldo Ciccolini and Lucette Descaves, a friend and collaborator of Ravel. Three years later he won the premier Prix du Conservatoire, and at the age of 18 he won the Young Concert Artists Auditions in New York.

He has performed at such venues as Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. He has appeared with the San Francisco Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Orchestre National de France, Cincinnati Symphony, Colorado Symphony, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Bilbao Symphony, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Cannes-Provence, Galicia Symphony, Orchestre National de Lyon, and National Symphony Orchestra, and he has performed solo recitals around the world--from San Francisco to Beijing to Pamplona, Spain.

Among his collaborators in performances and recordings are soprano Renée Fleming, mezzo-sopranos Cecilia Bartoli and Angelika Kirchschlager, violist Yuri Bashmet and the Rossetti String Quartet.

Thibaudet has made over 30 recordings for Decca; his diverse repertoire includes works by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Claude Debussy, Franz Liszt, Olivier Messiaen, Frédéric Chopin, Dmitri Shostakovich, George Gershwin, Johannes Brahms, Robert Schumann, Vincent d'Indy, Hugo Wolf and also for Maurice Ravel, for which his recording of the complete piano works receiveded a Grammy nomination.

Among his numerous recording awards, Thibaudet counts the Echo and Schallplatten Preis Awards, the Diapason d' Or, Gramophone Award and Edison Prize.

He has made successful forays into the world of jazz as well, including Reflections on Duke: Jean-Yves Thibaudet plays the music of Duke Ellington and Conversations with Bill Evans.

His playing can be heard on the movie soundtracks of Portrait of a Lady, Bride of the Wind and Pride & Prejudice.

Thibaudet is openly gay.[1]

The fashion world has taken notice of Thibaudet as well. The celebrated London fashion designer Vivienne Westwood designs his concert attire.

In 2001, the Republic of France awarded Thibaudet the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

In 2002, he was awarded the Premio Pegasus from the Spoleto Festival for his artistic achievements and his longstanding involvement with the festival.

His birth year edit

He was not born in 1971 as the article says. He was born in 1961. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.203.136.135 (talk) 19:48, 13 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I would agree. I met him 2 days ago. He is not 38. 24.197.205.194 (talk) 05:02, 25 October 2009 (UTC)Peter T.Reply

I saw him perform, and he's definitely not 50. All things aside, we need a source. Otherwise, we'll stick with 38 :). Airplaneman talk 06:07, 15 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

If he was born in 1971, he could not win the Young Concert Artists Auditions in New York at the age of 18. He won it in 1981! That would mean he was born in 1963. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.192.73.145 (talk) 05:12, 24 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Some mischievous editor from IP 72.245.155.178 keeps changing Thibaudet's birth year from 1961 to 1971. Could they please stop this as this is patently incorrect. Alfietucker (talk) 12:49, 24 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've been reviewing the geolocation for the edits that change the subject's birth year to 1971, and they seem to come from cities where the pianist is appearing on tour. I wonder if he could be altering his own birth date? In any case, the cited source clearly states "Jean-Yves was born in 1961 in the French city of Lyon...". Info Box edit

Hi! I added a little musician box and a photo to the page. Please let me know, if I did anything wrong. DeCombray (talk) 16:44, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Mostly looks good. I corrected the date of birth.MisterCSharp (talk) 18:26, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
